  1. After seeing a Jinhao x750 after being sanded down, I got curious. Recently, I sanded down a Parker Urban (2016 model) after the pocket clip broke off. I would like to dedicate this thread to the fountain pens that have had their finish removed. Please post pictures of your pens that have been sanded down or have had their finished scratched to oblivion. I'll start with my Parker Urban. Please post the pictures and the name of the pen.

    Nakaya Info Kuro Tamenuri Finish

I am right now in the market for a Nakaya pen. Specifically the portable writer and I want to get some more information about the finish of the pen before I feel comfortable buying it. The main question I have is really about how the finish looks in person compared to some photos I've seen of it. In some photos it looks really wonderful and black with bright red accents. However sometimes it looks like more of a reddish brown throughout. I was wondering what exactly everyone thought about this finish and how it looks. Pictures would really be helpful. The second thing I want to know is how exactly this ages over time. It says the Kuro Tamenuri finish changes and becomes more colorful over time where the black is worn away and the red becomes more prominent. How much does it change exactly and is it going to wear more where my hands touch? Will I get a strange finger shaped red circles on the grip where I touch it? Again thanks for any and all information!
  3. 6 months of use. Endcap broke off so I taped the hole and stuffed a little paper to slow the nib drying out. I usually clip it in my shirt pocket. The peeling started around the 5 month mark. I ended up scraping the cap clean. Now the bodies turn to peel at 6 months 😭 I don't throw around my pen nor do I pocket it with keys. I want to chalk it up to a dud and want to order another but........ Anyone else have this issue
  4. Hello fellow FPNers, So it was a lazy Sunday afternoon and i was in front of my laptop with a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Beside my laptop was lying the Oliver Karma demonstrator. I had bought it quite a while ago and used it quite a lot. As a result. The clear acrylic barrel had developed scratches that scratched the eyes of the viewer. Also, it had not been factory polished from inside the barrel when i had bought it. It had the marks of lathe machine in it. As i sipped my coffee, an idea struck me like a bolt. Perhaps the result of my strong brew! I thought, why not try and give it the "frosted" finish that has recently gained quite some popularity. And off i went to convert my thought into action. Here is the result... The original finish.
  5. My one year old, sparingly used lamy 2000 fp with the makrolon finish has developed mysterious whitish grey spots that just won't go. I've tried using a dry as well as a damp (with clean room temperature tap water) microfibre cloth to gently polish this away, but that didn't work. Did anyone ever face a similar issue. Would appreciate a solution, if any. I don't know the material quite well and am unaware of its properties and interactions with cleaning substances. I've already contacted lamy support, but past experiences with them haven't been satisfactory and never prompt. I've attached some photos for reference. Hope they help. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Cheers! rs
  6. I use a lot of MB Royal and Midnight blues, I can get through a bottle of each in about 6 months, I can get through a bottle of Sailor Jentle Blue quite quickly, MB Jonathan Swift too... these inks seem to have their place in my array of uses. Other colours I have more of a problem with; It might be a colour that I like bit I just can't quite find a use for. Diamine Oxblood, Monaco Red, Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite. I like these reds, but I just don't use very much red. When I mark up I tend to use greens because I sometimes write with them and always have one to hand, or a particularly zingy blue. Pelikan Edelstein Saphire, Herbin Belu Neut and Eclat de Saphir, Pelikan Royal Blue and blue-black. I just have a lot of similar colours, I like all of the above but struggle to find a place for them amongst my regular blues. I'm sure there are many more, but Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite would have to be my favourite ink which sees almost no time in a pen. What do you have, and like, but struggle to use? What is the one ink in your collection that you would not want to loose, but only very rarely gets used?
