  1. I've long known that 尚羽堂 Fine Writing International's Chinese Constellations series and Wancher's Crystal series of fountain pens are essentially the same model just branded differently and offered in different (mutually exclusive) colourways, and FWI's Planets series and Wancher's Crystal II series must have rolled off the same production line. So, why on Earth was I still surprised when I came across these images, in a listing for the Chinese Constellations series on Taobao this morning? Source: Taobao item listing

    Aurora 8'88' Terra

    From the album: European pens

I thought I'd miss the spaceship on this limited edition, while waiting to spot one new on offer at a favourable price. I'm glad I didn't settle for a Blue Mamba instead! (Not that there's anything wrong with the guilloche body, and in fact I quite like it, but I would have preferred the Black Mamba; and I was twice frustrated having placed orders for it that ultimately got cancelled, so I figured the Black Mamba isn't mine to have.) I was always under the impression that the blue nib on this pen has a matt finish, which would look a bit out of place on this pen's design. I'm very glad it turned out to have a glossy finish.

  6. It helps to explore this yourself, revisiting once in a while if need be, and keep in mind where each of those personal info fields are entered. Don't leave it until the urge to change something specific to come upon you, and only then bother to ask the question! Invest the time surveying upfront, instead of waste it later waiting for an answer from nobody in particular. Most of the fields shown above are self-evident as to what they are. I think the only ones that could do with explanation are: Security and Privacy: There is only one setting under there, and that is a toggle for whether your online status (including ‘last active’ date or time) is visible to others Content View Behavior: That has nothing to do with what others can see about you, but only where you would like to start reading when accessing content Enable status updates: This toggle enables/disables the public feed on your profile page; if you disable it, then nobody (including you) can post publicly visible ‘status updates’ or any other message against your profile, but if you enable it, then anyone — friend, foe, or complete stranger — can post something there whenever, without waiting for you to initiate and then only reply to what you wrote Notification Settings have nothing to do with what others can see about you, and so is out of scope for this article, and I'm not going to delve into those right now. (You can look here, here, and here to wrap your head around how notifications work with respect to followed content.) N.B. There is a possibility that some of the above settings and data fields may not be available to Bronze members and/or Silver members, but I have no way of testing that or scoping it out. — • — Another way of getting to the Edit Profile dialog, and the way to change your profile photo (or ‘avatar’), is here: — • — Freeform, custom member titles that one enters for oneself are long gone, and have not been a thing since FPN came back from a long hiatus and platform upgrade late in 2020.

This pen is rather tricky to photo and show off its true colours, so I placed it on top of a reference card to help you better calibrate your perception of the colours in its aurolide body.

    Aurora 888 Giove (Or Jupiter)

What do you guys think of the upcoming new release of the Aurora 888 Giove (Jupiter) in the planet series? Appelboom, La Couronne du Comte and Iguana Sell have the model listed at the moment, if you want to see images of it; Aurora's own web site doesn't show it. Interesting colours, but I think I like the Saturno much better. It's a toss-up between the Giove and the more subdued/"classy" Nettuno, but the upside for the latter is that I can probably pick up a unit of that at a significantly discounted price.
  9. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/8843744581_bb2e07b8bb_b.jpg I love the Jupiter pen by Classic Pens and Paul Rossi. I got number 64 to celebrate my 64th birthday in 2007, had the nib customized by John Mottishaw and it is a regular in my monthly rotation. I love the glow of Jupiter set in the centre of the barrel in flame red acrylic surrounded by it’s four moons in white and blue and the distant specs of the constellations of Big Bear, Little Bear and Orion inlaid in gold amidst the deep blue space. And the space is not just blue, it is layers of blues from the diffusion bonded acrylic, just as Jupiter is not just red but it burns with bonded flame reds. It was the first pen released by Classic Pens on their own Legend and entirely handmade by Paul. For my 70th year I am getting another celestial pen, The Planets, also being handmade by Paul Rossi, this time on the new Classic Pens “Mythos”, a bit longer than the Legend and with a new, larger nib. I can’t get a number 70 as there won’t be 70 pens, so I have settled for number 2. And having now seen pictures of the prototypes I can’t wait. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2813/8844364856_37981eccf0_b.jpg This time the pen has the planets of our solar system with their moons, the earth at the centre and the sun on the cap, set in the deep space blue amid distant gold and silver stars. And with a beautiful clip design by Paul especially for this pen. This picture sent to me by Andy to contain my impatience shows the different acrylics being used in the prototypes, the large slices for the planets and the small white, yellow and blue for their moons, and scattered around are the gold and silver rods from which the stars will be made. He has told me that the final prototype should be ready early in June and I understand that Jim Mamoulides will make the announcement sometime after that. Meanwhile I have to decide what nib to go for. Oh, and sell some more pens to pay for it.
