  1. Hello FPNers - I have a Sailor Pro Gear that originally came with a music nib. This nib wrote beautifully, but I don’t write music scores, so I wanted to convert it from a once-in-a-while writer to a daily writer. I hired a nibmeister to convert it to a medium nib, which turned out to be impossible because the ball tipping material wasn’t there. He reduced its size and made it smoother, but it’s not working for me at all. I’m open to suggestions, including nib replacement (is this possible on a Pro Gear?), alternate nibmeisters, etc. I don’t want to end up with a stub or anything unusual. I prefer standard medium or fine nibs, or perhaps a smooth cursive nib like Lamy offers. The Pro Gear is perfect for me ergonomically; I just need to get the nib right. Thanks, GNL

  3. Hi, This is not my first time using a flex fountain pen. I have a pilot 912 FA and a bluedew flex pen but this is my first experience a vintage flex fountain pen. I just received my a vintage waterman fountain pen (a 'new look' that is made between 1940-1950 by JIF-Waterman). According to the seller, this nib can go from EF to 2.0mm. I was experimenting the flex of the pen. And I was too stupid to actually flex it that hard and half of the tip came off from the nib. I still have the tip that is broken off. Is the pen can still be saved or is it only a piece of accessory now? 😭 Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestion.

What nibs can be used on duke 551?

The nib isn't broken or anything just writes very cheaply and overall not enjoyable any companies that you know the nib can be used on most pens or compatible with duke pens?
  5. I dropped my Metro and bent the nib. I have heard I could replace it with a Wing Sung 698 nib and should use an F. There appear to be soft and hard. Will either work? I don’t like the idea of buying another pen just to use for parts if I can just replace the parts.

    First Nib Replacement!

So, I finally attempted a nib replacement- a Zebra G nib in a Jinhao x450. I think it worked pretty darn well!
  7. Hello, fellow FPN'rs. I received my Moonman M2 eyedropper a few weeks ago and have been very pleased with it. I posted a review here. However, I just can't get used to the Extra Fine nib it came with. The nib is fine, just WAY too thin for me! So I bought a couple of nib replacements from Bobby Pen on eBay. One is a gold coloured steel FINE nib and the other a plain steel MEDIUM nib. They are cheap, so I thought if the fine wasn't thick enough, I'd just slap in the medium instead. Easy peezy right? Not so much! First, I found a YouTube video from Mr. Bobby himself, going over the process for replacing the Moonman Wancai nib which is the same process as for the M2. Here is his video: So, I prepared myself to do this carefully. I had read on Reddit where someone had a really difficult time removing the M2 nib and ended up using pliers and destroying the feed. I like to think I'm not that dumb, but I made sure I took my time and was extremely careful. At most, I'm wrecking a $20 pen, so I wasn't too scared. I took video of the whole process. It was difficult but not impossible. Using Bobby's technique of grabbing the nib by the shoulders and wiggling it side to side, I finally got the nib to start to move and was able to get it out of the feed assembly. Putting the new feed back in was dead simple by comparison. The thing that you have to really watch for is the small silicone ring at the back of the feed assembly that just falls off. It is so small and so transparent, I'm lucky I noticed it. The other thing I found was, you have to be careful about the orientation of the nib when screwing it back into the feed (as well as ensuring the back O ring is properly replaced), because the nib won't line up with the "Moonman" band if you don't put it in properly. I was able to twist the nib just enough to get it lined up again. The FINE nib is much better than the EF. I will write with this for a few weeks to see if I need to change it out for the medium. I hope not because I like the look of the gold nib over the chrome. I hope you enjoy my geeky little project!

    Montegrappa Fortuna Israel

I have a Montegrappa Fortuna Israel pen with a fine nib. I would like to replace the fine nib with a broad nib. I would appreciate recommendations on who might do this work
  9. Fellow FPNers, I recently had a terrible experience with the Montblanc nib replacement service. I purchased a F nib Montblanc 1912 and sent for a nib replacement, I left a note and confirmed with the Montblanc operator that I would like to have an extra fine nib. 10 weeks later, I finally got the pen back, to my surprise, Montbalnc got me a Oblique Medium nib instead. The current nib looks like a snow shuffle, the tipping is just flat, I wonder how can any one call that an extra fine.

    Replacement Nib For Kit Pen?

Hi all, I am new to fountain pens, and my parents gifted me a hand turned kit pen for my birthday recently. I really love the pen itself, but the nib has had some hard starting and flow issues. I was just wondering what replacement nib options I had to choose from. I have included three pictures of the nib, let me know if you need more. The graph paper is 4 squares per inch in the background. The nib says "Iridium Point Germany" and takes short international standard cartridges. Thanks for all your help, Obsidian

    Making It Skinny

I received a number of Jihnao X750 as gifts and all came with medium nibs that produce too fat of a line for my left-handed scrawl, leaving open loops closed when writing script/ I ordered abd waited for a Jinhao .38 fine nib and it is OK. But I got some Wing Sun fine nibs and find them scratchier, but leaving open loops and finer lines. How might I change -- without a lot of cost - my 7 Jinhao Medium nibs to fine. buying nibs from Goulet, etc. would cost more per item than the pens cost in lots of 5 and my budget is retired miniscule. I have never ground a nib but have seen some theoretical methods on You-Tube, own some Arkansas Stone and nib tuning grit. Any suggestions or technique you can share with this naive newbie? Where do I start, when is it finished, what are the steps to create a new tip from the blob that now makes medium lines. THNX

  13. hey all, i've seen a lot about replacing the nib in a jinhao 450 or 750 with a zebra G nib to get a flexy fountain pen, and I was wondering if the same would be possible a 599, because I'd really like a demonstrator with a flex nib. thanks for any advice!

Calligraphy Nib On A Fountain Pen?

I'm fairly new to the world of fountain pens, and I'm itching to try something with a good amount of flex that I don't have to apply too much pressure to to achieve a lot of line variation. I've tried the noodler's nib creeper, and while it of course had better line variation than a stiff nib, it really wasn't what I was looking for. I know that to get a really good wet noodle fountain pen I'd have to look for a restored vintage pen, but I really don't have anywhere near the budget for that. Given that, I had an idea. I know a lot of calligraphy nibs, although not meant for use in fountain pens, have a huge amount of flex, and I was thinking of getting a calligraphy nib and replacing the nib on one of my fountain pens with it. Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of nibs and pens to use, or want to tell me that this is a terrible idea? Any advice is appreciated!

    Camlin 3 Nib Replacement

I am a novice in the world of fountain pens, and am pretty new to repairing fountain pens. I have a red Kokuyo Camlin fountain with a '3' mark on the body, and am wondering if there is a way to replace the nib. *Note: the picture of the cap is for identification purposes.
  17. Hello, I have a Waterman Maestro which needs a new nib. Everything else is working fine, so I only need the nib. Does anyone have one to sell? I am looking for a "Fine". Thanks in advance.

Replacing Karas Ink With 18K Gold Nib

Hey! First post here, have heard some about switching out kara's ink with a different nib. I love the softness of the 18k gold nibs (my favorite is the waterman exception 18k), anyone have experience switching out kara's stainless for a different nib? Any suggestions of nibs, can i replace just the nib without the whole feed system, is this something that I can do as a DIY vs. sending to a pen meister? Thanks!
  19. Hi This is my first time asking a question and I hope you all can help. I am fairly new to working on pens. I just purchased a Shaeffer OS balance on eBay and it turns out to have a very loose nib/feed with a very hard collar holding them together. The nib/feed fits very loosly into the section. What is the best way to secure it into the section so it will not leak ink? Did the collar shrink? Can it be replaced? Can I use some adhesive? Any help is very welcome.
  20. I have got a Montegrappa fountain pen several years ago. The model is espressione , an old model with 18k gold nib. However since I got this pen, I have had the ink flow problem with some ink brands. I always want to figure it out why and want to see what is inside the nib section. Yesterday, I screw the nib section down and after a short while, I have ruined it. Like the other posts have mentioned that Montegrappa uses nibs from other nib suppliers like Bock, jowo, etc. I have checked the original nib section of the espressione fountain pen and yes it looks really like some nibs from jowo or bock. But I have never had any chance to make a comparison to see if they can be used directly on Montegrappa pen. Therefore, can any who have this knowledge please let me know which nib should I choose for the replacement ? Actually, I don't want to order the same Montegrappa nib again, because it is quite expensive. I don't care about the materials(steel nib is also ok) of the nib providing it can be used on the pen.
