  1. Hello. I'm wondering what dip pen nibs should a beginner that is serious about learning purchase? I'm okay with spending a decent amount of money if the quality justifies the price, considering I don't plan on randomly dropping the hobby and I'm absolutely *determined* to get good at calligraphy. Also: Does it matter what nib holder I purchase? If so, what would you guys recommend (for both a straight holder and an oblique holder)? Thanks in advance for any responses. =)
  2. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Maruman x Somes A4 leather notepad holder (Amazon link)? I'm wondering whether it is worth the price (it can be found on ebay as cheap as $275).
  3. Introducing the Canada Day Limited Edition holder. This holder will be available from July 01 to July 07 (Saturday). Only 18 will be made (please limit 2 per order). 4. Hi, I present you my last dip nib pen holder hand-made by Renée Meeks (Scriptorium Pens) and my first hand-engraved by myself using drypoint technique. Where it should be the ink holder (if it were a fountain pen), there's an empty space to hold other dip nibs :-D Here are two videos of it with my mobile :-) Sorry for the shaking video, but I've thalassemia and it's really hard to keep my hand steady (I had to place the phone against my chest to stabilize it). Let me know what you think of it ;-)
  5. Hi to all, I'm an artisan specialised in hand-crafted watches and leather accessories from Barcelona and I'l like to introduce my new series of Traveler Fountain Pen Pouches. As a keen traveller I've always carried in my bag the travel journal along a bottle of Iroshizuku ink and a Lamy. For a while I just had both the pen and the ink inside a plastic, zip bag but started to wonder how could I keep my pen in a more stylish way, specially if I took with me not the Safari but the M1000 or the Falcon... So after few iterations and thousands of km travelled I'm really happy with the result: The outer layer is made out from genuine Horween Chromexcel horse hide leather, incredibly durable and with a beautiful pull-up effect and patina. Available in Black, dark Brown and Burgundy (No 8) they are to my opinion one of the best leathers to work with, really supple, silky and durable. Regarding the lining I use only the best Spanish goat leather which is incredibly smooth, available in a wide range of beautiful colors and will prevent the pens's plating or lacquer from rubbing/wearing. Then when it comes to stitching, I only do saddle stitching by hand using the highest quality waxed thread again in any colour (although I recommend to match the stitching with the lining for that "extra quality"). The picture attached features a Chromexcel Dark-Brown pouch with violet lining and fucsia stitching tailored to fit the M1000 but you can order yours in a generic size or request the case to be tailored to fit an specific pen at no extra cost (since all the unique pieces are crafted as ordered, there is no difference for us between tailored or generic size other than versatility to hold a range of pens). You can purchase them directly through my Etsy store or just contact me at info@monotimepieces.com for any combination that doesn't appear on the page https://www.etsy.com/es/listing/602887591 Kind regards, B
  6. Hi everyone! I usually carry something like 5 spare cartridges in their orginal packaging in my backpack wherever I go. Problem is, after a while of being in there, the cardboard packaging more or less gets destroyed. Does anyone know of a company that makes a hard carry case for international long (or short for that matter) cartridges? Has somebody thought of a clever solution to this? I can't believe I would be the only one with this problem! Thank you all very much in advance! - 3nding

    Best Pen Case?

Hi! I'm starting to build my collection, but want to take multiple pens out with me, how ever, as I am a student, I don't want to be lugging around a large case to keep my pens safe. So what would you guys suggest, I'm after a small(ish) case, which can hold 3 pens which will protect them from becoming scratched or crushed within my bag. Hopefully something like this exists. If not, anything similar will help. And all answers appreciated. Many thanks Tom
  8. I'm thinking of buying a clutch pencil to do some art/ illustration work. Currently contemplating a Kaweco Sketch Up 5.6, and three Koh-I-Noor models 5228, 5201 for 2mm leads and a 5340 for 5.6 leads. Anyone has any of these? How good are they? Any other recommendations?

I am offering a small selection of these premium holders just in time for your Christmas shopping. These are all ready to ship and available in my Etsy store at: Expressions Art Shop 1-1 & 1-2 - These are my 'short-form' holders. These 4.5 inch holders are carved from Cherry with Zebrano and Rosewood accents in the grip area and Bubinga in the finial. Although short, they feel like full sized holders in the hand. ($120 for the set) Sold 2 - This 'Swan' holder is carved from Cherry. It was a challenging project but I am happy how it turned out. ($140) 3 - This 'Tulip' holder is carved from Bloodwood and Tree of Heaven. ($140) Sold 4 - This classically styled holder is carved from Olive wood for the grip area and Bubinga for the shaft. Two Brass ring accents are placed where the two woods join. The finial is separately carved from Curly Maple and Ebony. ($140) 5 - This holder combined light and dark Walnut and sports a triangular grip. It will suit users with a modern grip who like to hold their pen high. ($120) Please feel free to browse my Etsy store or PM for purchase or custom orders. - Salman
  10. Hi all - it is time for another workshop. This time I am going to go over the process of carving a holder with basic tools. All supplies will be provided. You just need to show up with some enthusiasm and walk home with a holder crafted with your own hands. I am going to demonstrate the complete process with the participants following along at each step under my guidance. We will only be using basic tools like knives, files and pliers so no special skills are required. I am looking forward to seeing some FPN'ers there. Oh - and the details are at: wonderpens.ca - Salman

    Clip Pen Holder

For father's day my wife kids got me a new portfolio from Etsy. I love the thing but the only "problem" with it is that it only has two sleeves for pens, and they're quite narrow sleeves. They're leather, so they'll eventually stretch, but until then I'm looking for some sort of not-too-expensive leather holder that I can clip on the outside to hold a couple of more pens. The closest I've seen has been the Midori pen clips but I don't know if those are really just designed for the thin'ish Midori leather. Does anyone have any suggestions, recommendations and/or guidance? As always, the group's help is really appreciated!
  12. I'm not sure if anyone has posted something like this before but I was recently given an e-cig case by someone who thought I'd find a use for it...I did The case is fairly hard on the outside and closes with a zip, on the inside there are a couple of elastic loops and a little net basket. The loops are a perfect size for 2 pens which means you can carry at least 4 pens or 6 at a squeeze. The cases can be picked up on ebay pretty cheaply and offer more than enough protection for carrying pens about, the case I have can comfortably hold a Lamy Safari AL with about 1/2 inch room above. Outside: Inside: I think with some customisation these cases could be cheap but sturdy options for carrying pens.
