    Ink Review: Kaweco Royal Blue

This is Kaweco Royal Blue ink. I used it when I was reviewing the ART Sport Lapis because the ink goes nicely with that pen. My Lapis wrote straight out of the box when fitted with the Royal Blue cartridge. I had no problems with hard starting or skipping. The flow was great from the start. I also found this ink lubricated the nib very well. It's a quick drying ink, but it doesn't feel dry to write with. This ink isn't waterproof, but is quite water resistant. It doesn't stain fingers. Royal Blue is a really attractive green shade that compares well against many popular similar royal blue types. It is a really well behaved ink and I can highly recommend it as a top quality ink. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Royal Blue ink. The old and new inks are a very similar colour despite the cartridge pack colours being different. However, you can tell if you have one of the newer bottles or packs of cartridges because the name of the ink is now printed on the bottle labels or cartridge packs. Kaweco cartridges are also now impressed with the Kaweco brand name. Kaweco ink is made in Austria. It is readily available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges. All new Kaweco pens come with a Royal Blue cartridge inside their barrels.
  2. This is a review for Kaweco Caramel Brown ink. This is the latest shade of brown from Kaweco. The previous brown was called Earth Brown and it's darker. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Earth Brown ink and the older ink boxes are a darker brown colour. You can tell if you have one of the newest bottles because the name of the ink is now printed on the box. It's also on the cartridge packs and Kaweco branding is now on each cartridge. This is a pretty shade of brown ink. It's not too dark, or almost black and I like it for that. However, I found it quite dry in the Kaweco Dia2 pen that I tested it with, despite the fact that I left the cartridge in the pen for a few days to ensure that the feed was saturated enough. It felt dryer to write with than the Midnight Blue and Ruby Red inks that I have already reviewed from Kaweco. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Earth brown ink. The inks are a fairly similar colour. This ink isn't waterproof, and it doesn't stain fingers. Kaweco ink is made in Germany. It is available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges.
  3. I previously reviewed the Kaweco Brass Sport pen Here and Kaweco Summer Purple ink was the ink I used in that pen when I reviewed it. This is a separate review for Kaweco Summer Purple ink. This is the latest shade of purple from Kaweco. Their previous purple ink was called Aubergine Purple and came in a brighter purple box. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Aubergine Purple ink. You can tell if you have one of the newest bottles because the name of the ink is now printed on the box. It's also on the cartridge packs and Kaweco branding is now on each cartridge. Kaweco Summer Purple is a bright purple ink that fits it's name quite nicely. It flowed well across the page and lubricated the nib of the Kaweco Brass Sport nicely. It's a good quality ink. This ink is water based, and isn't waterproof. It's quite water resistant though. It doesn't stain fingers. Kaweco ink is made in Germany. It is available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges.
  4. I posted a review of the Kaweco AL Sport Stonewashed Blue pen in the pen reviews forum. Here. I am now adding a separate review of the Kaweco Midnight Blue ink that I used in that pen. I used a cartridge, and the AL Sport Stonewashed Blue pen has a F steel nib. Kaweco ink comes in 30ml bottles and packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges. This Midnight Blue is lighter than some other blue-black inks, but it's a really well behaved dark blue, and it has some lovely shading. It isn't waterproof, but was reasonably water resistant. I moved the water around with my finger, then blotted it off, yet I can still see ink remains. It's a reasonably saturated ink. I would say it's definitely worth considering.

    Ink Review: Kaweco Ruby Red

I have recently posted a review of the Kaweco AC Sport Red LE pen in the pen reviews forum. Here. I am adding a separate review of the Kaweco Ruby Red ink that I used in that pen when I tested it. I used a cartridge, and the Kaweco AC Sport Red LE pen has a F black, steel nib. I also used a 1.1mm steel nib in the same pen as a comparison. It looks much more saturated with the 1.1mm nib. This is an excellent red ink. It leans towards the red/pink end of the scale, which I much prefer, rather than those that lean towards the red/orange end of the scale. In fact some might suggest that Orchid Rose was a more apt description of it's colour than Ruby Red. I think it could even be described as a dark pink or cerise. It is a really well behaved ink and I can highly recommend it as a top quality ink. I should mention here that you might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Ruby Red ink, maybe even some that are sold as Orchid Rose. The inks are a very similar colour. However, you can tell if you have one of the newest bottles because the name of the ink is now printed on the box. It's also on the cartridge packs. Ruby Red cartridges come in a darker red pack than the older ink, and they now have Kaweco branding on each cartridge. This ink isn't waterproof, and it doesn't stain fingers. Kaweco ink is made in Germany. It is available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges.
  6. Kaweco sent me a Kaweco Classic Sport Red FP in exchange for an honest review, and they included a pack of Sunrise Orange ink cartridges in the box. So I thought some of you might like to see it. I have reviewed the Kaweco Classic Sport here and used a writing sample of this ink in that review. Here it is again: I gave the pen a couple of shakes after inserting the cartridge, and it wrote straight away. Sometimes you need to squeeze a little water through Kaweco Sport pens before writing with them, but I didn't do this. The ink flowed quite smoothly, and lubricated the nib quite well without a hard start or any skipping. I saw plenty of shading in the ink. It felt slightly dryer that some other inks that I have used lately, but I don't find any of my Kaweco Sport pen and Kaweco ink combinations to be wet. The orange ink colour is attractive, and isn't so bright as to be retina searing. In fact, compared with some of the orange inks I've tried before, it's quite sophisticated and restrained. The ink didn't show through on any of the papers that I tried it with, apart from the 50gsm Tomoe River, and all inks seem to show through on that paper. It didn't bleed through on any of the papers I tried it with. It dried fairly quickly on all of the papers. Comparison swab tests of orange inks: Picture of cartridge pack: Chroma tests with water for comparison. Left to Right: Diamine Marigold, Diamine Orange, Diamine Pumpkin, Diamine Sunset, Kaweco Sunrise Orange, KWZ Orange, Montblanc Ink of Joy, Montblanc Gandhi, Noodler's Operation Overlord Orange, Sailor Apricot. (Note: If you notice the ink dots on the chroma tests, this was an accident after the chroma tests were dry)

    Ink Review: Kaweco Pearl Black

This is Kaweco Pearl Black ink that I used in the Kaweco Chess Sport pen when I tested it. You can find the Chess Sport pen review Here I used a Pearl Black cartridge in the Chess Sport and it was fitted with a gold plated steel M nib. I also switched in a 1.1 steel nib as a comparison. Both nibs wrote really smoothly with Pearl Black ink. Even though I'm not a fan of black inks, I actually enjoyed writing with this one. Pearl Black is a quite saturated dark black ink. It's the blackest black ink that I have tried. It doesn't lean grey or greenish. It is a really well behaved ink and I can highly recommend it as a top quality ink. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco black ink. The two inks are a very similar colour. However, you can tell if you have one of the newer bottles or packs of cartridges because the name of the ink is now printed on the boxes. Kaweco cartridges are also now impressed with their brand name. This ink isn't waterproof, and it doesn't stain fingers. Kaweco ink is made in Germany. It is available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges.
  8. This is Kaweco Paradise Blue ink that I used in two Kaweco Sport pens when I tested them. My review for the Kaweco Chess Sport pen is Here. I used bottled ink and fitted the Kaweco Chess Sport with a 1.1 nib. I also used a cartridge in an ART Sport in Lapis Blue fitted with a standard F steel nib as a comparison. This ink looks much more saturated with the 1.1mm nib, as you would expect. Paradise Blue is a turquoise ink that leans more towards the blue/green end of the colour spectrum than the green end. It is a really well behaved ink and I can highly recommend it as a top quality ink. You might still find some older bottles of Kaweco Paradise Blue ink. The two inks are a very similar colour. However, you can tell if you have one of the newer bottles because the name of the ink is now printed on the box. It's also on the cartridge packs. New Paradise Blue bottles and cartridges come in differently coloured blue packs than the older ink, and cartridges now have Kaweco branding on them. This ink isn't waterproof, and it doesn't stain fingers. Sorry but I forgot to do the water test on the form before I scanned it. So I did it after scanning. Kaweco ink is made in Germany. It is readily available in 30ml bottles or packs containing 6 standard international sized cartridges.
