Does anyone else notice that the quality and nature of penmanship changes depending on the nib, pen, ink, and paper?? Here's a sample of my sloppy handwriting. Practice in progress. Rhodia Paper.

This ink is a really neat brown. It flows consistently well, has no problems with cleanup, and is decent on lubrication. It's a really good all-rounder ink if you don't mind it not being permanent. Or, for that matter, water resistant at all. On a ten-point system, 10 being the best: Flow: 8 Lubrication: 6 Dry Time on Tomoe River Paper : 20-25 sec Shading: 7 (Depends largely on the pen) Bleed: None. Ghosting: Just a bit, nothing too heavy. Color: 7 - I like it a lot, especially in my Monteverde Invincia with a Pendleton BLS Nib. Its a very nice brown with good shading in this pen. Overall: 7 - This is a brown ink I could see myself returning to! Written Review: Photo: Scan: After capturing, I noticed there were bits of these really neat silvery black sheen where the ink pooled up enough. It probably won't be seen unless your pen is REALLY flowing on very ink-resistant paper, but it is there! I'll leave two pictures. One of the sheen circled and one not circled. The pictures do not do it much justice as in real life it sheens much more especially under light. I had real trouble picking up any sheen on my camera. Thanks for checking out my review! -Nick

At the moment I am writing an article on the function of flex nibs. Trying to explain why fps still write after the front of the flex nib has lifted off the feed I realised that I am making too many assumptions (I have some ideas ). I am using a Pilot Falcon as an example because I have some overall photos and I like its nib. In order to understand the function of a flex nib combined with a Pilot Falcon I would need some photos of the feed only... or if someone has a spare one (just the feed)... it does not need to function, only the front end needs to be undamaged... to have it in my hands. Another possibility would be photos of any other WORKING flex nib - feed combination with photos of the feed by itself. Thanks

Hello everyone! I'm Mike. I live in Denver, Colorado! About a year and a half ago I moved back to Denver (and the U.S. for that matter) from Australia. I am an engineer and was working in the field. Now that I have an office role I've dropped the field pencil and picked up the fountain pen...and I'm LOVING it! As engineers do, I've been researching to no end, learning as much as I can. I'm really glad I found FPN as it has been an incredible resource (unlike many forums out there...)! I also happen do be big into photography as a hobby! The Visconti Michelangelo rollerball was my first nice pen and it is what got me into writing more. I then found FPN and started lusting after many fountain pens and have since picked up a Lamy 2000 and a Visconti Homo Sapiens MIDI. Now I just need to practice my penmanship so I stop looking like I'm 4 years old. Hey guys... new to the forum, joined a few months back but, just now posting stuff. Was looking at reviews for inks and noticed the colours seems a bit off. I did read the sticky here about why colour differs, which I fully understand because I went to school for art, then graphic design, then part time for photography, also worked in IT for 10yrs so, I have a decent idea of how colour works and how monitors aren't always calibrated properly. Anyways.. not a complaint post. I love all the reviews. Very helpful. A trick I use for photos that works with scanning as well, is to use an 18% grey card. You can buy a grey/black/white set of cards off eBay from China, free shipping, for under $1.50. Very cheap, very handy, should last for years. If it helps people, I can created a post that shows how to use these to set a white balance that's decently accurate. And for people who don't have Lightroom or Photoshop, if you scan/photo your review and scan/photo a set of the cards, you can send me the files and I'll set the colour for you and send the files back. Just need to buy the cards from, well eBay or Amazon, photo store etc... So far I own 1 bottle of ink... Noodler's Black... so, can't do much review wise, just looking for another way to help out. Would this be of any use?

Starting this purely because I'm still gloating over basking in the afterglow of receiving my new D600: http://www.pbase.com/image/152455444.jpg That's a Tokina 12-24mm DX lens on it, backed by a Kenko 1.4x converter, which has the effect of turning it into a 17-34 mm FX lens. Just as well because having bought that chunk of fun I'm skint, so my DX lenses will have to do for a while. There's a bit of vignetting under f=15 mm nominal, but even at 12 mm nominal it can be cropped out to leave a 19 Mp image rather than the camera's 10.3 Mp native DX crop. The pic, BTW, was taken with my delightful little Nikon 1 V1, also new, or rather NOS acquired for about a quarter of the original price. :bunny01: Nous sommes un 'appy campeur.

Here are some short writing samples from pens ground into some form of italic nib. Unfortunately, one of my pens, ground by Greg Minuskin, is still in Italy for repair.
