  1. Good morning! Technical - and perhaps stupid - question: how do I seal an eyedropper to prevent ink leakage from the point where the section screws into the barrel without using silicone grease? I've started using paraffin wax: once warmed with the fingers, it can be spread very homogeneously and seems to work well. However: - Am I doing potential damage? I.e., is paraffin wax able to corrode or damage ebonite, or is it safe? - Would it be better to use natural wax? I read somewhere that it contains potentially harmful acid substances?
  2. Hi all, About a month ago, I placed an order for 4 bottles of this silicone grease (http://www.dx.com/p/nextorch-silicone-grease-for-flashlight-maintenance-47418#.VHsZqdKUd3o) which arrived today. I discovered to my discomfiture today, though, that there are many varieties of silicone grease, depending on the application, and am left wondering if I've bought something that's unsuitable for application on eyedropper FPs. Could someone check the link and the specs of the grease and advise me if it's okay to use it? If not, a link to any other type of silicone grease would be appreciated. Since I haven't yet been able to find SG in the UAE, I guess I'll have to rely on this site for my purchase. Thanks in advance
  3. Hi, A quick question and appreciate your help. I have couple vintage eyedroppers and will be using silicon grease to make sure that they won't leak. But, I could not find any guide on how frequently I should use grease? Shall I put grease everytime I open the barrel or maybe once a year? Thx
  4. Hello, I have a beautiful Aurora International 98. I used to refill it using an used Aurora cartridge. It works, but I'm not sure I would offer a gift with a syringe, or even sell it. By some serendipity, my local fountain pen shop had an Aurora converter that is supposed to work for this model. I tried it, and it seemed to work. But as soon as I tried to fill the pen up, it became obvious that the converter was a bit looser than with the cartridge. In fact, the section fell into the ink pot. On the second try, I could make it suck ink. It worked for a while, but it became obvious that the ink was leaking from where the converter made contact with the nipple. So I flushed the pen and the converter, disassembling the converter to make sure it was OK. So here is my question: would it be possible to put a bit of silicon grease to "seal" the converter around the nipple? I know that 13$ is not a big deal, but my first motivation to dive into the universe of fountain pens was to stop wasting plastic and start taking care of my stuff. I am willing to try about any solution, as long as someone, somewhere, is willing to help me out by sharing his or her experience. Sorry if my question has already been answered before, but I did try to scratch my own itch, but could not find anything after an hour of search and reading previous thread. Thanks, w

    Ahab Outer O-Ring

My brand-new Ahab did what I have been reading about: the outer O-ring either came broken or broke as soon as I screwed the top back on the pen. I replace it with a ¼ inch ring (3/8x1/4x1/16) which fit in place, but was too thick for the top to screw back on the body. In looking at the pen, it seems to me that this outer O-ring, the one that goes around the top of the wider section of body threads, is really unnecessary unless you use this pen as an eyedropper. I'm going to use the piston fill, so I wonder: do I really need that o-ring at all? If I do, does anyone know what size I need? Even the supplier seems to carry only the ring for inside the piston, and does not know the size of the outer ring. Calling the number on the Noodler's web site always gets an answering machine. While we are on the topic, is there a significant difference between 90% and 100% silicon grease? Thanks so much for your help. Ben
