  1. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Fountain Pen Network, As a side effect of the recent re-shuffle of forums (December 2014), which has more or less been concluded now, I was fortunate enough to search for all the pen brands I could find, with a view to moving them to the appropriate forums, together with the entire team. Since I thought you might be interested, I have accumulated all the pen brands, I could find, in this topic, alphabetized by country, with the brands also appearing in alphabetical order. Furthermore, if several pen brands occur(red) more than once, I have added the company or main brand in curved brackets, and if a main brand/company produced another brand, I have tried to add that brand in curved brackets as well, although this is a far from complete exercise so far. In case a brand opened several factories, in different countries, I have tried to indicate this as well. This info has been scraped from some of the pen books I am lucky enough to own, and the internet, with due reference especially to our own site right here, and to the Soloplumas website, which you may find here: http://soloplumas.blogspot.de/. Other pen sites which proved useful were generally the sites of traders in pens, especially vintage pens, several blogs, etc. As always when doing these searches - Google is one's friend . The idea is to try and keep this list up to date, and if any of you notice that pen brands are missing, please add those to this list, preferably with a reference; I will add them to the appropriate country. Similarly, please let me know if any typos were made, I'll gladly correct those too, and also any main brands for the brands listed. In case of incorrect attributions, please let me know too, preferably with a reference too: the idea is to, possibly, create an entry per brand with some sort of description if at all possible (time-wise), or if you yourself would like to do so - by all means post it, and notify me. For convencience's sake, portions of this topic will be copied to the relevant forums as well. Thank you all very much in advance! Warm regards, Wim
  2. I was wondering how many fountain pens are sold every year. I read that the fountain pen industry sells $1 billion of pens. I can't find how many individual pens are sold. Anyone know the average selling price of fountain pens. I could come up with some estimates of number of units sold. For instance, if I assume $200 asp then I get 5,000,000 fountain pens sold worldwide. I would really appreciate some solid sources that have units sold numbers. It could be any year since 2000.
  3. Hello Colleagues, I have asked this same question to "LB" Luxury Brands. In the recent weeks while moving my movers damaged my Ink collection tote and over 10-20 bottles of my inks 98% were Noodler's band in the boxes they were received in. I lost labels from the remaining bottles in the cleaning up processes. I was looking to purchase replacement labels to re-apply to the bottles after determining its name. LB told me that this is not possible. My question to the group is LB the distributor to retailers of Nathan's T., inks products. If not could some in the forum give me an email or address to Nathan T so that I may ask my question to him? I have found that only one other brand bottle was lost, this leads me to the question why are Noodler's Ink so breakable when others are not. Thank you for my Fountain Pen colleagues in reading my concern. Randy Allen Dodds (Penster59) randydodds@gmail.com Palm Harbor, FL
  4. Hello, Hopefully I've decided on the right section to ask this question. I am currently dating someone who is from Taiwan. He enjoys using fountain pens (and rarely uses any other writing instrument) so I had decided that, as part of his Christmas gift this year, I would get him 2 pens: one from Taiwan (to represent where he was born) and one from Canada (where we reside now). I am fairly certain I have been able to locate a local pen maker where I will purchase the Canadian pen but I am having a difficult time discovering what legitimate brands are out there from Taiwan. I have been able to look at an online store for TY Lee and I've looked at the Tenny site but, as both of them are in Chinese, I'm a little hesitant to settle on something as of yet. If anyone has any assistance they can provide, whether it be a good retailer or even just some brands to look out for, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you! - Samantha

  7. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Fountain Pen Network, As a side effect of the recent re-shuffle of forums (December 2014), which has more or less been concluded now, a list of all pen brands worldwide, as far as any information could be found on these brands, was compiled. Please find below the list of pens, other than the regular subjects , which are discussed specifically in this forum. For a complete list of all known pen brands, check here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/281024-pen-brands-worldwide-by-country/ The idea is to try and keep this list up to date, and if any of you notice that pen brands are missing, please add those to this list, preferably with a reference; I will add them only with pleasure. Thank you all very much in advance , and enjoy! Warm regards, Wim
  8. Okay, so my ignorance is really starting to show and I'm quickly discovering that I know far less than I would like to think I do. Anyone can get old pens from a relative, buy a pen because it's pretty, dole out for gorgeous colored ink, but I'm learning that it's almost the entire extent of my fountain pen knowledge!! I have bought a few third tier pens, some new from Levenger and over paid dearly for a Sheaffer on flea bay, so I ask you this: Is it just me or are all of the acronyms thrown around here confusing to anyone else or am I just so uneducated that they don't make sense to me? I finally had to ask someone what TWSBI stood for as I thoutht it was an acronym...no clue it was a brand!! There are many more, but I didn't find a place here that would describe such things. Did I miss something? Guess I am still a neophyte. Any suggestions?
  9. What motivates your pen buying/collecting? Do you look for trophy pens, those rare special vintage ones? Limited editions? Favorite colors, brands, or models? Do you hunt for specific pens? Prefer new over vintage or vice versa? How does price figure in? I know these are many questions, but I am trying to answer them for myself as a new pen enthusiast just starting out. I seem to be rather disorganized in my thinking, and want to pull back and try to figure out what I really like and want in a pen. All input appreciated!

    Inks Grouped By Brand?

I've noticed that a lot of people and stores seem to group the fountain pen inks that they own by the company that makes them rather than by color. I'm curious as to why people do this, is it because people get attached to a specific company's ink, something to do with the properties of that company's ink, or something else? From my beginner's vantage to the fountain pen world, it seems like color is the more logical way to sort inks.
  11. Hi everyone, I'm new here and found your site while trying to figure out a pen I own. I was given it as a gift several years ago and recently came across it again in a box I unpacked. It's a black pen with silver and written on the cap is "Tsunami" with a little wave symbol on the clip. (See photo). I've searched all over the internet for information, but have found zip. I'd really like to use this pen, but don't have a cartridge for it and have no idea what type it would use. If anyone can give me any information or help, I'd be very grateful!
  12. I completed conversion of a Harbor Freight Tool Box (thanks to FPGeeks!) and, as I tried to figure out which pens would go where, I gained some new insights into my 'habit' of amassing pens! here is the short list of my pens' characteristics: "Pretty" or works of art....maki-e, hand-made, one-of-a-kindgifts, souvenirs, sentimental varieties of filling mechanismscheap and utilitarian"interesting" or "curious""cute" (little pens)I do have mostly modern, but a few vintages fit the categories, as well. Some, obviously, fit more than one category. I have not focused on any one brand, country of origin, or manufacturer. I use all my pens...none are so-called COLLECTORS that don't get inked! Nib quality is a consideration, but can be fixed, adjusted, or replaced. Overall performance is a consideration, so I rely on all of my FPN and FPG and Posse for reviews. one more observation, I can justify absolutely ANY new purchase by sticking to my criteria! How about you? How would you describe your collection's characteristics?
