Thank you so much for the chance to try this amazing thing! http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/fd647a72e524b34242c990854cfa216c.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/f9037bf64160cdc716cd61f9ed592190.jpg ^Tomoe River paper The process of filling up pens with this and the Stormy Grey is pretty much the same. Shake the bottle till you can't see any gold at the bottom, and then quikly fill your pen. This is the best was to get a good amount of gold in your pen. Many people only use these inks in their cheaper pens, because of the particles. I could clean the Stormy Grey pretty easily, but I haven't tried to clean the Chivor yet. So, even though I had no issues, please use these inks carefully. Here we go with some shading, sheen and gold! http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/9549b6700fd3883ec8d502657e32e0ce.jpg ^Tomoe River above, Canson Satin tracing paper below. http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/9d36565bf073c41462821780246313fe.jpg ^Sheen on Tomoe River http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/0269cabf3bd75ccc7c04754e1aa261c8.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/56fc27a198fdf816f8be3454d6602b66.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/c4cd841a35972011b1f69cecc816c96b.jpg http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/159cc57287494cce8ffd17a43c71eb28.jpg ^80g printer paper, Safari 1.5 http://kephost.com/images/2015/07/23/377a29ce537291b328d05e0f6756cab1.jpg ^ 80g printer paper, Pelikan M600 medium. It needs a good paper to come alive, but be warned that you might fall in deep love with it!
  2. I'm considering getting a Franklin-Christoph P66 and I'm having trouble deciding on the finish. I'm considering Emerald but I'm a little uncertain about the color (it doesn't seem to get mentioned much). Is the material translucent enough to see the ink level in the barrel when eyedroppered? Pictures of any Emerald Franklin-Christoph would be much appreciated. Thanks!

J Herbin Emerald Of Chivor 1670

I recently received a sample of this ink. I don't normally go for glitter inks and I wouldn't get this one. It's not bad at all, and the flow is very good. Since this was a sample I can't say whether I received the proper amount of glitter bits. It sheens amazingly on Tomoe River. Pen: Edison Premiere (M-steel) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory. Camera: iPhone 7 No sheen on MvL or Hij. A feeble attempt to capture the sheen. It's much more dramatic in the flesh.
  4. Robert Oster Signature Inks are a new line coming out of South Australia and are making enthusiasts sit up and take notice! They are very competitively priced too. So, I acquired a handful of these, thus: Moss Emerald Green Deep Sea Bondi Blue Fire Engine Red Yellow SunsetIn the following short reviews the writing samples are created using an Osmiroid B4 italic nib and an Esterbrook 2048 fitted to a standard XT Esterbrook dip-less pen holder. All writing is by dipping. More time is needed to discover how these inks behave in cartridges, converters or eyedroppers. Swabs and comparisons with other inks will be provided later in the week – I’m all out of Q-tips! Okay, here we go, Emerald Wow! Look at the richness of that colour! Again, plenty of shading but no obvious sheen. It's a grey, rainy day here so perhaps with a bit of sunshine the sheen - if any - will show. Dry times were about the same as for the Moss ink. Paper is Rhodia, as it is my usual choice. Love the colour. Never thought I would be a fan of greens but these inks are turning my head for sure!
  5. Hi, we have just got in a sample of J Herbin's Emerald of Chivor ink and it deserves a quick review. I will say this up front : this one is a game changer. J Herbin caused a revolution last year with Stormy Grey. The anticipation was incredible, the sales were over the roof...and mostly...it got people talking and writing again. Turns out, Stormy Grey was just the beginning. This year J Herbin have opted for a green coloured ink with gold specs. Here is the official info: After the 1670 Hematite Red, Ocean Blue and Stormy Grey, we now have Chivor Emerald. In the middle of the XVI century, when the Conquistadors discovered the Colombian emerald mines, in particular the Chivor mine renowned for its emeralds with bluish tints. From then on, because of their exceptional qualities, they conquered the imperial courts of Europe thanks to the Indian traders.Later, J.Herbin continued his journeys to India. It is said that he always kept an emerald with him as the virtues of this precious stone are thought to protect the traveler… It is very difficult to photograph and describe, but I will do my best. Post might be a little picture heavy The bottle is the same as other 3 Anniversary inks. Teal seal with golden thread. Specs in the bottle remind me of nail varnish. Emerald describes the colour very well. Shading goes from Vert Reseda to dark teal. Ink flow is excellent! Ink has a heavy outer contour purple sheen (just like Sailor's Yama Budo), but there is also light green metallic sheen (colour similar to Fisher's Green Space Pen). This two-coloured sheen is in my opinion unheard (un-seen) of! Just like Stormy Grey, this ink is water-resistant. Not water-proof, but if you use it to write the address on the envelope, it should be OK. So here it is...over-all very exciting ink... What do you think? Is it your cup of tea? Would you get a bottle (or two)? I have been trying to find The One and accumulated almost 100 different colours (mostly green, turquoise, gold) of ink. This one will rule them all! Mishka

    Ink Review: Diamine Emerald

This is my review of Diamine Emerald ink I decided to try a sample of this ink after I wrote my review of J Herbin 1670 Anniversary ink Emerald of Chivor. The 2 inks are quite different though. It just goes to show different interpretations of what shade Emerald is. As usual for a Diamine ink, it's a well behaved ink. It's reasonably saturated and shows a little shading, more so with the round M nib. I found it flowed smoothly across the page, and had no problems with lubrication in the Kaweco 1.1 stub or the Reform M that I used. This ink exhibits no showthrough and no bleedthrough on my thick Xerox ColorPrint paper. The water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink, but there is a bit of water resistance.Bearing in mind the paper I use is thick with a shiny surface, and I used a 1.1 and a M nib, this ink only took 5-10 secs to dry. That's very quick on this smooth paper. It flows through the pen well and lubricates the nib well. I saw no skips or hard starts while I did swabs and dry time tests. It is currently available in 80ml glass bottles, 30ml plastic refill bottles or cartridges.Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.It's a reasonable price.

Why did it take this long? Good question....and it doesn't even matter I think. Here it is http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_001_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg On the scans you can spot the difference somewhat easily, but to the naked eye they are very similar. The Emerald is a more vivid green, and the Moss Green is just a bit more "mossy" I'd say. Haha Both of them shade nicely and behave great, no problems at all. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_01_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg I love the Maruman paper, because its very smooth, but it bleeds pretty easily with a wetter nib. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_1_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg A little bling and a little moss (and some bleed-through, but as I said earlier its just the paper) http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_002_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg This is on some thinner notebook paper. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_003_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg A bit of Clairefontaine. They both can have a nice pinkish/purplish sheen! Penman Emerald http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/P1170414_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg GvFC Moss Green http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140102/P1170560_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg Some extreme moss sheen remained from an ink drop. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140416/P1180500_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg Moss Green on top, Emerald on the bottom. http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg And a little surprising result (at least for me) from the Moss Green (on the left): http://kepfeltoltes.hu/140807/IMG_0007_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.jpg The is a whole lotta blue in the GvFC. The Emerald also showed a little blue what can be seen on the previous scan. I hope you found this interesting
  10. Here's another really nice Organics Studio ink that I liked. L Frank Baum Emerald. It's a good green. The flow of the ink is really nice and feels like a more expensive ink. I tend to like green as a color, especially middle green inks. But I thought this a good example of the color. It's not waterproof, not even really resistant. As noted, it held up about as well to water as the wicked witch. I wouldn't use this for taking notes in the rain, or near any pigtailed girls with little dogs and random buckets of water. Basically good color, good flow, keep away from water, and don't feed after midnight. Edit: fixing pictures
