About this ink: This is a special or seasonal ink made by Sailor for Bung Box. The name of the ink can be broken down as: Tsuyu つゆ= dewdrop Hikari ひかり=light, shine So in my head I read it as Light shining on a dew drop. It matches a local tea, "Tsuyuhikari　つゆひかり is a variety of a green tea plant that is grown in Omaezaki, Shizuoka-prefecture in Japan," according to my friend and colleague, Jesse (aka PenJockey.) Rumor has it if you request to sample this ink at Bung Box, they will brew you a cup of tea that perfectly matches this ink. TESTING: Although I am generally not a fan of Green inks, I found this ink intriguing. It goes down as a light -- almost neon or bright lime green -- and begins to change almost instantly. It picks up strong olive green and light gold brown tones, almost dusky notes. Only in the Swab do you see it stay the same color as what is in the bottle. The ink is quite wet, even in my dry 15 year-old Namiki Vanishing Point pen (F). I found it shaded nicely from light green to a deeper green. It takes roughly 7-8 seconds to be smear proof. As I wrote I noticed some sections of my writing were lighter and some were more of a light olive green. There is shading, from light to a medium tone. Paper used was HP 32 pound Prem. Laser. Given that Bung box ink is rather dear here...I would like some advise on which blue black to indulge in...deciding between 4B and Silent Night has me in a quandary. Any sage advise? BTW this would be my first purchase of a true blue black ink. I'm extraordinarily picky about ink.

It seems Matador doesn't get much love around here - it could if only it would be cheaper and easily available. It's nice red ink that behaves well on most papers although it's not problem-free. It tends to dry out in the pen when it's left uncapped for 15-20 seconds. Yellow card, Apart from that, the ink is well behaved (no feathering, no bleedthrough, reasonable dry time, nice lubrication, smooth flow) . Personally I wouldn't buy this ink. The color is nice but, quite frankly, you'll easily find cheaper alternatives (not doppelgangers, mind you, but dark reds with shading are abundant on the market). Omaezaki Sunset is too red to be called an orange but in the same time it's not red enough to be called true red. Also, if you'll look closely, you'll see some pinkish accents. It's rather unusual color but I wouldn't call it pretty. I just don't feel it. Apart from that ink behavior is reasobable. It lacks any useful water resistance but it's, I think, its only drawback. It seems Tortoise Shell Brown is one of least popular Bung Box ink - I didn't manage to find a single review but I didn't look very hard. The name got me hooked. Tortoise shell, especially on living turtles, looks stunning. I wasn't sure what to expect as tortoise shell is seen in variety of hues in the nature. Sadly Sailor and Bung Box chose one of less intriguing hues. The color could be described as a mix between deep coffee and taupe. It's not bad but somehow I feel it lacks character a bit. Apart from that, the ink is well behaved (no feathering, no bleedthrough, reasonable dry time, nice lubrication, smooth flow) and shows good water resistance (color fades but the text is easily legible even after two hours of soaking the paper in water). Personally I would never buy this ink as the color doesn't appeal to me stronly enough to shell more than 40 $ for it but if you can afford it and like similar hues this one will be good choice. If you like the color but the price is an issue, maybe J. Herbin's Cacao du Bresil could be a reasonable choice for you? This is a review of the Bung Box (Sailor) color Fresh Oranges of Lake Hamana. Papers: This review was done on HP 32 pound Prem. Laser paper, printed using a laser printer. I also include writing and printing samples on Tomoe River cream and white, and Rhodia white dot pad. Pens: TWSBI 580 (orange) with a Medium nib. Pilot Metropolitan with a Medium Plumix Italic nib. Esterbrook J with a Esterbrook 9788-M nib This review includes both scans and photo. Observations about interaction of nibs and ink: The TWSBI wrote nice and wet with this ink. It was darker with little shading in a wet pen. The Pilot felt (and was) extremely dry - which surprised me, but it might be from swapping nibs.The ink appeared much lighter in hue using this pen. More pronounced shading. The Estie laid this down beautifully and seemed the best balanced between a very wet vs dry pen. Last night I didn't put in a shading score, as I wanted to see it in sunlight, having done this, I would say shading is an 8/10. In conclusion, although this is a tad bright for me, I found I really liked how vibrant and lush the color was. ETA I can't believe I typoed the name lol

Through Massdrop, Bung Box released a twin set of inks in celebration of Lunar New Year. I decided to do a low-tech review (mainly because I am laid-low by the flu.) The colors in the set are Kotohogi Kuremai and Hatsuyume Aofiji, a very pink red and a sky blue. The arrived yesterday. They arrived in traditional Sailor style bottles and boxes, including the plastic interior retaining cup. Although some folks might be unhappy with this, I prefer this to the traditional Bung Box bottles. I have a cat. I always fear for my carpets when inking up because Mr. P must be wherever I happen to be looking. Kotohogi Kuremai The Kotohogi Kuremai was darker than I expected, given the doodle on Massdrop. I had expected it to be more eye-searing, like their 3rd Anniversary Sakura. There is a slight sheen, almost a silvery gold. But it is very subtle and hard to see. The ink handled well, was wet and highly saturated. I was surprised it dried so quickly with 30% humidity here today. Hatsuyume Aofiji I really liked this blue. I had expected it to be as light as the Fujiyama blue, but it was very middle of the road blue. Wet I could see the crimson sheen. It is incredibly beautiful! I am happy I got the set if only for this blue! It is a very wet ink, highly saturated, wonderful lubrication. In my mind it aces the three "Ss" Shading, Saturation and Sheen that I associated with Bung Box and Sailor inks. Look at this shading!!! When I feel better I will add reviews in a fountain pen and properly scan them.

Inspired by Lgsoltek's beautiful ink review here, I have inked up a pen with this ink, and I have fallen in love with this one. It shades so nicely for me. For sheen photos please see Lgsoltek's review, and for fade test please see amberleadavis' review. To look at this ink from a different angle, I have mostly concentrated on the shading of this ink using different nib units that I used on my TWSBI 580 pen. I think this ink has great shading potential as long as the pen writes fairly wet. The highlight area is fuchsia and the darker shaded area is a dark violet. It reminds me of the 2nd formula of Black Swan in Australian Roses, but pinker and brighter. I am loving this ink at the moment. I also did a quick chromatography and water resistance test. I hope it will be useful. Water resistance - Poor. However some bluish dye will stay after 2 minutes soak, and drops of water blotted away in 15 seconds will leave some mark after blotting too. Also, the ink when washed has a fluoro look to it, like some really bright pink inks do (e.g. Diamine Hope Pink).

A request was made for a quick side by side comparison of two Bung Box (Sailor) inks: Tears of a Clown and Sweet Potato Purple. I apologize for the distracting line, I did the swabs and splatters separately and taped them on. Notes: Tears of a Clown was inked in a standard med. TWSBI-Eco. There are no modifications on the nib. The Sweet Potato Purple was inked into a Shaeffer Javelin, modified with a magical Art Nib's mod,, and is a stub and somewhat flexy. Ink Characteristics: Both were very wet inks, richly saturated, well lubricated so even a stiff nib like the Eco's danced across the page. The small square in the middle are the two inks, in a single series of passes, abutting. Neither ink feathered, bled through. Both dried (on Tomoe) in the 15-18 second range. Paper: Tomoe River White Sheen: Two pictures taken on an iPhone. The sheen is identical to me, highest key is a lime yellow, middle key of the sheen is Chartreuse, the lowest key falls to olive. Vanness received additional Bung Box colors today, one of which is L'Amant, a color a few members have been waiting for. Price is $40 per bottle, but with it comes free priority shipping--more affordable and larger color range than available on the Bung Box's amazon website. This is a review of a Limited Edition ink made by Sailor for Bung Box. Each glass bottle had a number on the bottom that was molded in the glass. There were only one hundred bottles of this ink made. By sheer dumb luck I happened onto one. I bought for a friend that was dying to get it. They gave me the sample used for this review. The bottle was rather beautiful, (image taken from Bung Box's Facebook page.) The ribbon and seal were a nice little add-on that made the entire opening festive and special. I couldn't quite get the HP paper color corrected. This would be a great ink if you liked pinkish-red and dry inks without sheen. I was afraid to try this in a vintage pen, but I might take one and use it as a dip pen to see if it will behave different under gold. I didn't do the water test as every flat surface has varieties of Apricot inks drying, and I wanted to post this before I forget.

Bung Box is japanese retailer. They offer wide variety of pens and inks. Also Sailor makes some exclusives for them. Cyber6 who is amazing ink enabler send me a sample. I'm really grateful because she's spared me disappointment. Yup. It's the first time I kind of dislike the ink I enjoyed so much on scans. And scans weren't bad, they were fairly accurate. It's just the color lacks richness and depth on most of the papers. I see no reason to pay 40 $ for an ink that looks good only on best papers. It's more on a dry side, the lubrication is less than average, and it shows absolutely none waterproofness. The color isn't bad, I like such hues, however you'll find easily inks that are cheaper and better than this one. Another Yu-yake, another Sunset, from Bung Box (Sailor). I don't have Iroshizuku Yu-yake to compare it with, unfortunately. Packaging Standard Bung Box packaging. It even makes Orange indien, the terribly under-saturated pale ink which I dislike, look so pretty.) (The comparison with other inks is probably not very useful. It's too red to be called an orange, and not red enough to be called a red. I think I can see some pinkish tone in it, as you might see in the "non-shading" part of the writings. All that makes Omaezaki a unique colour. I like this ink but it's not love yet.

One of my most recent purchase, Bung Box Hatsukoi, also known as Bung Box Sapphire. The name "First Love" actually refers to Penman Sapphire, which I never had the chance to experience, as I converted to "Inkism" only a year ago. Packaging It comes with standard Bung Box box and in an elegant glass bottle. It has nice shading, lovely sheen. The behaviour is standard-Sailor, very good.

This ink is called "Omaezaki Ruri Kaishoku" (transliteration from Google Translate). Omaezaki is a city at the tip of a peninsula on Japan's Pacific coast. Ruri is some sort of glass or stone. Kaishoku means the colour of the ocean. This ink has a sister ink, called "Omaezaki Ruri Sora-iro", the colour of the sky. I think these two inks allude to the colours of the sky and ocean one would see in Omaezaki. Anyway I purchased this ink. The sky one is too light for my liking. Packaging Splashes (The sheen is crazy, so much that I can barely see the colour of the ink itself. But it was very very wet here in the splash.) "Spread" Writing samples Shading (The shading is amazing.) Water resistance & Dry time （Rudimentary) Chromatography Verdict It's a very pretty dark blue ink with a hint of green. The name, Ocean Colour, is quite accurate. It writes as a fresh blue colour and dries to a darker tone. The drier part of the writing is bluer, and the wetter part looks greener. As other Sailor inks, it behaves well. The flow is smooth, no feathering or bleedthrough. I forgot to compare it to other blue inks I have... But I shall post a comparison with Sailor Sei-boku soon.

Hi Everyone, After reading the many wonderful reviews that saskia_madding has been writing on the Sailor inks, I finally tried all of the Jentle line (except for Black and Doyou) and I of course got hooked! This brand really is amazing and now I’ve fallen in love with Epinard, Miruai, Shigure and Yama Dori! The only thing I am still searching for is one or two blues by Sailor. I don’t love cerulean blues so Souten wasn’t right for me and Nioi-Sumire was beautiful but not the shade I need at the moment. Although I loved the contrast of the red sheen and the blue ink of the basic Sailor Blue, this was the only ink from all of the Jentle line samples that I ordered that dried in my nib, and I had to use pen flush to get the dried sheen off after only a couple minutes of use, so it’s not a good match for my pen. I am looking for a bright true blue that doesn’t lean too much to green or purple and I love smooth inks with a great flow (Miruai blew me away from this point). After going through the extensive reviews of the Kobe, Bung Box and Ishida Bungu inks that once again I am so thankful to saskia_madding for posting, I’ve narrowed down the blues to: -Bung Box Sapphire -Kobe# 14 Maya Lapis -Kobe#37 Island Blue -Ishida Bungu Hakodate Twilight I’ve found a review from amberleadavis and a co-razy view from cyber6 of Kobe #37, so I’ve added those images to the comparison chart I’m compiling to help decide on the final blues. It’s been a rough week, so I am using it as an excuse to treat myself to 2 of the inks (I'll look for any excuse to get an inky treat haha) but I wanted to ask if anyone has writing samples and experience with these 4 inks that they could share in this post. Any information you could include about flow, smoothness, sheen (i love sheen lately!) and potential dry out or cleaning issues that would be very helpful! Thank you very much for your help!! Bahij
