Here is what I assume is a Chilton pen. It does not have the Chilton name anywhere, but does have an imprint of a Chilton patent number, 1902633, on the barrel. Cap is inscribed Gimbel's, nib is marked Warranted 14K 8. Pen measures 4-3/4" long (capped). I cannot find any Gimbel's catalogs online, so I am unsure if this was sold by Gimbel's, was used as a loaner, or something else.

I've a extremely nice Chilton pneumatic filler from 1926. I'm considering replacing the sac. Are there any pitfalls doing so? regards

Hi – I have a Boston-era Chilton which needs a new ink sac. When attempting to remove the section from the barrel, I’ve found that it is stuck -- the metal sleeve inside the barrel won’t turn. I’ve soaked and warmed the pen but doing so does not help. Given that this is an old and somewhat fragile pen, I don’t want to apply much pressure when attempting to twist the feed. Because I might be making incorrect assumptions about how to replace the sac, I’ve looked for schematics of this Chilton model but am coming up empty. I’d appreciate any guidance for how to proceed with sac replacement. I've attached an image of the pen in question.

I have a Chilton, of unspecified vintage, with brass fittings and lovely green enamel (stone?) inlay around the cap. I am assured by its' previous owner that it once upon a time drew ink, but it no longer does, despite my inventive cussing about such things. Because I am uncomfortable attempting disassembly and repair myself, where should I go for trusted repair service? Perhaps I've insufficiently googled, but I'm not turning much up by way of resources for either age determination or someone who specializes in this type of repair. I appreciate the guidance.

Restoration Project - Chilton Golden Quill: Barrel Threading And Crack
Apothic posted a topic in Repair Q&A
Hey All, Recently I was able to acquire a Golden Quill from an amazing dealer who will remain anonymous unless they wish to post. But the buying experience could not have been better! I purchased the GQ knowing that there was a small chunk missing out of the threads, and a short crack running off this chunk, that followed the thread's groove for an 1/8th of an inch or so. Restorations on uncommon pens can be stressful, but when they're done, oh man, it is worth every drop of sweat. The fracture in the threading was compromised first. Preventing it from spreading. Matching the threads was a little bit tricky, but overall; once the GQ was in my hands I was able to get some really amazing results. Before After Thank you for letting me share!- 3 replies
