Welcome to a dusky blue black by Organics Studio from the Elements series, made in Maryland, USA. Ink is muted, with lubrication slightly below average. These chemistry-themed inks were our first foray into the ink world, and have stuck with us ever since. and about Manganese. Manganese was first isolated in 1774 by Johan Gahn. It is used for its various oxidation states as the colorant for commercial pigments. It is also a crucial component of steelmaking. Let's start with the chroma: Writing samples: If you write with a gusher and flex it'll ghost and bleed through on thin copy paper... Photo: Comparison: Watertest: This was removed by filling a pipette with water and dabbing it with a tissue paper. It has no water resistance... And as usual an art work: Clouds: Organics Studio Manganese / De Atramentis Document Red Silver marker.... Paper is Talens... · Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef/Stub, Lamy Safari (EF/F/M/B/Stub 1.1), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib. · What I liked: Lovely dusky colour.... · What I did not like: Lack of water resistance.... · What some might not like: Muted/ dusky colour.... · Shading: Yes. · Ghosting: No. Only if you insist writing with a gusher on copy paper · Bleed through: Same as above. · Flow Rate: Wet · Lubrication: Slightly below average. Much better than Blue Merle · Nib Dry-out: No. · Start-up: No. · Saturation: I would call it dusky blue black. · Shading Potential: Yes · Sheen: Not noticed. · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not noticed. · Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not noticed. · Staining (pen): No. · Clogging: No. · Cleaning: Easy · Water resistance: Inexistant · Availability: 55 ml bottles Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. This is my 3rd and last mystery ink in my blind test from the Fpgeeks site. The name is a mouthful According to Penchalet: The Vintage series of inks are made using vintage, yet simple ink formulas that are PH neutral, and hassle or clog free inks. They are designed to be easy to clean even if the ink is left in a pen for an extended period of time. As of now there are three colours in the vintage series, Blue Merle, Scarlett and Oscar’s Copper. I didn't like the high sheening inks of Organics Studio. I found them distracting. But with this ink, I'm tempted to be enticed by the brand again However, the hassle free claim did not materialize. It took a day of flushing, soaking and finally pen flush to clean Lamy Safari, where the ink had taken residence for at least a month. Paradoxically, the cartridge was very easy to clean, a few flushes with a syringe and it was clean as a whistle. I put it on the colour. Pink/ Red inks are notoriously difficult to clean, they are clingy and love to stick to every nook and cranny of a pen. So my recommendation is to use this ink in a pen that can be easily dismantled and not a piston filler Lets start with the gorgeous chroma: Writing Samples: As this was a blind test, my texts are not regrettably not from Oscar Wilde. The first three samples are from The Song of Songs translated by Ariel and Chana Bloch. Note how the colour changes depending on the paper and nib size. A couple of photos: The brown ink is Yama-guri, the blue, Pilot Blue-Black. Comparison (Mystery 53 is Oscar's Copper) Watertest: A little sketch: It's inspired by Swan of Tuonela inspired from the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. I don't recall the black ink, but it could be Platinum Carbon Black. This was inspired by @LizEF 's The Adventures of Quin and Makhabesh, magical texts, aka, message papers in this episode: The text was written with glass nib, dipped in bleach: · Pens used: Lamy Safari (Reverse Ef/EF/F/M/B), Kanwrite Ultraflex, Jinhao 450 · What I liked: Multiple personality ink. Very fast dry times even with broad nibs, lovely/ chameleon colour, lovely shading · What I did not like: You might have Startup issues if the pen is left uncapped, and cleaning (It's a red ink after all, what do you expect ) · What some might not like: Same as above. · Shading: Yes · Ghosting: None, only if you insist on writing on cheap paper with wet wide nib. · Bleed through: None · Flow Rate: Wet · Lubrication: Excellent · Nib Dry-out: No · Start-up: No · Saturation: Nice brick red · Shading Potential: With wide nibs · Sheen: No · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: No · Nib Creep / “Crud”: No. · Staining (pen): No · Clogging: No · Cleaning: I had to finally resort to a pen flush twice. It took a day to clean. But the Jinhao was much easier and faster to clean. · Water resistance: Debatable 😛 · Availability: 55 ml bottles.
