  1. I have a bottle of Diplomat red ink. I have used it very rarely. I haven't even fully filled a converter with it... I don't like the colour but someone else might. I don't charge money for the ink, but I do need you to cover the shipping costs. I live in the Netherlands. First come first serve. Happy penning, love, Alma
  2. I just got a Visconti blue bottle as a gift, and after some googling I'm very confused because different sites have different volume label about this ink. Amazon said 60 ml, some other sites said 40ml. Here is an example of 2 sites saying different volume with the same image and same price. So I just want to ask, what is the volume of this bottle? Thank you all.

  4. Hello everyone! I wanted to share with you my little project. I decided to make for every ink bottle I have an ink reservoir. To make it happen I made 3d model and printed reservoir for Diamine 80ml, Pilot 30 ml, and Pelikan 4001 70ml bottles. Examples you can see in the photo. I'll leave here the models for mentioned bottles, but it is possible to sail the size of the model for the exact ink bottle. Also, I can scale it for exact height and diameter. It is my firs topic, so I am intersted in your opinion diamine_70ml.stl pilot_30ml.stl pelian_4001_70ml.stl

Back in September 2020, I was shopping in Daiso (and looked in Miniso, too, but it never seems to have anything suitable, and its prices are not as cheap) for some ink storage solution components, and came across this product — as well the 4 Cube Case, which is sized slightly differently. I measured both products, and this one seemed to be a good fit for 60ml bottles of Platinum ink, if I decide to discard their cardboard retail boxes but still want to stack them high in storage. At the time, the store had ample stock of both products, so I figured I wasn't in a hurry to decide or buy; and my focus was on other things on the day. A month later, when I revisited the store for the third or maybe fourth time, it looked to me this product may have been discontinued, even though there was still plenty of units of the 4 Cube Case; the shelf space originally allocated to this has already been repurposed with other plasticky bits and pieces of display stands. Given that there are two other Daiso stores within walking distance, I wasn't too worried; and when I visited another store (slightly further away than the one in Sydney CBD), it had ten or so units of these, which was relatively many. Phew! This could wait. On my next visit, the two shown were the last units on the shelf, and seemed to have been left behind only because they were displaced and obscured by some other products of the sort; so, not that I have any immediate use for these right now, but I pulled the trigger on the spot.

    Ink Bottles With Reservoirs

I was looking for a new ink last night and found myself continuously coming back to Sailor Jentle Black. Now, I am sure that this is a fine ink, but I already have four black inks and to be honest four is about two too many. The reason that I kept coming back to Sailor was not because it is a particularly amazing black, but rather because the bottle just happened to have an ink reservoir in it. As much as I would like to try some Sailor inks I have to admit that if they did not have the reservoir in their bottles, then I would not be nearly as interested. Ink reservoirs are great little devices that help to make using bottled ink an easier process. They make filling pens less messy, they make using all of the ink in a bottle much easier, and they are just plain nifty. Ink reservoirs are great devices and should absolutely be in more bottles (I'm looking at you, J. Herbin). The very first ink bottle that I ever purchased (Pen & Ink | Sketch No-Shellac India Black) had an ink reservoir in it, and I have to admit that when I bought another ink I was pretty disappointed that it did not also come with a reservoir. Since then I have come to understand that ink reservoirs are the exception rather than the rule, and any time I find an ink with a reservoir included I become inexorably drawn to it. Which is why I found myself staring at a black ink that I would have had no real interest in otherwise. I ended up passing on the Sailor Jentle Black, but I DID buy an empty Sailor Jentle bottle from iSellpens.com (I plan on putting some of my Noodler's Heart of Darkness into it). I have never been interested in buying empty ink bottles, but it seemed like the lesser of two evils to me, and I now have very little interest in spending money on an ink that I don't really need. So, I am interested to know how many other folks out there have an obsession with ink bottles containing reservoirs. I can't be the only one. What are your favorite reservoir containing bottles? Would you ever consider one ink over another simply because one of them had a reservoir? To get things rolling here are a list of all of the inks (that I am aware of) which include reservoirs in their bottles: Akkerman Levenger Mont Blanc (the long bottles) Pen & Ink | Sketch Pilot (70ml bottles) Platinum (there three standard inks) Sailor Jentle Sheaffer Skrip (vintage bottles) TWSBI (Not an ink, but they do make a reservoir containing ink bottle) http://www.carpediemstore.com/mCustomPage/images/AAINDIAINK.jpg http://static2.jetpens.com/images/a/000/019/19851.jpg?s=0f16f7d983a13d62105460a6a912018d http://www.levimage.com/IMAGE/Web/Product/Pen_Ink/Refills/PR1420_paLEVINK_s1.jpg
  10. Hi folks, Here's a method to fit a syringe needle over a piston converter to suck the very last drop of ink from an ink bottle. rgds kenneth PS: Forgot to add, this method doesn't require a syringe that would take up extra space in your pen case. It's also one less item to clean. In any case, choose your favourite method :-)

    Coolest Ink Bottles?

Hey Y'all, Now, I know this is a very nebulous question, and that's why I'm asking it! I love hearing everyone's opinions and thoughts. What Ink has the coolest looking bottle? I think the Caran D'Ache ink bottles look really cool, but I also like the Pilot Iroshizuku bottles! -Charles
  12. I don't know if it's just the UK but there seems to be a lack of fountain pen suitable ink wells/bottles. Out of the 7 bottles of ink I've presently got on the go, 3 are from J. Herbin, meaning that for most of my fountain pens it will be near impossible to fill them once the ink is down to about 50-60%. Now aside from getting hold of empty Lamy ink bottles, can anyhone recommend any suitable purpose made wells ? I already have a TWSBI ink bottle and that works well (especially as I can fill my Diamond 580 through the adapter), but don't want to be be spending £23-25 each time I need a new one for another ink.

Hello From Denver! Lot's Of Pictures!

Hello everyone! I'm Mike. I live in Denver, Colorado! About a year and a half ago I moved back to Denver (and the U.S. for that matter) from Australia. I am an engineer and was working in the field. Now that I have an office role I've dropped the field pencil and picked up the fountain pen...and I'm LOVING it! As engineers do, I've been researching to no end, learning as much as I can. I'm really glad I found FPN as it has been an incredible resource (unlike many forums out there...)! I also happen do be big into photography as a hobby! The Visconti Michelangelo rollerball was my first nice pen and it is what got me into writing more. I then found FPN and started lusting after many fountain pens and have since picked up a Lamy 2000 and a Visconti Homo Sapiens MIDI. Now I just need to practice my penmanship so I stop looking like I'm 4 years old. Here are a few photos and some non-pen related of Colorado too! _DSC1109 by Michael Patterson, on Flickr _DSC1110 by Michael Patterson, on Flickr _DSC1112 by Michael Patterson, on Flickr

  15. If you bumped against an Edwardian gentleman in a London street around 1910 and felt an unusual bulge in his pocket, it may have been one of these, a "Swan fountfiller for travellers": http://i.imgur.com/e770hFH.jpg The design is possibly inspired by London post boxes. The material is lightweight wood. The top unscrews to reveal, Russian doll like, an ink bottle inside: http://i.imgur.com/y3WDCi9.jpg The ink bottle is sitting on a spring mechanism, so that it pops up when you unscrew the wooden top. The ink bottle can then be lifted out. There's a printed reminder on the spring platform to buy a replacement bottle of Swan ink: http://i.imgur.com/ZZrMenJ.jpg The ink bottle itself has a hardened and unusable bulb and the top is gummed shut with dried ink, but is otherwise in nice condition: http://i.imgur.com/nHXQSCy.jpg Closed, it measures 12cm base to tip. Note the slight problem on the top of the lid which is going a bit bald where the red paint is flaking off: http://i.imgur.com/yi9Oc7Z.jpg The Swan trademark logo on the back - your guarantee of quality: http://i.imgur.com/C1e7BhJ.jpg
  16. Help Me Identify This Cross Inkwell!

Hi fellow FPN'ers, Does anyone of you guys know what kind of model this Cross inkwell is, and probably the history? I think the cap is made of 18ct (14ct?) gold and the bottle of glass (?) The weight of the inkwell is 700 grams, so very heavy! The inkwell had a price tag of 395 euro and was found in a closet in our office, nobody knows how its ended up there! Thanks for the comments!

    Ink Wells

Hello all I recently purchased some spice bottles that I had believed were airtight. This was prompted by a post on a previous thread, advising that the Diamine/Chesterfield Archival Vault Permanent black should be stored in Glass due to chemical interaction with the original plastic bottle. I transferred two colours to the aforementioned glass bottles, put the stopper on and was happy with the result. Later I had the opportunity to ink a pen from the Archival Vault ink, and aside from the bottle being too wide (or there ot being enough ink in the bottle :-) ) all worked well. On the weekend I notices condensation on the inside of one of the bottles. On investigation, I discovered that the seals on these bottles were not airtight, and they also leaked when tilted too far. Ok, After a long story, here is the question. Is it necessary for inkwells to be airtight? I see all kinds of bottles out there with cork stoppers and I am wondering what characteristics, combine to make the perfect ink bottle/well? Stu
