    Diamine Marine

Hey there! This is my very first ink review so it's very possible that I have left out stuff. Suggestions for future reviews are very welcome! The ink I will be reviewing today is the Diamine Marine. It has been well documented, but it is such a bright, happy blue with such beautiful shading that I couldn't resist adding another to the list. Coming from the Namiki Falcon onto Rhodia, Marine is a beautifully shading ink. The colour ranges from a light turquoise to a pretty dark teal. Dry time on Rhodia is fairly extended with the ink completely drying only around the 25- 30 second mark. However, writing with a pen that has a more controlled flow yeilds a dry time of around 15- 20 seconds. The ink is not very saturated and there was no bleedthrough (and only minor showthrough) on the back of the paper after the third pass. Water resistance is negligible. Lubrication and flow are very good, as with all Diamine inks I have used. There are no start up issues even if I do leave my pen uncapped for up to fifteen minutes. I've mis-written one of the cons(oops!): it does feather on copy paper, but only very little and there is no bleedthrough. The ink is comparable to Diamine Soft Mint, but it is more blue-ish. Shading from a flex pen! Oh, on a final note, my 30ml bottle of Marine isn't the plastic I've seen in other places, but a rather more attractive glass one. Just thought it worth mentioning; hope you liked the review
  2. Many people know of the Namiki Falcon that can be purchased today with a variety of semi-flexible nibs. But Pilot apparently has been making these for a while. It's also known as the Pilot Elabo, although there was also a flexible nib on one of the Elite pens (a precursor to the Elabo/Falcon). I'd like to get one of these semi-flexible nibbed pens, but I'm wondering if I'd do better going with older models, or getting a more recent model? Anyone here have experience with both?
  3. Really contemplating on purchasing a Pilot/Namiki Falcon. Never owned a gold nib before and was wondering if you guys could help me out in selecting the right nib size. So long story short, the very first fountain pen I purchased was a Pilot DPN-70 Desk pen (almost similar to the platinum carbon desk pen). I really adore the line it lays down but it tends to be a little scratchy (i eventually smoothened it with mylar and it writes like a dream, but writes with a thicker and wetter line). I will be buying a namiki falcon but I have absolutely no idea as to which nib size I should buy, should I go for the soft fine or the soft extra fine? Is the soft extra fine nib on the namiki falcon scratchy when compared to the soft fine? I recently purchased mylar paper from goulet pens (no affiliation) and smoothened all your my nibs and I am loving how smooth they run with almost no feedback and i have got so used to it! However, I would not want to risk smoothening the nib on the falcon with mylar (if i do purchase it). I want it smooth out of the box. I write with almost light pressure (probably light to medium). So what would you suggest? Soft extra fine vs Soft fine? I have seen the writing samples on goulet pens and for me it just boils down to how comfortable the nib is, and in short it should glide across the paper with no pressure. Are there any owners of the Pilot/Namiki Falcon who own the pen in Soft extra fine or extra fine, and could share their experience with the pen in terms of: Scratchiness, feedback and smoothness? This would definitely help me in deciding on which nib size to go for! Thanks in advance!

    Quink Blue-Black Review

A simple review of one of my favourite inks (I don't have a lot, so don't judge). Also, please ignore my messy handwriting and the fact i said the Namiki Falcon was a semi-flex.
  5. Just got my burgundy Namiki Falcon <sf> back from Namiki in Jacksonville and it looks brand new. I never see the burgundy or the blue Falcon around, even on eBay. Are they still being produced and just not shipped to the U.S. Are the Blue and/Burgundy worth more or are they collector items. Thanks,
  6. Hello there, I just started writing with fountain pens and bought a Namiki Falcon with a fine point and some flexibility. The other day I rediscovered this little Morrison ring top pen that I acquired at a sidewalk sale in Berlin, Germany a couple of years ago. I tested the pen and it seems to write just fine but I have a few questions about restoration that can hopefully be answered here. There is information about this pen company on the internet but I did not find any technical data. 1. I need to install a sac but I also don't want to buy an entire collection of them to find what size fits. Can someone tell me approximately what size sac this pen would need (I'm just looking for a ballpark size) and wether or not the sack should have a neck? 2. Am I right in assuming that because the pen writes fine that I don't have to do anything to the nib/feed/section assembly? I feel confident I can replace the sac but I really don't have the skills yet to extract the nib/feed. 3. Is there anything else that I should do to this pen to bring it up to snuff? the inside of the barrel is clear of old rubber but it has some residue on it and the inside of the cap has some old ink but nothing badly crusted. Thanks, Scribe16 On the back of a standard business card: the Morrison on the left and the Falcon on the right (note my unrelaxed, shaky hand ).
  7. Hi, I was planning to buy a Namiki Falcon (resin or metal) and was wondering if I would be able to use my travelling ink pot to fill ink in it. I'm worried that the barrell size is way too small for the Visconti inkpot. Thanks in advance.
  8. I've wanted a Namiki Falcon for months but kept finding other pens to try as having to import the pen put me off due to the potential Customs charges. I found out last week that I could order a Namiki Falcon(resin) from Amazon.com and VAT/Customs charges were added on by Amazon so there would be no surprise charges when the pen went through UK customs. Using Amazons Global Shipping meant that the pen would only cost me a total of £100 and I knew that by using Amazon I had great after sales service if needed, so I went ahead and ordered one. The pen arrived Friday and so far I'm loving it, it has the new screw converter with the metal widget to help ink flow, it's very light so great for long drawing sessions and the flexy fine nib is everything I hoped it would be Waffle over the question I have is about the Namiki 3 year warranty, has anyone in the UK who has bought a Namiki Falcon(resin) sent off the warranty card or did you not bother? The card is laid out for a US address(state/zip etc) so I'm wondering if using a UK address would void the warranty anyway?
