  1. I see La Couronne du Comte is going through an exercise to cull some product lines or entire brands from its product catalogue. Some time in the past few hours, this blurb has been newly added to its Specials page: and most, if not all, of the items now listed there are now 30% off the ‘regular’ prices. It goes without saying that some of the items have less remaining stock than others. For example, as far as I can tell, there are only two bottles each of Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue with the ‘historic’ label and KWZ Ink Baltic Memories at this point, but four of KWZ Ink Warsaw Dreaming, and more of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black and Platinum Classic Ink Sepia Black. Based on my observations through having placed multiple orders in the past 24 hours, I'd say that if you put something in your cart and it gets through the checkout process alright, then it is actually in stock and ready for dispatch; the stock levels for those in-stock clearance items are updated in real time as soon as orders for them are confirmed (and paid for, I presume). For products listed with multiple options (selectable from drop-down lists in the respective product listings), as soon as a particular option for it is sold out, it gets greyed out. I'll note that it appears to me not all clearance items are listed on the Specials page at this time. I'll wager that all KWZ Ink products are getting dropped, even though only specific inks are listed. So, you may have to browse around and hunt for other ‘hidden’ clearance items that are now also offered at 30% off. Other product lines or brands that appear to be getting the cull, but this is nowhere near the complete list: Diplomat bottled inks Faber-Castell (N.B. not GvFC) bottled inks Manuscript bottled inks Pebble Stationery Co. paper and leather products Pelikan (ilo and Twist) fountain pens in the ‘school pens’ category (or just on the low end of the range) Platinum bottled inks, except Carbon Black Super5 inks and pens Waterman bottled inks Some items are still being added as I composed this post, it seems. Super5 and Waterman bottled inks weren't there when I started. Oh, before I forget, as of two(?) days ago LCdC has implemented a strict requirement for minimum order value (after discounts, and before shipping charges are added) of €50. The web shop application platform will not let you proceed if the order does not satisfy that condition.

Bleu Cuivré among other 30ml ink bottles

    From the album: Ink review

The label on the bottle of Les Couleurs du Comte Bleu Cuivré is dull and dark to the point of being illegible. I don't have any other commercial 30ml bottled ink product that's nearly quite as bad. It's a shame, because the ink itself should be comparable quality-wise to Cult Pens's Iridescink Maureen, or other inks in Diamine's own standard product catalogue.

    Bleu Cuivré swatch cards

    From the album: Ink review

Yes, yes; I'm aware I spelt the name of the ink wrong.

    Bleu Cuivré after soaking

    From the album: Ink review

The type of paper is/written on the part of the sheet shown here. See if you can read it. The paper was dumped face down in a shallow tray with about 1.5cm of water, and soaked for about 15 minutes. That it was face down did not prevent colour that washed off the ink marks from quickly staining the surrounding area.

  5. A Smug Dill

    Bleu Cuivré chromatogram

    From the album: Ink review

Done on a strip of medium-speed filter paper. I touched my Pilot Plumix M nib (whose feed was connected to a converter with the ink) to the filter paper for a second, so should give a vague idea of how much ink I deposited on the filter paper at the starting point. I'd say that were quite a bit of dye in that one little spot! Does that make the pen ‘wet’, the ink ‘saturated’, or both, or neither?

  6. From the album: First look

One of La Couronne du Comte's four shop-exclusive ink colours, which I think are produced by Diamine.

  7. I got this in email from La Couronne du Comte in a newsletter this morning: (https://www.lacouronneducomte.nl/afb/news-201903-en-dvak1_07.jpg) La Couronne du Comte - 11th Anniversary! Already 11 years ago, we started with the online sales of writing instruments. Now, 11 years after the beginning, we moved twice to a bigger store, our team has grown and we remain at your service as ever! The coming week we will have several special offers, so keep an eye on our newsletter and website. We will start with a 20% discount on our assortment this weekend...‹snip›... One could, for example, get a Pelikan M800 Stone Garden with either a Fine or a Medium nib for the effective price of €297.52 (about A$475 for us Aussies, or US$337), for direct exporting outside of the EU with free international delivery. There are also some Aurora 88 models already on special offer, to which one can apply the discount code in the newsletter. I've taken advantage of such compounding offers on pens that are listed as "SALE: LAST MODEL" in the past, and there was no delay in getting those particular pens shipped shortly after ordering.
