There is a get-together of fountain pen enthusiasts in NYC this & every last Saturday of the month at 6PM at a store called "Goods for the Study" in SOHO at 234 Mulberry St. New York, NY. Their phone number is (212)219-2789. Sorry for the late notice this month but hopefully someone will be interested next month. Today will be the first time I'm going & I'm a little intimidated that everyone there will have collector's pieces & I don't. Wish me luck!

Hello. I'm an occasional reader on FPN who has a strong interest in handwriting and fountain pens. I am going to teach a class in February 2020 at my high school in NYC that looks at different aspects of writing. I'm hoping that my students can practice using fountain pens. Over the years I have brought in a number of my pens for them to try, and I just purchased 15 Hero 565s for them to try out. Since there's been a bit of interest, I thought I'd see if there are resources that anyone is familiar with to share with my students. Things I'm interested in doing over the course of the project: Introduce and practice writing with a variety of fountain pensPhotograph hand-painted signage around the city, building a catalog of interesting display type samplesPhotograph interesting fonts in international food markets, then use the images for inspirationVisit sign-painters in business and conduct interviews with themIntroduce and practice writing Hiragana, possibly Iroha poem (a Japanese pangram)Watching Helvetica documentary (if it doesn't put them to sleep)View Islamic writing @ the Metropolitan Museum of Art My school is located in Manhattan. We'll be traveling to the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens over the course of the class. While there are art supply stores around the city, there aren't many stores that specialize in fountain pens and fine writing. A ways back, I remember seeing on Instagram a store that was interested in sharing fountain pen resources with educators, but I didn't bookmark it or contact them. Now, at the suggestion of a few of my students, I'm going to lead a course but I don't remember their contact info. If there are any ideas or resources that people would like to share, I'd appreciate it. Maybe this thread can be the beginning of a set of resources helpful to those interested better handwriting. The link to my school is https://www.urbanacademy.org/ in case anyone is interested in learning more about what we do. Thanks!

I'm very likely going to the Pen Expo at the Fountain Pen Hospital on Warren Street on the 14th. Is anyone else attending? -
Hello, As you guys have probably guessed I am from the big apple NYC. I just inherited a bunch of old fountain pens from my grandfather. I have been doing a lot of research lately and I would love to start in this awesome hobby! I still don't have a starter pen and some ink because all of my grandfathers are very nice and some of them need repairs. but I can't wait to get my hands on something and try it out!

Nytimes Article On The Fountain Pen Hospital In Nyc
Out0Mind posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
Ladies and gentlemen, the NYTimes posted a lovely article this morning on the find folks at the Fountain Pen Hospital. Take a look below and enjoy! https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/15/nyregion/fountain-pen-hospital-manhattan.html?emc=eta1 -
A couple of weeks ago, I posted on the forums saying that I was going to NYC for work but had a few extra hours to wander about, and asked if anyone had any suggestions about where I should go. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice! One of the places I visited was CW Pencils on 100 Forsyth St. ( https://cwpencils.com ). It's a tiny shop but WOW, does it have a lot of different pencils! I asked the clerk for advice and she put out a bunch of sample pencils for me to try as well as a test notebook. I ended up buying a lot of pencils I can't wait to start sketching with. My pencils at home are horrible and scratchy and I am going give them away as soon as I can.

Hi all! I opened this account in 2013, but I've never used it. I figure it's time to fix that. Anyways, I'm a lawyer in the New York area, have been using fountain pens since high school, and post every now and again on the /r/fountainpens subreddit. My current favorite pen is a Sailor Starburst Galaxy with a music nib. I also still hold out hope that my previous favorite -- a Visconti Homo Sapiens, 25th Anniversary Edition -- will be returned to me some day. It disappeared from my bag while I was on public transit one morning. Maybe it was stolen? Maybe it fell out of my bag? I haven't decided. Both seem unlikely. In any event, part of my reason for posting now is a long-shot hope that one of you found it and have been holding it faithfully for just such an occassion. Fingers crossed, and here's a link to an announcement I made about it on Reddit. To make matters worse, it was in a black leather case when it was lost.... with a brand new Pelikan Cafe Creme. Heavy sigh. Either way, glad to join the group! I have been reading your ink reviews and pen repair tips for years, and hope to contribute my own as I learn. I just started teaching myself to restore Vacumatics, so I hope there will be some success stories to post soon!

I'm going into the city to meet friends on the UWS for a bite to eat on Sunday. Are there any pen shops you'd recommend I see while I'm there? The legendary Fountain Pen Hospital is closed on Sundays, unfortunately, Any suggestions? Is Lee's on W57 worth a visit? Thanks!

Hi there, Looking to try some new paper for my fpens and read some great reviews about Tomoe River paper. Almost all reviews mention getting it from JetPens and whereas that would be a good option, I am wondering if there are any shops in New York city that may stock this paper (or generally stock writing paper ?). Have already aclled a few art supply stores like Pearl and also AI Friedman and they do not catrry this paper. Any help would be appreciated !
