    Hello From Dubai

hi guys. just joined the "FPN" after i was looking for this pen my dad had bought back in the 90s. growing up, we used fountain pens at school. i almost always had a parker vector (which i kept on loosing) or a bunch of hero (parker 51 look alike) pens while my sister had an actual parker 51. i was going through our old boxes and came across a pen set that my dad had picked up at an expo back around 1997. it was a "pen quest 2000" all steel body ballpoint, roller ball and fountain pen. i looked it up online and it brought me to the fountain pen network where someone had posted pictures of. the one i have is slightly different but it was nice to hear that someone else also had it. i wonder how much it would be worth today. i got back into fountain pens recently and have just ordered my first "fancy" pen. ive ordered a Montblanc 146. this is after i had been experimenting with some local and chinese pens. i currently wish i had kept the fountain pens from back when i was still in school as i really miss the parker vector and the beautiful marble red piston filling waterman i had back in highschool. i didnt really appreciate them back then and i remember i had dropped my waterman on the floor and bent the gold plated nib plus i never liked how it kept on bleeding through the paper i was using at the time. considering the crappy copy paper i was using back then and the fact that the waterman was an absolute gusher. i really wish i had kept it and would have appreciated it more. ive also been experimenting with mixing inks to get more shades. mixed the apache sunset from noodlers with the run of the mill pelican royal blue 4001.....it gave me a really vibrant olive green somehow. has anyone else experimented with ink mixing? or am i just wasting the expensive inks?! haha im thinking about experimenting with food coloring and see if i can come up with some unique shades (for much cheaper price) good to be on here. hopefully i can get some of you guys to respond on this.
  2. Just got a note in the mail with this information that I found interesting in terms of a big project Anderson Pens has done with ink swabs. Looks pretty good. (I hope I selected the right forum; if Market Watch is better, I assume a moderator will move it.) http://blog.andersonpens.com/time-new-ink-swabs/?utm_source=AndersonPens+Mailing+List&utm_campaign=8f3dd768a9-April_12_2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_d365a86f6c-8f3dd768a9-80055269

An Ink Color For A New Cat

One of my many journals contains accounts of the exploits of our cats. Each cat is represented by its own color of ink. At the present time, we have only two cats, but the journal book contains entries for four, two having died in the last couple of years. I can't reassign one of the used colors until I start a new book. Here are the assigned colors so far: Furgason - Herbin's Perle Noire - matches his black coat. Tig - vintage Emerald Green Skrip - matches the catnip patch where he liked to hang out Sasha - Levenger's Cocoa - he is a streaky butterscotch color Polly - to be assigned Backstory or entries involving all current cats - Blue Black Quink Here is an example. This is Sasha. He weighs 13 pounds. He likes lap sitting and holding down the blankets on our bed. He is our Great Shaggy Beast. Someone had abandoned him in a local state park. We pulled a rescue. I use Levenger's Cocoa ink when writing about him in the journal. Here is one of his entries: Polly is a calico kitten. She is the newest member of our family. She was kittled in a horse barn and we took her in before she got stepped on. She is polydactyl, having six toes on each front foot (instead of the usual four) and a dew claw on each back foot. She has short, bandy legs and her front paws look like little catcher's mitts. She likes to play "flies and grounders" with cat kibble treats. She can catch them in mid-air with those mitts of hers. Please help me assign an ink color for this cat:
  4. I tend to use dark colors for business. Most comonly a blue or black - often a water resistant ink. For journaling, letters, notes to myself, and other non-business uses I find that I've more and more gone with a medium to darker brown. Occasionally I'll veer off and use a dark red like Widow Maker or Tianamen. There are times when I load the Sherwood Forrest or Squeteague or even a medium blue, like Noodler's American Blue. But I'd say that 50 or 60% of the time, pens not inked up for business use are loaded with one or another shade of Brown or Sepia ink. What about you? What are your recreational ink choices and, over time, have those preferences changed?
