    Unusual vacumatic jewel?

I recently acquired an emerald pearl streamlined standard second generation vacumatic. At first I thought the blindcap jewel was black, but on a closer look it’s machined from the emerald pearl celluloid, but not in the usual orientation. Is this a common thing? I'll attach some photos, but it’s difficult to capture and it’s visible only from a shallow angle.

    The "Pick Pen"

Hi I am very new here, and new to pen restoration, for that reason please excuse my ignorance on the topic. I recently acquired a beautiful "Pick Pen". Everything seems great apart from the fact that the top of the cap is missing a jewel section or fennel and so the interior of the cap is open to the air when closed. Also, a part of the inside sleeve that protects the nib came loose inside the cap. What's interesting is that upon removal I noticed that the material seems to be a charcoal sleeve. It had broken up, but when placed together it makes a perfect half circle, I assume this is how it was originally inserted into the cap. Does anyone have any idea what the missing piece on the top of the cap looks like? The end of the barrel has a celluloid plug, it doesn't seem to follow the taper of the barrel and the surface is uneven and not particularly beautiful. My guess is that a similar plug was glued in the top of the cap. From my research and observation the nib seems to have a great degree of flex. Any input or advice would be helpful. Thanks Rob

    Lamy Studio Jewel Removal

I was wondering if anyone could post a detailed description or photo string to show how to remove the jewel from the lamy studio cap. My clip is loose and wiggles back and forth. I read somewhere else that this could potentially be fixed by taking the jewel off and adjusting the clip placement in the jewel. Unfortunately I can't get the jewel to move no matter what I do. I have removed the brass screw and rubber insert inside the cap but that's as far as I can get. I don't want to get to pushy with it for fear of damaging the jewel, so I haven't used any tools yet. Thanks.

    Grommet/tassie Replacement

Hi, everyone. I am very new to Esterbrook repair and have a question. Ive got a J that had a mangled barrel jewel which I removed and found out that it was a threaded jewel. The problems Im having are that the tassie (I think thats the word for the little metal trim ring) is gone and the replacement jewel I have is a press fit. Are there sources for tassies or the grommets that the press fit pens use? Any help is much appreciated. Taylor
  5. Osmia is one of my favourite makes, so I had to buy this one: a pre-war 226 even though the listing informed me that it had a Parker nib; there was a Parker connexion with Osmia so I thought it was not too bad. The pen did look very sad when it arrived and the Parker nib was an English 35 so probably from a Duofold Senior of the 1950s. I cleaned up and rebuilt the pen, but though very good of its type, the Parker nib did nothing for me. The original nib in the pen must have been huge; I thought I might remove the Supra broad nib from an 884 but despite being about No 4 size, this was too small. Luckily I also have an enormous Jewel nib, for which I had no home and it turned out perfectly. The 226 is a big pen, 13.5cm capped and wth girth to match; a pen that needs a big nib and I was fortunate enough to have one. Cob

What's The Deal With The 51's Amber Jewel?

Hi all, I've already got a Parker 51 which I enjoy using very much. I was looking at the amber jewel that I've seen on some of the 51s and wanted to know if the amber jewel signified anything in particular, or was it's placement purely for aesthetics? Thanks, Badger

Jewel Fell Off My Epoch 360

The jewel from the cap of my Epoch 360 fountain pen has fallen off. Should I glue it back on, or are there mysteries involved? Regards, Jim Crutchfield

    Vacumatic Jewel Replacement

I am not sure if this should be here or in the Repair Q&A forum. I have a fairly tatty (gouged and worn) 1935 lock down filler vacumatic. It is basically black with strong ambering and some transparency. It is missing the jewel on its blind cap. I have a cap jewel from a 1946 vac that was destroyed by glue and a hacksaw. That cap jewel is just about the right size and screws into the blind cap. It is however a little over 1MM too long. Before I make a mistake I will regret, I was wondering if anyone had advice on shrinking a black plastic jewel.
  9. Hi, I have a three pens (two still waiting for caps) that I would like to complete their restoration so I can eventually add them to the rotation. I'm looking for Esterbrook standard levers, C rings, and jewels (sm & lg). Can anyone help or suggest possible sources? Tks in advance..... Rene
