To celebrate the 105th anniversary of the Namiki group, Pilot Namiki is launching this White Rabbit Emperor limited edition '23, made in Shishiai-Togidashi maki-e, the most complex technique of this ancestral art. Since Antiquity, rabbits have been interpreted as auspicious creatures, and the artisan Masahiro Yamada decided to stage the legend of the white rabbit of Inaba and the deity Okuninushi on a background of lacquer and platinum powder. The Chinkin process sounds rather simple but there is no room for error in carving the surface material. An appropriate design for the lacquered object is initially sketched. Then the artist ‘carves’ the urushi surface with special chisels and carving tools. Next, urushi is rubbed just into the lines and dots as adhesion and sprinkled with gold foils, powders, or colored pigments, and finally polished by washi, a japanese traditional paper. The Sailor Chinkin Bumbeblee limited edition is created by Chinkin artist Misato Tsukada. Only 28 pcs for the world. Sailor is pleased to announce a new series of limited edition maki-e fountain pens entitled 'Dobutsu to Gekkou' or 'Animals in the Moonlight.' The first one to crown the series is the Antler Stag. Proud and without fear, he stands in the moonlight. 'Sailor Shika to Gekkou' The round moon is one big spot of mother of pearl dusted with silver powder. The background of the pen is matt and has a slight ishime structure. At first sight, it looks black, but with changing light, it turns dark green. This piece of art is executed in Togidashi Taka Makie by master Ikki Moroiki. Fifty copies for the world. The Izumo Kurikara-ken is inspired by the legend of “Kurikara Ryu-o”. The pen is decorated with the mighty sword that belonged to Fudo Myo-o, one of the Five Grand Kings of "Godai Myo-o". The legend tells about Fudo Myo-o transforming into a sword to fight a devil force. The devil changes into the same sword and Fudo Myo-o mutates quickly into a dragon “the Kurikara Ryu-o” and swallows the devil with his evil powers. It seems like the whole pen is disguised in a matt black coat. The design of the Kurikara dragon in Sumiko Taka Maki-e has been achieved by heaping up charcoal “sumi” powders to achieve a three-dimentional effect. To match this pen Platinum choose for a ruthenium coated clip and trim and white gold President nib. And they were right. The 100th anniversary of the Namiki group is cause for a special celebration. Seven artisans from the present Kokkokai group contributed to the creation of seven Yukari-type fountain pens. They are all equipped with a clip and an 18-karat gold nib. Each model is made in Taka Maki-e and shows one of The Seven Gods of Fortune. Only 25 of 150 of each pen are available in Europe. I wanted to share with you the Sailor LE "Koi-no-Takinobori". It has only been released in Europe. It is the first pen in a series of four, limited to 28 pcs each worldwide. The theme is "Waterfalls and Nature". Launched in september only a few pcs are left. The #3 is the last one available for 2016 in the SFPG. A few more are to be expected in 2017. Pictures never do justice to a maki-e. This pen is beautiful and shiny in silver and gold on a black background. On the cap the waterfall is "splashing" down in a dynamic way. The Koi reaching to the top stands out in a raised reliëf. On the body you discover a Koi in a "see through" way under the water. The flowers painted on this pen are three of the seven autumn flowers famous in Japan : hagi, omiaeshi and kikyo. Eboya For European Customers : With Eye-Dropper Or C/c System ?

I would like to know if European customers would like an eye-dropper system for the Eboya's. I have the Eboya pens in my boutique but ordered them only with cartridge/convertors. Eye-droppers are not common in Europe. When I mention in general the possibility of eye-dropper system customers tend to respond in a negative way. It seems to me that in the US eye-droppers are more accepted and appreciated. I would appreciate your comments. -

Some new Danitrio pens arrived with a new finish : the Kama nuri ! It is a techniek developed by the Danitrio artisans. It finds some similarity in the Kamakura-bori and Cho-Shitsu techniques. The result is a beautiful handmade structured surface.
