  1. Hello FPNers, I’m a huge fan of shading inks but dislike sheening inks. In the blue-teal-green spectrum (and nowhere else), can you recommend high shading inks that have no sheen? My current champion blue is Colorverse Supernova and my current champion green is Diamine November Rain. But there have to be more! Again, only in the blue-teal-green spectrum. Thanks! Gary
  2. De Atramentis BOOKWORM scented ink Is it an Ink or is it a Stink? http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/Ink%20Bottle%202%20FPN_zpszy5wrsrs.jpg Dear FPN Friends I am a great fan of De Atramentis http://www.de atramentis.comthe small family run business of the utterly passionate and friendly Dr.Franz- Josef Jansen. This company produces over 255 hand inks.... HANDMADE in GERMANY Until now I was not really a fan of scented inks... But er that has changed abruptly now.... why... Well as some of you might know from my profile I am a READING ADDICT and an INKOHOLIC.... De Atramentis has made a lovely dark green ink with the smell of OLD BOOKS AND ANCIENT LIBRARIES... that is like heroine to a drug addict http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/reading%20room%20and%20book%20worm_zpsts0ik79k.jpg Our little reading room and a detail picture of one of our bookshelfs ( a bit of a language mess books are in Dutch, German and English ) De Atramentis Bookworm Ink http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/Bookworm%20drawing%20FPN_zpscwojim6y.jpg Sorry I am not a great artist my Bookworm at the bottom looks more like the kind of " worm" that gets women pregnant and produces children The text on the book does neither express my personal believes nor my political views... In my humble opinion there is no room for that here. It is also NOT meant to offend people in anyway... I saw it merely as a practical joke But maybe it inspires people to read more books and may be it inspires people to do some more critical thinking and helps people to looks at hings from different angles and perspectives.... Welll that is a good thing after all I guess http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/Bookworm%20sampler%20FPN_zpszp6fuqly.jpg own here are some of the technical specs (as suggested by Ann Finley 2007) (not copied in but for this ink) points 1-5 1 = 5= Fountain Pens: Online Best Writer 0,8 italic nib, Kaweco Calligrapy Classic Sport 1,5 Italic Paper: Vleveka Classic Line Paperand ordinary copying paper Drying time: EXTREMELY FAST nib points 5 Flow: very smooth even in both the cheap and potenitally scratchy Dip Pens points: 5 Lubrication: wet points: 5 Feathering : None points 5 Bleeding: nada points 5 Shading: AWESOME points: % Waterproof: goof points: 4 Package: only i glass bottles Availabilty: De Atramentis http://www.de-atramentis .com For the Sake of Humanity I ho e that these inks will be available all over the world and it's surroundings SOON! Maybe I write the always friendly Rik and Dennis of http://la.couronneducomte.nl an E-mail..... They are always willing to help us FPN-ers Rik told me no problem what you need we can almost always order it The Colour Deep dark green. I would call it pine forest green or moss green... Just lke i called the green of the De Atramentis Jane Austen Ink https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/262586-lovely-liquids-de-atramentis-jane-austen-green/ Ink Vomit on a normal paper with a bit of a blowjob http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/Ink%20vomit%202%20FPN_zpsriq10u0y.jpg Ink vomit on kitchen paper http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/ink%20vomit%20FPN_zpsvik14vw2.jpgWaterproof Comparion of D-A Bookworm and D-A Jane Austen http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/comp%20jane%20bookworm%20FPN_zpsmx3ttipd.jpg It appears to me that the basis of the Jane Austen and the Bookworm is similar.... Colours are very much a like... But beautiful in my opinion The Scent Does this ink has a nice smell.... In my opinion YES!!! OLD BOOKS!!!. I can Imagine that this is not to everyones liking. The scent is very decent though. After a few days there is only as smell left if your nose is close to the paper.... This make it suitable for everyday work.... Only the Connaisseur will know Ink Behaviour http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/De%20Atramentis%20Bookworm/Bookworm%20Handtest%20FPN_zpsikfisqfs.jpg The ink behaves excellently.... No feathering at all. Showthrough is very little and is even acceptable withbroader nibs The inks is very wet and smoot but very quickly drying.... Maybe this is an ink you should consider if you are a lefthand writer.... Because of it's wetness and excellent lubrication the writng experience is very smooth... Even in potentially scratchy (0.8 italic) nibs Waterproof This ink had a 1-hour Jacques Cousteau diving experience in a bowl of water.... Although the colour and the scent have vanished..... The words are completely and utterly legible.... Another reason why this ink is excellent for work Verdict This is my first scented ink and I like it. As a reading addict it is sort of a musthave . The colour is very much a like of that of the De Atramentis Jane Austen.... (but with a little extra haha) A lovely dark green..... I it Regards Peter
  3. Lovely Liquids "De-Atramentis Jane Austen" Dear FPN friends, this is my first ink review so I believe it is not perfect by far... If you have any suggestions on improving my review skills I will be delighted to hear so. I have added a high res scan and I hope it is acurate and that the colours are as lovely as in my "live view" The scan is my hand written review and I hope you can see the beaty of the ink in there, sorry for my handwriting it is still a bit "spastic fantastic" but I will work on that in the future. Down here are some of the technical specs (as suggested by Ann Finley 2007) points 1-5 1 = 5= Fountain Pens: Parker Premier medium nib: Lamy Joy 1,5 Italic Paper: Leonardo Ringbuch, average quality school note book made in Austria Drying time: Approx. 7-10 seconds with a medium or 1,5 italic nib points 3 Flow: Like a river during a monsoon points: 5 Lubrication: smooth in both pens points: 5 Bleeding: quite some on the average quality paper I used points: 3 Shading: some points: 3-4 Waterproof: Still very legible after several finger tips rubbed ont the written text of water points: 4 Package: Only in bottles,Wide opening for easy filling up points: 3-4 (bottle is quite nice but the not very special, although the label is beautiful) Availabilty: In Europe Good, D-A webshop, Amazon, La Couronne Du Comte (NL), USA Brian Goulet but not all 255 inks points: EU 4 USA??? Quality: Hand Made in Germany points: 5 I just love this ink. the colour is dark green which makes it suitable for daily work as long as the documents are not "too official" (I guess you use blue or black document ink in that case). The colour is moss green. It has a lovely ancient touch to it, like in old 19th century of pre WWII letters. I always have one of my Fountain Pens filled with this lovely liquid (and I only have 7 Fountain Pens and since I have 10 inks I MUST really LOVE it ) Hope you enjoyed the review and that it was usuable for you. Next review D-A Document Blue and Dark Blue... Amazing stuff Bullet and Bombproof!!! Kindest Regards Peter Vlutters
  4. Pimp-my-Ink-Comparison Pelikan Edelstein Aventurine vs Pelikan 4001 Brilliant green http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/20150529_095904_zpsl1rrqmpa.jpg Pimp-my Ink... What is that??? There are certain companies that produce several lines of ink. They every now and then put a special line of inks on the market. For example Faber Castell vs Graf von Faber CastellPelikan 4001 vs Pelikan EdelsteinInk of the year etc... Like J Herbin'sWhat are the differences Fancy packiging(slightly) changed recipeother coloursmore saturationand of course a HIGHER PRICENot every point will be aplicable on any ink but just to give you an Idea of the possibilities. Is this a good developement. That depends on how one looks at it I guess. Packaging is usually beautiful. And there is a greater selection of inks to choose from which is always good Yes the ink may be slightly different but bear in mind.... The manufacturer is the same and usually it's suppliers are the same too. For the rest I will have a look at it ink by ink. and brand by brand. In order to apply for this Pimp-my Ink comparison.... There must be a price difference between the inks of the same manufacturer. A theme ink named after a person i.e but offered atr the same price as the other inks of the manufacturer will be excluded Noodlers and De Atramentis i.e. have a lot of specialty named inks but the prive isthe same, only the ink(colour) is/may be different Well that is a lot of text so let's go..... FINALLY Pimp-my-Ink-Comparison Pelikan Edelstein Aventurine vs Pelikan 4001 Brilliant green http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Aventurin%20Brilliant%20gree%20hand%20written%20comp_zpslubrfoza.jpg This is a comparison of handwritten texts taken from the original extensive review of each ink seperately Pelika 4001 Brilliant green https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/266092-pelikan-4001-brilliant-green/&sa=U&ei=nFZoVeeCI8OXygSBtYPYAw&ved=0CAgQFjAB&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNEV1OhJ-A5hwpf0TBm-YdRdOaNs_g Pelikan Edelstein Aventurine https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/291416-pelikan-edelstein-aventurine/ http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Pelikan%20Aventurine%20Comp%20FPN_zpsohke7aos.jpg There are differencse in colour of course. But the difference is not always that explicit, which can be seen when the ink blots in the picture above are compared There of course are difference... This is also what the coulour picker comparion in Photshop shows. Pleas notice the differnet CMYK and RGB Stats, down here http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Aventurine%20Brillinat%20grad%20and%20pick%20comp_zpsgrt3wskn.jpg Well that is quite obvious... But let's do some more comparisons. http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Aventurine%204001%20Vomitus%20FPN_zpsqfabzvqp.jpg Of course hhere are colour difference too here, but they are less expressive as before. Especially if you have a closer look at the written texts in this pictures. Each text was written with the corresponding ink. http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Avenurine%204001%20Blow%20comp%20FPN_zpszchyches.jpg Both colours are nice in my opinion Ink Behaviour and characteristics Here I will have a closer looks at the things I usually test in an ink http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Avenr%20Brilliant%20smapler%20comp_zpsmf01n8ks.jpg Shading behaviour is the same. Not to epressive and dependant on nib and paper usedDrying time is exactly the same 5 seconds in a finer nibBleedthrough, Feathering, and Showthrough are absent in both inksLubricaton and wetness are the identical (I especially checked for this review) Waterproof. As can be seen in the right sampler sheet the ink survives a drop of water. But let's how it holds it's liquour in my usual Jacques Cousteau Diving experiment for inks http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Pelikan%20edelstein%20Aventurine/Pelikan%20Aventurinn%20Waterproof_zpsttokzelk.jpg Well this was the Aventurine but believe me that the 4001 behaved just the same. This was the result that almost instantaneously happend after a few seconds.... Is this a problem??? For me not this is not meant to be a waterproof nor permanent ink. It is just that there are inks which are not meant to be waterproof nor permanent which will remain legible after a bath http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Waterman%20Havana/Havana%20WH2%20Cousteau%20comparison_zpsba51mtcw.jpg In this example of De Atramentis Wilhelm 2 (taken from my reviewhttps://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/290183-de-atramentis-clark-wilhelm-2-my-favourite-ink-maker-and-my-favourite-history-teacher-in-one-review/) the colour is gone but the lines are still legible.... More inks i.e some Sailor have this quality too. It is not because of the brand thoughThe De Atramentis Khaki is not waterproof at all either. Hey they survive a drop these Pelikans. Just be careful.... I survive a drop too but not half an hour under water Availability This is one of those inks that is even available on the moon, simply hijack a passing space craft.... But since you and I most probably will not get to the moon that often (at least I don't)... I will give you some adresses here La Couronne du Comte I guess Dennis and Rik would even travel to the moon to get it for you (just pay them a million or 2 ) Well it is safe to say that they do almost everything to satisfy their customers http://www.lacouronneducomte Bankers have Rothshield; Ink lovers have The Goulet Pen Company. Rachel and Brian carry the almost* largest assortiment of ink on earth an it's near surroundings http://www.gouletpens.com *almost Dear Amberlea Davis carries the largest assoritment in the universe but is not a seller To Conclude. Prices (taken from the La Couronne Du Comte website in Euros) Pelikan Aventurine bottle 50 ml €13,95 / $15,20 price pro ml. €0,28 / $0,30 Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Green bottle 30 ml €3,95 / $ 4,30 price pro ml. €0.13 / $ 0,14 exchange rates taken from wiselkoersen.nl on may 29, 2015 Difference pro ML is € 0,15 Is this ink better, Is this ink worth the money or spending extra??? What a product is worth depends on what you the client are willing to pay. Is a Montblanc 149 worth € 765 . Is that MB pen that much better than a Pelikan M1000 for € 595? It is all dependant on what you think it is worth... You can get an excellent Fountain Pen between 50-150 dollars... But sou can also buy a special one you love for over 5000 dollars... That is the same with these inks.... Paying more does not obligatory mean you get better ink. Is this Edelstein ink better than the 4001 ink... In my opinion NOT! The only difference is the colour and the packaging, the behaviour is almost identical.... So if you need an execellent ink for a nice price go for the 4001 ink. My Opinion I love Pelikans, I love both inks and love that fancy bottle of the Edelstein.... Aventurine for me it is worth it.... . And will buy al Edelsteins in the future I hope this was informative... Will do more of these formats in the future... i.e. Herbin standard vs Herbin 1670 Regards Peter
