    First Post, First Pen

Hi. This my first post so please be gentle. I have just taken my first faltering steps into the world of vintage fountain pens with the purchase of an old Sheaffer that I bought from Ebay. The seller described it as a Lifetime pen but not sure if this is correct or how old it might be. It looks to be in good visible condition (I understand it belonged to the seller's father for it's entire life) however it is apparent that it won't fill so I assume that the sac is either damaged or absent. I have tentatively tried to remove the nib section to inspect the interior of the pen but it seems pretty stuck fast. I have also had a look at the guidance on this forum for the disassembly of old pens so will explore this further in due course. Can anyone advise what size sac this pen should take? I live in New Zealand where (to the best of my knowledge) there are no pen parts suppliers so I'll need to order from the US and don't want to wait 2 weeks for the wrong size! Many thanks. RA.
  2. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls - I'm trying to identify the nib thickness for this burgundy "51." At first I thought it was a wet, wet medium nib, but I'm starting to wonder if it might actually be broader than the average medium. Rhodia paper, with a fine on the right. Any help or insight would be much appreciated!

    Snorkel Admiral

If I never saw another Snorkel, I'd be happy. I have been trying to restore an Admiral today and I can't get it to fill. I've replaced the "O" ring, the point seal, checked the barrel for cracks, and made sure that the snorkel tube isn't blocked. Can anyone help please? This isn't my first Snork restoration, but it has been challenging right from the get-go, I even had to simmer the sac guard for a while to soften up the ossified sac. Could the problem be with the sac section? It did get a bit chewed up when I was opening up the crimped top part of the sac protector. Snorkels and Vacs are why I LOVE lever fill pens.

    Pricing Pen Boxes

I have been making boxes for a little while now, I mainly make them for my own pleasure and as physical therapy following an accident. I have been asked on a couple of occasions if I would make some to sell, I am not looking to make a large number of boxes or a huge profit . So as the title suggests my question is how much to charge for these boxes they are hand made with oak and plywood which is then covered with quality veneer, The interior is lined with leather or suede. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5442/9143859098_9fa7d19a20_z.jpg IMG_3937_1 by my0771, on Flickr If you are interested these are my box making threads https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/227365-little-boxes/ https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/224142-writing-slope-dilema/ I advertised tis box in the classifieds section for $75 it generated a little interest in other boxes but did not sell I thought about lowering the price or offering free postage although this could wipe out any profit. I would value your opinions Thanks Michael
