  1. Fountain Pen Day is a week from today. I made an impulsive purchase last night. I ordered a Franklin-Christoph model 45L in a color that went away. That has made a Fountain Pen Day purchase iffy for me. Then I remembered a topic posted by @amberleadavis about fountain pens at Five Below that would seem to be a budget-minded price. I expect I’ll shop there on Fountain Pen Day, even though the store won’t be celebrating it. I usually get a chocolate cake to celebrate FPD. I suppose I still could. Do you have any plans for Fountain Pen Day 2022?

  4. I very nearly lost my Pelikan M800 Renaissance Brown today, which would have been a terrible way to celebrate Fountain Pen Day. I'm at a medical meeting in Austin, and when I got up to leave the afternoon session, I stopped by the silent auction to see what they had. A former president of the organization is a rather skilled kit pen maker, turning out some beautiful finishes, and he has about a dozen of them in the auction, along with a couple of bottle of Iroshizuku ink. I told the ladies there that it was fountain pen day, and got my case out to show then the M620 Grand Place and the M800 Renaissance Brown I was carrying today. Imagine my horror when the M800 was missing! I went directly back into the meeting room and found it under the chair in front of where I had been sitting. With a huge sigh of relief, I went back out to show it to the ladies. If it hadn't been for those kit pens I had noticed, I probably would not have recovered the Pelikan. So don't ever let anyone tell you that kit pens aren't good for anything! I am tempted to go back and buy one of them out of gratitude. I already have bottles of Take-sumi and Kon-peki, so I don't think I will bid on any of the ink.
  5. What's happening around "International Fountain Pen Day this year. It's coming up shortly and I, for one, have seen nothing about it mentioned. Did I miss something here on FPN? I know one can find information at http://www.fountainpenday.org/ including what looks like a lot of sponsors (more Pen - Day deals???). It would be nice to hear if anyone is doing something really special or unique this year. Or, if you had a nice experience in the past. Thanks for sharing the information.

A Day Late And A Holiday Short?

Below is pictured the pen I made for fountain pen day. I know... that was yesterday. I made it yesterday. I'm just not telling anyone until now. (I'm a day late) The other catch is that the pen was one I started last Halloween and lost interest in. I decided to finish it this year.. yesterday... about a week late for the holiday. So I'm disorganized... what can I say. Anywho, the pen is pretty cool. Its about the fattest that I have made yet. The section is around 14.25mm. The threads cap to body are 16mm. It is around 5 1/2" long capped and 5 1/4" long uncapped. It is a cartridge converter fill. It can be converted into and eyedropper and comes with a screw in k6 converter. The cap doesn't post it is meant to be left off while you handle the big fat pen . It comes with your choice of steel JOWO nib EF, F, M, B, 1.1, or 1.5. It will be available tomorrow on Ebay (I know I need a website). I would take $125 for it. If you are interested send me a private message. Otherwise Tomorrow night it will be on Ebay (www.jandjwooddesigns.com) for $149.99. Thanks for looking. Questions and comments always welcome.
  8. It's time for me to reduce my ink sample collection. Since International Fountain Pen Day is next week, and because I've appreciated the PIFs on FPN in the past, I've decided to give away a bunch of ink samples. I have 29 samples picked out so far and I might add another one or two before a winner is chosen. Many of the samples have been tested; some are completely unused. They range from about 1ml to several ml. All should have enough for AT LEAST one fill; some will have enough for 5-6 fills. Brands included: Noodler's, KWZ, Pelikan, Private Reserve, J. Herbin, Faber-Castell, Akkerman, and Rohrer & Klinger. The details: List yourself in this thread to enter. I'll choose a winner by random number generator on Fountain Pen Day (Nov. 4) and consider all entries as of the time I get around to drawing a number. I'll post the screen name of the winner on here and PM the winner to get mailing information.Free postage within the US.International entrants agree to pay the difference between US postage cost and the actual international shipping cost (if it's noticeable--otherwise, I'll just cover it).

  22. Hi! Okay, so last year I was all set to do something for fountain pen day, then couldn't (stuff got in the way), so I made a firm decision to get involved this year - then promptly forgot all about it until just now At such short notice, the only decent thing I can come up with is to use the day for a possible meet up of FPNers and other fountain pen users, nerds, collectors, tinkerers, and assorted folk in the Athens, Greece area. Anyway, this meeting won't be anything fancy (short notice and all!), but anyone who's into fountain pens is welcome, newbie or old-timer, including those who don't actually live here but are visiting or just passing through To keep things simple, I thought I'd just park myself on a table in the Starbucks on Mitropoleos and wait - nice central location to make getting there as easy as possible, and guaranteed smoke-free so we can natter without getting choked up by the inveterate chain-smokers crowding every other coffee shop in the Athens area I'll show up at six o'clock and stay a couple of hours. If you want to take part, come over any time during So, to sum up: What: fountain pen people get together in Athens, GreeceWhen: Friday November 1st, show up 6-8pmWhere: Starbucks, the Monastiraki branch - corner of Mitropoleos and Aiolou (Out-of-towners, here's how to find the place; If you're taking the metro you need the MONASTIRAKI stop)See ya there!
