To Buy Or Not To Buy, That Is The Question.
Arrivistepen posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
Hi All FP aficionados (or enablers), I am considering buying a Sailor Pro-Gear Tequila Sunrise (large) and wanted to have some feedback on the Sailor Pro-Gear and its relative value current value & longer term value (is it worth it? )...(2nd part i know is a loaded question). At $ 300. tilting toward buying it. Normally I would do a bunch of research reading/watching reviews etc. before making a FP purchase, so this is a time sensitive question and will wait 'till tomorrow to decide... Factors: It is new in box, choice of M or MF 21k nib I: collect these things, but I think I would use it in rotationdon't drink alcohol so itsa weird name for me to buy "tequila"have Pelikans, Sheaffer Balance II's, Conway Stewart Churchill Combo which I love to use, and a variety of others that I hardly usedon't have any experience w/ Sailor FP'slike its color variationspending the # won't affect my lifestyleuse fine & broad nibs mostlyhave a few Japanese Pilot & Platinum pocket pens which I likeWhaddya Think: Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Good value? STFU? Thanks for any thoughts that you conjure up.... George ArrivistePen- 10 replies

OCD alert: when unscrewing the barrel my Pro Gear squeaks, makes me wince, would that be a job for silicone grease or something else? Otherwise lovely pen.

Hello, I placed an order for what would have been my grail pen (OMAS Brown Arco Milord with a broad nib); however, it is looking like the retailer is going to be unable to fulfill it (RIP OMAS). As they were unable to fill it, they have offered to refund the purchase price, or replace the pen in the order. I find myself drawn to the Sailor King of Pen Pro Gear Sky Blue; however, there does not seem to be a lot of information about the KOP Pro Gear on FPN. I am a bit hesitant to order though, mostly due to the size of the pen. I am worried that it will not be long enough to use unposted (as I do not generally post my pens). So far, the ideal pen for me has been the Pelikan M800/M805. It has a nice heft to it, and is long enough for me to use it unposted. I'm curious as to how the length of the KOP Pro Gear compares to the M800. Any pictures comparing the KOP Pro Gear to an M800would be extremely helpful. All the best, ncc82602

I'm starting to think that my current grail pen might be a Sailor Pro Gear Realo with a Naginata Togi or Naginata Emperor. I've been driving myself a bit batty researching said pen, so here are a few questions that are bugging me: * Is the Realo a true piston filler just with a small ink capacity or is it a captive converter? I've seen it variously claimed to be either...the former's fine, I don't especially care about ink capacity and really like non-c/c filling systems. If it's a captive converter, though, I figure I might as well go with a c/c model. * Would it be prudent for someone who's never used a nice Sailor nib to skip straight to the Naginata series, or should I try out the normal 21kt nibs first?

I received a new burgundy Sailor Realo (Professional Gear shape) from a Japanese ebay seller today. All seems as it should be, but for a difference to the anchor logo on top of the cap. The first of the two pictures below is of the anchor logo on the cap of a Sailor Professional Gear Kanreki purchased earlier this year. It is the same style and material (gold-plated brass, per nibs.com) that I've seen on all my other Sailors with cap logos and in pictures. The second picture is of the cap logo of the new Realo. It does seem to be on a little disc cut into the cap top, but otherwise is obviously different than the other logo. It doesn't have the black background that the other logos are set against; more importantly, it is entirely flat. The traditional logo is like an actual little anchor; it has texture and you can see it from the side. The one on the Realo might be painted on. However it is put on, it strikes me as obviously inferior in make and style. I might go as far as to call it kind of cheesy looking. Can anyone confirm this is the new style for the Realos (and Pro Gears)? If it isn't, how suspicious should I be? Again, everything else about the pen (and box/papers) appears to be right. Thanks.

So I arrived to the last pen to my collection. Well, I think is going to be the last pen hehehehe.... It is going to be a Japanese branded pen, and I am between the Sailor Professional Gear 21kt Broad nib in black with rhodium trim. Or the Pilot Vanishing Point 18kt Broad nib in gun metal. The Sailor is priced at $170, and the Pilot at $115. But I cant decide between the two, what are your recomendations and opinions.....thanks!
