  1. Hi all, I'm looking to you experts to help me determine what I bought at the local flea market last weekend. I really can't tell for certain, but it writes quite nicely! I do need to find a proper cap though...(this is only an extra I had in the drawer.) The limited information i was able to find makes me think it's a Skripsert. El cheapo pen, but the back end of the pen is flat, not round and is slightly tapered. Nib is silver toned, says Sheafer and takes cartridges. Is there something else this could be? Where would I find a cap? Any and all information, suggestions, guesses are greatly appreciated. (I paid $3 and a quick shot under the faucet and a cartridge later, it's being used again!) Not sure what this black one is, but if anyone can shed light on why it has a silver key like thing, I'd appreciate that, too, lol.
  2. First off, this is my first actual post. So howdy! Secondly, I've been doing a bit of research on a pen I found while looking for my first Parker 51 (I figured I might start with what a lot of people would consider 'the best'). One of the sellers had another pen that's currently sitting at 1 bid and $13. Ends tomorrow (In about 15 hours). The only detail given is it's a "Sheaffer Imperial Grey" and has a 14k nib. From a quick google search, I -think- it looks like a 1964 model because of an ad I stumbled on, but it's hard to tell. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Vintage-SHEAFFER-GREY-IMPERIAL-U-S-A-FOUNTAIN-PEN-14K-Nib-NICE-/00/s/MTQwOFgxNjAw/z/dXsAAOxy4dNSr69j/$_12.JPG?rt=nc So that's the pen. Does anyone know exactly what type it is? When it was made? And also if there are any reviews. If it's a good solid pen, then I might have to just skimp on Christmas grog and pick this up because from what I can see of it, it looks really damned pretty. If it writes as nicely as it looks, then it's getting bought. Also, sorry if this would go better in the Sheaffer sub-forum, but I figured that if I posted here, I might get more balanced opinions etc. Cheers for all your help (in advance!). - Josh

    What About The Sheaffer Snorkel?

Still on my quest for finding the awesome workhorse...a pretty horse who can do tricks too hehe. I always look for a pen that you can get fine lines when needed (usually by writing with it 'upside down'), as this comes in handy for writing small letters, writing on cheap paper, or just sketching. The Snorkel has captivated my eye because it has this beautiful upturned conical nib, and has a interesting filling system. However, when it comes to recommended pens for workhorse candidates, I see many responses being the Lamy 2000, Namiki Falcon, Lamy Safari, etc. I've had these before, and I have not been impressed. My question is, do you think the Snorkel would be a good workhorse for note-taking and sketching? Why or why not?
