  1. Aloha Everyone. This is my first writing sample. Does anyone know what style it is? How can I improve? What style or method should I practice to improve it? Thank you, jim
  2. Hi FPN, I have been lurking for quite a while but this is my first post on here. I currently own a TWSBI 580 and a Lamy Safari, both in extra-fine, I have been considering purchasing either an Edison collier or a Pelikan m400 pen. I like my nibs to draw quite thin lines having come from Uni-ball pens, and I do not have access to a local store that sells Pelikan pens, I was wondering if someone could provide writing samples for a Pelikan extra-fine nib so I can try to assess the line-width. Thank you for your time, ~Chris
  3. Hi all, I am about to go after a Pelikan M800 with a Medium nib. Does anyone have some writing samples to show of the Medium nib (ideally compared with the Broad nib, in case you have both pens)? That would really help me move forward with this purchase.
  4. Is there such a thing as elegant printing vs cursive/script? Such as for snail mail letter writing? Can anyone post samples of printing in letter writing? Are there actual styles for this? Thanks Aloha jim

    For The Ink Lovers

PENtastic CxPO Tester Folded Pens ( Buy Now ) These folded pens are designed to fit the small sample vials that are hard to get into. They hold a lot more ink than dip pens and produce much more expressive lines. They are also super easy to clean - a dip in water, a shake, a wipe and you are ready to move on to the next sample (or bottle :-) These pens fit any standard straight holder and can be ordered individually or as a set of 2 nibs (in different styles). Here is a short video showing the pens in action https://youtu.be/7Smg8PvToLQ These can be ordered from the online store here: PENtastic CxPO Tester Pens ...and here are some more pictures 'cause we (ok me!) love pictures.
  6. I did a search on the forum and found a US, British and South Korean ink (sample) exchange, but nothing that covers my neck of the woods (well, at least not in the 10 pages of results my search returned). I see pictures and read descriptions of inks pretty much daily. Many of them leave me curious about how they are in the analog world. Unfortunately, many of these inks (e.g. Noodlers) are not available here and I simply don't have the budget to buy every ink I'd like to try. I really can't imagine I'm the only one with this problem, so I'd like to know if there are other folks here that would be interested in swapping ink samples. Myself, I'm interested in both samples to use and samples of real world usage of an ink (as the latter would seriously reduce mail costs, sending a small package abroad is almost as expensive as a 80ml bottle of Diamine here in the Netherlands. I was thinking about maybe creating some kind of template/form that participants can print out and fill in with the ink in question, so you always know what to expect). My (fairly limited) collection of inks consists of: Diamine Emerald Diamine Red Dragon Diamine Royal Blue J. Herbin Eclat de Saphir J. Herbin Orange Indien J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune J. Herbin Rouge Bourgogne Hero 232 Blue-black (iron-gall) Pelikan 4001 Brilliant black Rohrer & Klingner Blu Mare Rohrer & Klingner Helianthus Rohrer & Klingner Magenta Sailor Jentle Blue-black So, anyone interested in something like this?
  7. I recently ordered a sample of the J. Herbin Rouge Hematite. I have heard though that they did a reformulation due to clogging of the nib. I have the old formulation. How does it compare to the new one. Is there more gold sheen? Less? Thanks!!!
  8. This is a video I made a while back that I thought this community would enjoy. The video is a demonstration on the Pilot Custom Heritage 92 in smoke, with a broad nib. The ink is Noodler's Ottoman Rose which I got as an ink sample. Enjoy! I have more videos like this on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6pAl06Dx2E1WqWof7JnnvA

    Parker 45 Demonstration (Video)

Here's a video I made a while ago demonstrating a Parker 45. It's the midnight blue model with a medium nib. I have it inked with Noodler's Navy which matches it almost perfectly. The bit-rate in the video is kinda low due to editing with Windows Movie Maker. Enjoy! I have more videos like this on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6pAl06Dx2E1WqWof7JnnvA
  10. I just typed a lot of stuff about this pen and my browser lost it. :-/ On to the important stuff. I'll come back to write more about it (again) when I have some more time. http://i.imgur.com/MZLVlTE.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/e03zupP.jpg
  11. Hello, As per request of some fellow members, I decided to give away a bottle of Parker Penman Sapphire in form of 2-3 ml sample vials, the problem is that sending to so many people is not possible for me, so contacted amberleadavis and she very kindly accepted to help with the postage, so I will send the bottle to her and she will work on the sample vials and posting them. Details: - 15 people will be selected, Anyone interested please leave a comment and we will pick the 15 people at our discretion. - This PIF is for people who have not used PPS before. - Preferences will be given to those people who have done one review. - Expect to pay about $2 in postage for CONUS. We will pay for the ink, the vials and the envelopes. - Your commitment would be to write a letter using PPS and post it in the Great PPS CRV: Join the fun - be part of the largest BLUE ink comparison. Your inky-put is appreciated. Best regards.
  12. Good afternoon, I have recently picked up my first copy of the Leuchtturm Whitelines with dot grid notebook (5.75x8.28 inch, A5?). While I have had a few of the original 1917 notebooks this is my first Whitelines edition. One of the features of these notebooks are perforated pages at the back of these notebooks that I never use as my work has to be on bound number pages. The question is would people be interested in me sending out some of these pages so that they can try out the paper? I will keep a couple so I can spare six, if people are interested I am thinking 3 interested random parties get 2 pages each? Thoughts?
  13. Hey there everybody! i just ordered my very own monteverde impressa (broad nib) but don't have a very good handle on how to get going. is there anyway you guys here could help me out a bit? I was going to ask some more talented hands to provide an example I can work to re-create and then later personalize and make my own. Id rather take direction from the experts, if you know what I mean The three separate texts I am wanting to write are "YOSPOS" , "TANE" and "CHOME" silly, yes, but it's for an art project and Id like to get going on it! thanks in advance -am

    Lamy 2000 Video (Review?)

I made a short video for the Lamy 2000 just for fun and I thought I'd share it with you guys. The video and editing style is obviously a blatant rip-off of theimmovablemovers' viral Namiki Falcon and Nakaya videos. I prefer the term 'inspired,' but yes, it's a rip-off. The dark background comes off really grainy and awful, so I apologise for that. It looked fine on my camera's display. I hope you enjoy the video.
  15. Hey all! Hope you are having a fantastic end to the year! I am celebrating 100 subs on my YouTube channel, and I am giving away 4 Jinhaos with samples of Organics Studios White Label inks to one winner. http://40.media.tumblr.com/5763b3daed526ed205eb6568d0430343/tumblr_ng0s9sb20f1rg83ymo1_500.jpg http://41.media.tumblr.com/c0295ff2132fcff1c267d0653ee1463a/tumblr_ng0shq94la1rg83ymo1_500.jpg I made a silly video with the full rules down below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmoGmudvobo However, there is a super secret bonus entry for FPN members: PM me with an email address, then comment on this thread so I can manually enter an extra entry for you! Also, if you would like to do the handwritten entry option, I can also PM you the postal address for that.
  16. Very recently in Japan, Pilot has released a sample set of Iroshizuku inks for 2100 yen. Grab a white box and pick any 3 of the 15 ml bottles! Here's a store blog post with some pictures. http://plaza.rakuten.co.jp/penstyleden/diary/201411190001/ I haven't gone out hunting looking for these yet, but I want to find a shop with a display. Hopefully we can see these become available online sometime in the near future!
  17. Hi again. I recently posted about what blue black I should buy. After a few people replied I have decided on Montblanc Midnight Blue. If anyone in Australia, preferably NSW, has any and is willing to send me a sample it would be much appreciated, as the cheapest I could find it for was $35 posted, which is quite expensive, and I don't want to risk having a bottle of ink sitting around not getting used. Thanks.

  19. Hello! I was wondering if anyone of you has a Parker Duofold (or maybe another pen) with an Oblique Fine nib? I was looking everywhere for some writing/drawing OF samples ....in vain I would like to know if an oblique nib would help me create some more line variation while drawing or would it skip all the time while not holding to a certain angle? I always tend to turn the nib towards me when I write and draw... actually when I draw I twist the pen all the time in all directions and use all the sides of the nib. I did not realise that until I watched a video of my hands while I draw... And if I turn an oblique upside down, does it produce a thinner line like the rounded nibs? I have some dip pens with reverse oblique nibs. They are totally flat, sharp as hell and a bit too broad for detailed drawing so they don't really help me imagine how an OF would work. The thing is I finally ordered my new Duofold. It comes with an F nib...but I could exchange the nib within 4 weeks. I'm really interested in the OF but I'm not sure if I can test it anywhere in Berlin... In all the stores I've been to I've been told I will probably have to send my pen to Parker (in Hamburg I think) if I'm not happy with the F nib. Sorry for writing a novel Here is one of my sketches...I'm interested in a nib that would create long, organic lines and give me lots of line variation.... Thank you for any help!
