  1. A slightly different review of Nakaya Decapod TW in kuro-tamenuri. Why are my reviews different? I focus on urushi aspect. On technique used, quality of finish, care tips, longevity etc. Watch the video, and please click the LIKE button - it helps me with Youtube algorithms, and to reach more interested people. Nakaya Nib Comparison

So I was planning to buy a nakaya medium nib, then I saw this review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQSfX91oAC4 by Mr. Brown. As you can see in the video the regular medium seems very dry and hard as a nail. Then I saw the soft medium, it seems like it is the nib I really want. A little bit flexible and pretty wet. But still I can't be so sure just from watching a video. So I'd like to ask anyone that has experienced it firsthand how the soft medium feel compared to the regular medium nakaya nib (is the medium really that dry? because I'm a little bit shocked at how dry and hard it is). My fa
  3. I'm planning to purchase a nakaya pen, probably neo standard. I'm wondering if the pen kimono is included or purchased separately?
  4. I am thinking about getting a Nakaya Decapod or a Taccia Kaku-Tate, but I am not sure how they compare to each other: Does anyone have a picture with both of them, maybe even together with another pen like a Lamy 2000 or Safari? As far as I can tell, the Nakaya Decapod is significantly smaller and a bit slimmer, since it is also slightly tapered towards the ends. But does the Taccia Kaku-Tate really look "bulky" in comparison? Thanks a lot in advance!

    Nakaya Decapod Versus Twist

I am at a fork in the road. The sign on the left reads "Decapod;" the sign on the right reads "Decapod Twist." I have been using measurements from Nakaya's site to gauge the fit of the Twist. According to the chart, the Decapod seems to be one of the lighter models at 17g, while the larger Twist weighs in at 20g, the same as a Portable or Piccolo. Based on photos, it seems ever so slightly longer yet substantially thicker than the Decapod. I enjoy a slim, lightweight pen. For reference, I would say the Portable is ideal. I also have a Naka-ai, which I find a bit on the heavy side. For th
  6. I must admit that I haven't been on for close to a year after I purchased my Nakaya Mini Decapod in Kuro-tamenuri since it's been in rotation ever since...yes, I'm that satisfied with it So imagine my surprise as I was looking to see if I could purchase another one but in the Ao-tamenuri on nibs.com that Nakaya has discontinued both the mini decapod and the Ao-tamenuri finish . Does anybody know how long ago they stopped making the mini-decapod and the Ao-tamenuri finish? Does anybody know possibly the reason why? I may just have to purchase a Dorsal Fin they have left at nibs...
  7. Nakaya Decapod Twist - Ao Tamenuri Warning - lots of pictures! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b70/minkapics/Nakaya_1.jpg This isn’t going to be a formal review; just some brief impressions and I hope instead that the pictures give a good idea of what the pen is like. There are a lot of lovely pens in the world but the moment I first saw the Nakaya Decapod Twist I knew I would have to buy one. I already owned the standard Decapod by then, but the Twist was clearly something special and unique. I’d never seen a pen quite like it. After all, how many pens take the hand-made virtues tha
  8. I ordered this pen in September, directly from Nakaya, and it arrived at the beginning of this month. This year has been crazy and hectic, so I haven't had a chance to post much, but I wanted to share some photos of this, one of my grail pens. Hopefully I'll get more time to post some more photos and reviews of some new pens! I asked that it be fitted with a rhodium plated Soft Fine nib; it's stiffer than the unplated SFs that I have on some other Nakayas, but still gives some line variation and feels very nice while I'm writing. The color is exactly what I was hoping for - a deep,
