  1. After getting into fountain pens recently (I always appreciated good fountain pens, just not as a hobby), I quickly re-ignited my flair for eyedroppers', simply because they hold a lot of ink. After searching for quality eyedroppers, and generally pen mechanisms that can hold lot of ink, I heard about Ranga Pens, a small operation based in India. The prices seemed right, so I ended up ordering Model 3C (cigar/rounded top). This review is of the maker as much as it is of the fountain pen. Right from the start, they were very communicative, prompt, and provided accurate timelines. Within 3-4 weeks, I had Model 3C, and I was blown by its beauty (and smell -- I love ebonite smell)! Strikingly handsome, the pen also hit the sweet spot for my preferred grip thickness, and writes well. The machining is impeccable, the threads are smooth, and overall the pen's worth is way more than the modest price. After enjoying the 3C for a couple of months, I added Model 3 in matt black. The stock nibs are KanWrite #6, made by Kanpur Writers, and are steel with a good feedback. Of course, no pen is without quirks, and I disliked the feed base sticking out from the grip -- pushing it in hard and it was set fine. Maybe it should come that way, but it wasn't a big issue. Ranga also provides options for Bock, JoWo and Schmidt #6 nibs, the prices are higher due to the additional threads and the nib units. Considering the overall quality and writing pleasure, I can certainly say these won't be my last Ranga pens. Please enjoy a few pictures (I had to click pictures in sunlight to capture the beauty). Here is a comparison shot with several other pens (from L to R: Noodler's Ahab, Karas Kustoms INK, Ranga 3C, Ranga 3, Kaweco Sport, and Opus 88 Koloro)

    Ranga Model 4C - review

Ranga, Model 4C ebonite in green/black ripple I heard from this penmaker via FPN and YouTube videos. As I tend to be drawn to ebonite I was immediately interested in this brand. After I found out that they are hand made in India it only enforced the initial appeal. I lived in Nepal for a while, and I really learned to appreciate the craftsmanship and the idea of supporting a small family business. For me it was a no-brainer to order a pen (actually 4) from Ranga. So, the facts: Manufacturer: Ranga & Co Model: 4C Material: Ebonite (green ripple) Nib: Jowo #6 steel (EF) - unit Filling system: 3 in 1 (eye dropped) Capped: 154 mm Uncapped: 137 mm Posted: 189 mm Section: 9,6 – 11,1 mm (11-12,5 advertised) ______________________________________________________________________ Appearance & Design (8) – Classic design The design of the pen is simple and classic, yet the material looks stunning. This combination makes it an appealing pen. It is a slightly larger pen but not oversized. The design and material is understated and this makes it also great in a business environment. Construction & Quality (7) – Lovely with little flaws The threading on the pen is great and unintrusive. The threading on the section is extremely long and that enhances the feeling of being able to securely eye dropper this pen. The pen uncaps with just under 1 turn! That is great for quick notetaking. The material is lightweight, and the feel of the ebonite is lovely. There are 3 little flaws: Cap and barrel don’t align totally (small seam noticeable); The backside of the clip is corroding; The pen burps quite often when eye dropper filled. There are just minor flaws that do not bother me. After all it is handmade and this ads to the character of the pen Weight & Dimensions (7,5) – Good length and lightweight The length of the pen really fits my hands and writing style. Posted it is way to long for my taste. I don’t have a scale, but the pen feels super lightweight (even fully inked up). The section could be a bit girthier for my tase. Close to the nib it’s only 9,6 mm and that makes it feel a bit finicky to me. Nib & Performance (8) – It’s a Jowo #6 The #6 Jowo nib performs as expected (out of the box) It’s quite dry and a little misaligned. But after some tuning it is smooth and gives a nice EF line with a good wet flow. This extra fine nib is now wet enough to really show the character of the ink (in this case Akkerman Shocking Blue #5) The feed seems to be filled quite quickly and this sometimes results in burping (eye dropper filled) if you keep the pen nib-up for a few minutes this is gone again. Filling System & Maintenance (8) – Your choice With the 3 in 1 filling system, you can do whatever you want. There is a converter included with the pen. I chose to eye dropper it as I dislike refilling pens and like a big ink capacity. But I might have to start using the converter due to the burping problem and I can’t have this during a meeting. I really like that you can use cartridges, a convertor or eye dropper for filling the pen. Always good to have options. Cost & Value (10) – Can’t complain here For just a little over € 68,- this is a great value for your money pen. Especially if you consider it’s handmade, made of ebonite, huge number nib options and send within 2 weeks (order, produced and shipped!!). The packaging is great and reminds me of my time in Nepal. Conclusion (Final score [48,5/6]: 8 ) – Thumbs up for Ranga All in all, I’m very satisfied with the pen and it is one of my daily writers at this moment. Mr. Kandan (who does the customer service, amongst other things) is great and really understands what customer service should be like. In two words: polite and helpful! I can certainly recommend Ranga pens P.S. I now own 4: The Majestic, 4C, 8B and Giant 9B and all of them write lovely.

    Ranga Pens

Just arrived to add to my collection of Ranga pens from India. I have about 15 of these wonderful pens. They are reasonably priced and are beautiful to with. They are also works of art -- handmade and more like works of art than a utilitarian tool. You can see how they are made here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08pUuLREZR4 These are really remarkable objects
  4. I bought my fountain pen from Ranga pens. Its an Abhimanyu model in acrylic with a #6 Jowo nib. This pen feels very comfortable in my hand and I'm planning to upgrade it to a titanium nib since I want to try one. As per my limited knowledge Bock is the only supplier of titanium nibs. But I don't know if a bock nib unit will fit into a pen threaded for Jowo nib. I got this doubt because on the website thepenworld.com they have Jowo compatible nib units separately and Bock compatible nib units separately, both made by Kanwrite. So I was wondering if there is difference in them both. Can anyone advice me on that? Is it possible for me to upgrade this pen to a titanium nib or I have to purchase one more with a titanium nib?
  5. RANGA DEMONSTRATOR BAMBOO - Regular size The review is simultaneously posted at my blog here : Link Ranga Handmade Pens is a brainchild of M.S. Pandurangan who himself is a master pen turner and all pens and pencils are made by him only. His son M.P. Kandan is doing great deeds by taking care of the business part of Ranga Handmade Pens. I must add that both him and his father are very humble and polite. I have organised few group buys on Fountain Pen Network for Ranga Pens and every-time the dealing with him have been very professional. He has never lapsed on the dates as far as his commitment and deliverables are concerned. But yes thats what my experience has been till date and I hope he continues do to the same. Ranga Pens make use of ebonite and acrylic for pens and in-fact they are the first and one amongst two pen makers in India to offer Premium Ebonite. They have a dedicated eBay store where they sell not just Ranga Pens but also pens from other manufacturers from India like Wality, Oliver, Fellowship etc. which are all machine turned. The pens from Ranga are also stocked by Teri of Peyton Street Pens in USA with also some exclusive models. The group buys on FPN have helped in acquiring lot of Ranga Pens. They have more than 10 models in their line-up : Model 4C Bamboo Model 3 Model 4CS Model 5 Model 6 Model 8 Model 2c Model 2d Zeal And I have already reviews one of the model which is Model 4C but this review is about one of the unique model in their line-up which is Bamboo. Ranga Bamboo – Doing Rain Dance Ranga Bamboo – Braving the Rain Design : 05/05 The pen design resembles the natural bamboo with forged joints acting as nodes and parts between the two nodes acting as inter-nodes. The pen in review is the clip-less demonstrator in brushed version with polished finials. Natural Bamboo Ranga Bamboo – In Demonstrator version Ranga Bamboo – Asymmetrical inter-nodes provides it Natural character All in all there are 5 nodes with smaller inter-nodes at cap and to me that provides it natural character. The finials, both top and bottom, are polished and are in conical dome shape. Ranga Bamboo – Polished Conical Dome Shaped Finials Once thing to be noticed is that the cap finial is smaller in length as compared to the barrel finial and the reason for that is to provide balance to the pen when writing so that it does not become top heavy. Ranga Bamboo – Different Length of finials with Barrel one being longer The inter-nodes in the cap are smaller than what is on the barrels in length. The cap also has breather hole and this version is clip-less so it looks like one bamboo rod albeit in a different material. Ranga Bamboo – Clip-less with breather hole Ranga Bamboo Cap – Inner nib look and feel when pen is capped The cap closes to form a node and it actually flushes with barrel as can be seen from picture above. There is minute drop between section and barrel as the cap flares at bottom where it meets the barrel. The grip section is polished and not in matte finish. There is no branding anywhere on this pen. Below are the images of the pen showing pen capped and uncapped. Ranga Bamboo – Capped Ranga Bamboo – Uncapped It is superbly crafted pen with a very unique bamboo style pen like no other. And I believe the pen is worth the price it commands. The pen is also available in different ebonite and acrylic materials which must be around 30 plus in nos. So one has lot of options to get the pen in his particular colour and finish liking. Kudos to Ranga for the superb design. Built & Construction : 04/05 The pen has matte finish which is executed very well and transition from matte finish to polished finials is sublime though they are not perfect but its close. Ranga Bamboo – Matte Finish barrel to Polished Finials Earlier I thought that the finials could be made symmetrical in length but part of the reason to do that was to keep the pen balanced while writing without increasing the length of cap. But then I thought otherwise, this asymmetry is what gives it natural character. The cap opens in 4 turns and threads are very well crafted and are not at all sharp. The grip section as mentioned is also very well polished. Also I must add that the polished end of the finials are highly polished and very neat without any lathe marks visible. Ranga Bamboo – Polished Section with neat threads I applied silicon grease on the nib unit which you can see from the image above as I eyedropper-ed the pen. The finish, the grooves, the material quality are all top notch. However one thing i want to mention is the the material thickness decreases at the cap lip and must be handled very well as there is no band to protect any kind of crack. This is a handmade pen completely and is a “WOW” product at this price point. Balance & Size : 4.5/05 The cap posts but only just and that too not very securely. I think it is not required as it makes the absurdly large and uncomfortable also the pen itself is very long at 135 mm when uncapped. The pen is very well balanced with just a little more weight in front end of a nib unit. Ranga Bamboo – Writing with Cap Unposted Ranga Bamboo – Writing with Cap Posted The pen is light in weight with no metal parts used anywhere on the pen. Images below show the weight of pen with cap and without cap : Ranga Bamboo – Weight of Pen (inked) with Cap Ranga Bamboo – Weight of Pen (inked) without Cap Few specification of the pen are as follows: Length of pen (closed) – 145 mmLength of pen (open and unposted) – 135 mm (including nib)Length of Grip Section – 34 mmMaximum Dia of Cap – 15 mmMaximum Dia of Barrel – 15 mmMinimum Dia of Barrel Section – 12.5 mmMaximum Dia of Grip Section – 11 mmMinimum Dia of Grip Section – 10 mmWeight of Pen with Cap – 24 gms (inked)Weight of Pen without Cap – 18.75 gms (inked) Below pictures show the comparison of pen with other pens: Pen Comparison – Capped (Top View) : Pilot 78G vs Lamy Safari vs Ranga Bamboo Pen Comparison – Uncapped and Posted (Top View) : Pilot 78G vs Lamy Safari vs Ranga Bamboo Pen Comparison – Capped (Lateral View) : Pilot 78G vs Lamy Safari vs Ranga Bamboo Pen Comparison – Uncapped & Posted (Lateral View) : Pilot 78G vs Lamy Safari vs Ranga Bamboo One thing of worthy mention here is that the grip section long and comfortable and makes this pen as gem of a writer for long writing sessions. Nib : 05/05 The pen comes with variety of #6 size nib options like JoWo EF, F, M , B, 1.1, & 1.5 and Schmidt F, M, & B for CC mechanism which is a threaded screw in one and also can be used as an eyedropper too and other nib options are Ambitious and Bock (conklin imprinted) but these are only for eye dropper version of pens. The nib that I took was the dual tone Bold point JoWo nib which is screw in nib unit with plastic high finned nib and it performed flawless out of the box with welcome feedback. It is a juicy firm nib and writes wet. Ranga Bamboo – JoWo Nib – Bold Point Ranga Bamboo – Nib with Rain droplets I sometimes wonder why I need gold nib when this nib performs so well. Ink Filling Mechanism: 05/05 The ink is filled via converter and cartridge can be also used. But real fun lies in using this pen as a eyedropper and seeing the ink sloshing inside. Ranga Bamboo – Used as eyedropper Ink capacity around 4ml if used as an eyedropper. The converter that comes with pen is Schmidt K5 and has capacity of 0.6 ml. One thing to be noted is that before you use it as an eye dropper do apply silicone grease on threads of barrel and also on nib unit threads. Below is the handwritten sample and review of the pen : Ranga Bamboo – Handwritten Review – Page 01 Ranga Bamboo – Handwritten Review – Page 02 Ranga Bamboo – Handwritten Review – Page 03 Ranga Bamboo – Handwritten Review – Page 04 Conclusion : 23.5/25 I pen is available in group buy at FPN for US$85 which is a steal considering it is handmade pen and it is a unique design. The pen is more of an artefact from India and is recommended to users who want something more from a pen. What I Like: Unique Design Handmade Quality Finish Good Balance and Size Good Ink Capacity Nib Options Material OptionsWhat I don’t Like: Cap Material is thin at Lip Little expensive HOW TO BUYThe pen can be bought via occasional group buys organised at group buy and at the moment when I am writing this review the Group Buy is Active. 6. I think it was sometime in mid-late 2007 that I and M.P. Kandan of Ranga came into contact with each other. We have interacted a lot over the last eight years. Ranga are based in a town called Thiruvallur, a suburb some 60 kms away from Chennai. I am an annual visitor (sometimes more frequently) to Chennai, but we never got a chance to meet. This October I was again visiting Chennai and this time we decided that we must surely meet. Kandan invited me over to his place, so that I could also meet his family and specially his father, the master pen maker Thiru M.S Pandurangan who has been hand crafting pens for more than the last 45years. I hired a cab from Chennai and rented it out to take me to Thiruvallur for around 5 hours. However as it happens when pen people meet, time simply flew and I ended up spending more than 7 hours at Ranga. I received a very warm welcome and was treated like a family member and I even had wonderful homemade lunch prepared by Kandan's mother. I am really grateful and touched. I was able to see all the models and materials that they had made and I also got a chance to closely observe the making of a fountain pen from scratch. I was humbled to see the amount of craftsmanship and manual work that Kandan's father puts into making each pen. It was wonderful and at the same time humbling to realise that perhaps Ranga is the only pen maker in India still keeping alive and employing the traditional long forgotten, skill intensive art of hand chasing the threads on the pen. No taps/dies/thread cutting lathes are used. The pens are shaped free hand. The Ranga technique of hand chasing is different from the Japanese technique. Ranga's technique involves moving/advancing the hand chaser by hand in tandem and in rhythm with the thread pitch since the pen is rotated in the turning centre. From the videos available of the Japanese technique, their chasing tool is held stationary while the pen moves back and forth in tandem with the thread pitch. Ranga (Thiru. M.S Pandurangan) also make their own tools for pen making and this is the reason they can cut threads on their pens for almost any nib unit/section. I was able to make a small video using my hand held camera, I hope the readers will find the video interesting and informative. Some pics that I took during the visit: Foot operated pen making treadle: http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af39/hari3171/Ranga/DSC_7115_812x540.jpg Special handmade tools: http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af39/hari3171/Ranga/DSC_7118_812x540.jpg http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af39/hari3171/Ranga/DSC_7120_812x540.jpg http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af39/hari3171/Ranga/DSC_7113_812x540.jpg Thiru. 8. First, I just wanted to say these two pens that I recently received went well above and beyond my already high expectations of Ranga Pen Company. I had never purchased a pen from India before, yet had lusted after one after seeing @Bobje's beautiful Model 8 review here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/310374-ranga-model-8-in-blue-orange-and-green-ebonite/ From which (and a year later), I took the plunge- oh my should I have done so sooner! Keep in mind this is not a nib review - the focus of this write-up is upon the pens, nib threading, construction, finish, quality etc. This is for several reasons. Firstly, because I ordered JoWo nib threading and Ranga is not a nib manufacturer, although they have various nib types from which one can choose. I already had several Edison, Pablo stubs (fpnibs.com) and Goulet nibs around, so there was no need for me to order any, and better to make use of the lonely ones I had. Seeing this mans' 149 nib which The Ranga Pen Company included in a similar order has convinced me my next project with Ranga will be either a discontinued 14k Visconti nib, or Pelikan M1000 nib. Likely within a Model 4. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/243220-ranga-pen-with-montblanc-149-vintage-nib/ Let's look at some photos ^.^ (The camera phone does not do justice to the beautiful hard rubber pens or their flawless construction) EyeCandy 10/10 Ordering Process, Communication and Timeframe 10/10 I contacted Mr Kandan about making a bit of a custom order in that I wanted no clips on either pen; the Model 8 to be 'upsized' so that it would be similar to the Model 3, be heavily polished, take 2 rotations to uncap (if possible), and be threaded for JoWo #6 nibs/international converters and/or eyedropper. Thankfully, my requests were obliged and I was offered a range of ebonite colours to choose from. My first preference for the Model 8 was the same beautiful ebonite as Bobje's, but that was not available at the time and I went ahead with a beautiful mottled brown tan for the 8 and red ripple with black section and cap on the other. Mr Kandan was very thorough, professional and detailed. But most impressive is the turn around time, absolutely amazing I did not think it possible! Only 30 days after deciding my order with Mr Kandan they were already at my door in Australia!! Quality, Construction and Cost 10/10 I cannot overstate how well made these pens are, they are suitable for any collector. Those whom collect celluloid montblancs would appreciate a Ranga, those who are just entering the fp world and have a safari or metro. And especially those yet to have a hard rubber pen - these are amongst the best you can have of pens under 500 USD IMO. My thoughts upon watching the Ranga video that these pens are made entirely by hand - right down to the threads being 'hand chased',(an almost extinct technique), I was curious of how the threads would turn out. They are smoother and more precise than modern Montblancs and Pelikans. I kid not. Even if one were to hold there fingers over the threads with quite some force, one may not be aware of their presence. Another telltale of the quality of the threading is capping and uncapping takes less than two rotations, but even after one rotation the precision of the thread is obvious because I 'held' the body of the pen at one rotation and tried jiggling the cap up and down, and voila, almost no movement (try doing that with some of the best threaded pens in the world - you will be surprised what pens perform best). Once more I was very impressed. The nib threading is as magnificent as the capping. The nib unit fits almost exactly flush with the bottom of the pen section, very sleek. Both my pens are from the 'regular' ebonite range. There is also a 'premium' range, which is a few dollars more expensive. But, there is nothing 'regular' about these pens or the ebonite... Some have mentioned that there may be 1 or 2 'micro-pits' in the ebonite. But this is certainly not the case in mine. Others have said they are not 100% the same polishing all over the pen. Once more I could not notice this... Until, I spent 10 minutes under bright light literally inspecting the body looking for any imperfection, alas perhaps the smallest tool polishing mark, which I would never have noticed under normal use. Finding such a tiny indiscretion is for review purposes. If one spent this much time actively looking for a fault within an object, the fault is more likely in oneself and not the object, but I digress, back to the pen. Knowing the pen is not entirely flawless absolutely increases my appreciation for the pen. I think of it like I do the lacquer on my 'neostandard' Nakaya step and threads, the Nakaya lacquer is not exactly uniform around the edges there, but this is not a fault it is something to appreciate and treasure. So too, are my Rangas. As far as cost goes - Ranga are literally underpriced for the quality and materials that you receive. My 'duofold' was $59, whilst model 8 was $64 [uSD] (no nibs, but threaded for JoWo). Considering each pen takes several hours to craft by hand as well as the cost of materials... What can I say - I would be as happy if I paid 2x as much? Because you bet I would. The pens are turned from solid hard rubber rods, some other 'hand made pens' are not necessarily this handmade, I will post a video of their construction below. Utility/Comfort/Mass/Size (subjective for everyone but for myself 10/10) Both these pens are large. Similar to a Visconti HS Maxi, slightly larger than a TWSBI vac700/r, yet a touch smaller than an Edison Huron or Herald Grande. They are both light weight and exceptionally well balanced, my comparative hand scales tell me approx. 20grams with converter, add a potential 7mL of ink in the ol' eyedropper and you have 27g . Although, I will not be doing that. In recent years I have grown more and more fond of the simplicity and ease of cleaning that a simple converter pen offers. The wide, long section, the gentle and smooth threads, and almost no 'step' make this pen a true writer. A long, novel writer. Which section shape you prefer is totally up to you, but I enjoy both these equally The pens do post and there has clearly been quite a lot of work and thought about the structural integrity of the post mechanism. This is because if one shines a light into the cap it is clear that the inner diameter of the rear of the cap is explicitly designed for being posted and to prevent the cap threads from being in contact with the barrel when posted, thus pressure cracks should never develop. But would one want to post these pens in practice? I do not really ever see the need. The pens become too unreasonably long for me, you will see in this comparison (not that anyone would post a vac700 cap) be assured the posted Ranga is much better balanced than the TWSBI. Lastly, some comparative side by side pics with other pens I had in nearby acess Overall, Ranga get a 100% recommendation from me! Thanks for reading if you got this far - this was actually my first FPN review Thanks Ranga Pen Company for the great experience! 12. Ranga Pen Company (Ranga Handmade Pens) founded by MS Pandurangan in 1970 in Thiruvallur has been producing quality fountain pens, rollerball pens, and ball pens. They use ebonite, acrylic, and also used to make pens from cellulose nitrate in past. There were recently a lot of group buys on Fountain Pen Network where new ebonite rods were introduced which I took an opportunity to photograph. 14. Ranga Pens is amongst the one quality pen manufacturer in India. Infact they are the only manufacturer in India who have the premium colors and quality ebonite pens apart from regular ebonite and acrylic pens. They have an active Ebay store where they sell not just fountain pens but also ball pens and Roller Ball pens and also raw materials like ebonite rods and acrylic blanks. The link to ebay shop is as below: RANGAHANDMADE Also Peyton Pen Street is also authorized seller of Ranga Hand Made pens. Here is the link to the webpage: PEYTON Mr. M.P. Kandan of Ranga Pens can also be reached at Fountain Pen Network, where he is quite active. Here is the link to reach him on FPN : MPKANDAN – RANGA I have recently organized 3 group buys for three different model of thiers. Model 4C, Model 3 and Bamboo Model. And i have bought all three models through group buy. I will be reviewing all the models one by one. They have following Models in their lineup: Model 4C Bamboo Model 3 Model 4CS Model 5 Model 6 Model 8 Model 2c Model 2d ZealAnd few more. I will be reviewing Model 4C in this post. Which M.S.Pandurangan (Owner/Pen Turner) has crafted these pens from end-end. I also have reviewed this pen at my blog along with other pens and inks : LINK Model 4C – In the Wild This happens to be actually my second pen from the house of Ranga Pens and first one being Bamboo Model. Which i will be reviewing next. DESIGN & BUILT: 05/05 The build quality of this pen is impeccable. Its very well polished and there is no marks at all i see on the pen. Believe me its an handmade pen and when you hold the pen in your hand you wont be able to judge whether it’s handmade or not. Such and excellent finish Mr. Kandan has given on this pen. Model 4C – beauty Shot The quality of this premium ebonite is really really good. There are hardly any imperfections that you might otherwise find in regular color ebonites. The pen is quite sturdy and being ebonite it is more durable. The pen actually comes in approximately 24 color options out of which 10 are premium ebonite colors. The pen in review is premium orange ebonite which actually is muted earthy orange color. Model 4C – Uncapped It really feel amazing in your hand. And its certainly a looker. People look at this pen and actually take it from my hands just to feel it of not write with it. Such is the charming factor of this premium color ebonite. And yes i have noticed that these premium ebonites are far superior over the regular ebonites. Model 4C is actually a regular sized pen with bit of girth. It’s a cigar shaped pen which tapers down to the bottom and has rounded top and bottom. The cap is flushed with the barrel and you would hardly notice the joint. No imperfection. Superior attention paid to the product. Model 4C – Rounded Top and Bottom Model 4C – Capped - Cap is flushed with the barrel Model 4C – Uncapped -Barrel Tapers down to bottom Cap Clip is strong and sturdy and pen can easily stick to the shirt pocket. I have one qualms which is very minor and that is gold trim which is clip will turn to chrome soon. But i have an option to replace the cap clip easily. Also i found that clip was not in alignment and was off centred when pen arrived , but again that was easily taken care off by unscrewing the cap finial and straightening the clip. Model 4C – Cap and Clip Model 4C – Cap Finial View from top Model 4C – Cap inner view The grip section of the pen gradually tapers slightly towards the top and is also made of the same material. Complete pen is made of ebonite. I am really really happy with the top notch quality and finish on the pen. Below are few images showing the comparison of the pen with other pens: Ranga Model 4C vs Jinhao 159 vs Oliver F27 vs Parker Frontier – Capped Ranga Model 4C vs Jinhao 159 vs Oliver F27 vs Parker Frontier – Uncapped and Posted Ranga Model 4C vs Jinhao 159 vs Oliver F27 vs Parker Frontier – Uncapped and Posted – Side View Overall I am extremely happy with quality, built and finish of the pen. This is probably amongst the best pens from India. Full marks to Ranga. BALANCE AND SIZE: 4/5 The pen measures 150 mm when capped and 135 mm when uncapped including the nib. The dia of the cap is 15 mm and barrel tapers down from center to the bottom to 9mm from 15 mm. The average grip section dia is 10 mm and length is 30 mm. As far as balance is concerned it is very well balanced and you would love writing with this pen uncapped for longer periods. However I beleive the posting cap makes it extremely large at 180mm (yes cap posts securely) and for me it becomes slightly uncomfortable. Model 4C – Writing Unposted Model 4C – Writing Posted I love writing with this pen uncapped and unposted for longer periods. NIB AND INK FILLING MECHANISM: 05/05 My pen came with Dual Tone JoWo 1.5 Calligraphy stub and it writes amazing. has amazing line variation and is not at all scratchy. The pen has various nib options like JoWo (EF, F, M, B & 1.5) , Schmidt (F, M, & , Bock (F, M, & B – with Conklin imprinted) and Ambitious (F-M). I am really happy with my JoWo 1.5 Stub. It writes superb. MODEL 4C – JoWo Nib Unit Top View MODEL 4C – JoWo Nib Unit Side View MODEL 4C – JoWo Nib Unit Bottom View Ink filling mechanism is via Cartridge converter and the material being ebonite can be easily used as eyedropper.I prefer the flexibility of the pen to be used as eyedropper which lot of pens don’t give. Model 4C – Converter mechanism filling Below are few images showing handwritten review and sample: Model 4C – Page 1 _ Handwritten review Model 4C – Page 2 _ Handwritten review Model 4C – Page 3 _ Handwritten review CONCLUSION: I love the size shape and finish of the Model 4C. It's a regular sized pen with girth and i Like that and premium ebonite is like cherry on top. The price seemed expensive in beginning but beleive me it was worth it.
