  1. Hello! Pen fell off the table and cap crack. Roller cap possible swap to fountain pen?
  2. While scrolling through fountain pen boards and blogs you'll definitely learn more about the market and different brands, some well known, some obscure. It seems that some brands are rather disregarded as a fountain pen makers. Some for good reason, some undeservedly. One of such companies is Alfred Dunhill. Truth is the company isn't really focused on pens, their core products being lighters and leather goods, but the pens they have in offer are surprisingly good. I had a chance to try and review Alfred Dunhill Longitude fountain pen some time ago and I think it's excellent fountain pen. Recently I received other Dunhill creation to try. Thank you VodnikVolsovecek for lending me significant part of your fountain pens collection. The Sentryman is rather distinctive fountain pen available in variety of finishes: resin, brass, titanium, carbon fiber, soft lacquer. The design of the pen is uncommon. Sure, the clip may make you think about Graf von Faber-Castell but, in my opinion, Dunhill manages to offer something new. It was suggested that the shape of the cap was inspired by British post box. There may be some truth to this claim. Here's what Dunhill marketing team has to say about the design: "Bold, uncomplicated and masculine, Sentryman's simplicity of structure lends it a modern spirit whilst its defining detail looks back to a classic British design for inspiration. The distinctive architecture of the pen cap is evocative of the flat tops of Britain's tradition pillar boxes- a witty and unique feature that lends Sentryman its inimitable and idiosyncratic style." Dunhill Writing Instruments (n.d.): 3. Web. 11 Dec. 2015. It sounds reasonable but let's take a look at the pen anyway. The cap is sturdy and has unproportionally big dioameter compared to the barrel. The cap includes a spring loaded clip that extends up to 1cm, allowing it to attach onto a wide range of thin or thick materials without the clip becoming bent or loose due to long periods of tension. It feels well engineered and is functional. It may bear some resemblance to Graf von Faber-Castell clips. Metal section is slick and comfortable. Personally I like metal sections a lot. In case you dislike them this one won't probably change you. The overall design doesn't work for me. Cap is nice. Barrel would be nice if they didn't add this black plastic thing at the end of it. It just looks cheap. Also these elements brought together don't work well. When I look at this pen I experience strange sensation - I like individual elements but I dislike them combined in one pen. Nib Dunhill uses Namiki nibs. They're good. Very, very good. Let me say it shortly - this nib is simply stunning. Filling system International standard cartridges or converter. Works well. Summary Well, as usually in this section the question arises whether this pen is worth significant amount of money it costs? If you have a lot of money to spend and you are currently looking for a fancy fountain pen this one may be a candidate to relieve you of excess of savings. Made out of carbon fiber it does look nice and is well engineered. The nib is great, writing experience and pen-to-paper performance are satisfying. On the other hand I don't buy this design. To me the cap is to broad compared to the barrel and plastic "nipple" at the end of the barrel makes the design ridicolous. While I enjoy writing with the pen and I consider that single elemets are well made and deisgned, they just don't work well together .
  3. Hi, I came across an old pen of my grandfather's. I am guessing it is from the 80's. It's an old Dunhill rollerball with a weighted desk holder. The pieces separate. Does anyone know it's worth? Cost to restore? Is it any good? Etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it is the only thing I have of my grandfather. Thank you, Scott
  4. Hi! I know this is a bit of a long shot, but I thought it worth a try... I have a Dunhill Namiki pen thats missing its cap, so I'm looking for a replacement. The pen is a 1930's 'Balance Model' of the size that typically takes a number '3' nib, sometimes a number '2' nib is fitted. The cap should be without metal rings, but it can be with or without a clip, and with or without the scored ridge. It can be Dunhill, Namiki or Pilot. The length of the cap should be 6.7 cms, outside diameter at cap opening 1.25 cms, inside diameter 1.15 cms. The length of such a model pen with the cap closed is 13.2 cms. Attached is an example of the same size balance model, and a pic showing the threads on the barrel. Maybe someone has a poor condition Dunhill Namiki pen where the maki-e work is badly worn? - I'd be happy to buy at a good price so I can 'borrow' its cap! Or happy to buy the cap alone as a part. Alternatively, if anyone knows of any pen turners who can make a cap for the pen, please let me know... the problem is I dont have a cap to be copied/replicated, the pen turner would have to work only from pictures.
  5. Do we have any Dunhill experts out there? I came across this stunning Dunhill (Montblanc) gold filled fountain pen recently. Engraved above the cap lip is 'Dunhill 49900' with the Dunhill logo on cap top. The round section is in blue resin, inlaid panel on spring loaded clip and logo on cap top is in blue enamel. The nib is 18K 750 gold. Cap and barrel have a gold pinstripe design. Nib twists to achieve comfortable writing position, as with the Cartier Vendome. Montblanc made a number of 'Dress' pen's for Dunhill in the 1980's. Despite all my research, I can not find any reference to this model. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Dear FPN er's, Every once in a while I like to use a ballpoint pen and so just the other day acquired on Ebay a NOS Dunhill Gemline (Old Style) Barley Gold Plated Ballpoint pen. Absolutely love it. I am having one heck of a time finding refills. Every place I look is out of stock. Can you recommend something that will work? And better yet a gel ink! Thanks, CharlieP
  7. Hi All, I hope to gain some feedback on this pen I have. I have the exact pen in the link below: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dunhill-Sterling-Silver-Ball-Point-Pen-Rare-Light-Usage-/181495933395?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a420029d3 Mine however does not come with the box or papers. I am wondering if I'd be able to trade it for a good FP or should I just keep it for my own usage? What do you guys think? Sorry mods it this is in the wrong section. T.I.A. Cheers, Alan
  8. Found this Dunhill Ballpoint pen at home. It says " SWISS MADE" on the body. Is it a fake Dunhill pen? if not, how much it worth? Thank you
