  1. Okay...so my question has a back story. Yesterday, I saw the photograph given below in a book. It is a picture of Abanindranath Tagore, master-painter and nephew of Rabindranath Tagore. He is writing something with a pen in this picture. Naturally, I tried to identify the pen in his hand but failed. I searched the Internet and took this screenshot of two pens used by Abanindranath (as labeled) from a virtual tour of Jorasanko Thakur Bari Museum. To me, these look like ballpoint pens. But A.N. Tagore died in 1951. He belonged to an aristocratic family and therefore using an imported ballpoint pen is not surprising. But, the pens appear to be made by indian craftsmen. (Similar pens are still made by bengali artisans of Shantiniketan in West Bengal). Where ballpoint pens manufactured in India before 1951? Even serious is the fact that if these pens were manufactured after '51 than the museum has labeled them wrongfully.

  4. I would greatly appreciate the community's help in definitely identifying this vintage Wearever ballpoint pen which I purchased on ebay a number of years ago. Somehow, I thought that I was ordering a fountain pen but I must have overlooked something because I received an interesting ballpoint instead. I've found practically no references to this pen on the internet and very few photos. The photos I have found are on ebay or other auction sites like here and here and here. In Speerbob's listing on ebay, he describes the pen as circa 1957 but gives no other info regarding the model or series. The closest I've come to identifying this pen so far is with the help of PenHero's site here. The cap on my pen is certainly the same style as the Wearever Supreme line of fountain pens albeit my cap is gold and the ones in PenHero's images are silver. Still, the lines at the base of the cap and the style of the clip are almost identical. As you can see from the photos attached, the pen must have had some kind of replaceable ballpoint/refill. Certainly those must be long gone by now, but I may try to syringe fill the one I have and cap it in some way with silicon grease, wax or some kind of small stopper. I realize that this pen isn't really especially valuable from a collector's standpoint, but like many of you I enjoy knowing as much of the history behind my collection of pens as possible. Thanks in advance for whatever insight you can offer! Regards, Chris
  5. I love to draw and mainly use my fountains pens for that. But recently I tried ballpoint pens and they are great tools as well. I like bit drier type, the ones you can get light and bold marks depending on pressure. I currently use really cheap ones, but you know... I want some proper fancy ones, but which one would suit my criteria? It needs to be refillable, of course. I prefer smallish pens, because I would love to keep this pen attached to my sketchbook and take it everywhere. And it needs to have black, dryish ink. This is the most important part, it has to be able to produce light marks and bold marks. I fell in love with new limited edition Lamy pico. I have no way to test this out, how the pen behaves and feels. I also plan to get just one ballpoint, because still I like my fountain pens more. So I really need your help, what brand have these dryish refills and small ballpoint pens? I like neon green, yellowgreen, lime those kind of colors. But I also like demonstrators, cool engineering and all black pens. So what are your thoughts?

  8. I have a nice pen but am unsure which ballpoint refill to purchase that is compatible. It has a "4 prong" bottom but I'm sure the refill doesn't necessarily have to be. Sorry for the shoddy pictures Thanks for your assistance!

  12. A new pen is now available in the Visconti Van Gogh Collection - Shoes. https://www.penchalet.com/blog/visconti-van-gogh-shoes-pen-collection/ Vincent Van Gogh painted many still lifes of shoes and boots early in his career during the time he was living in Paris. This painting, titled "Shoes", was the only painting of footwear during his time in Aryles. The shoes with the laces undone are seen on the red tile floor of the Yellow House he resided in Aryles. Visconti continues its tribute to Van Gogh's work with the US release of a new pen; Shoes. Visconti has worked hard to formulate palettes of color that accurately reflect the technique and emotion of each of Van Gogh's paintings. Never before have pens been created that were inspired from a specific canvas - difficult work considering the diversity of objects and techniques used by Van Gogh. Through meticulous and painstaking choice of color and palette mix, each Visconti pen is unique and has emerged to represent a specific Van Gogh painting. The name of the painting and artist are delicately engraved around the pen's ring, and each pen is packed into a unique gift box that is complemented with a faithfully reproduced canvas of the painting. The pen itself utilizes Visconti's eighteen-faceted design, the many edges enhancing the vivid colors of the pen. As always, each pen may be personalized using Visconti's patented 'My Pen System,' and Visconti has employed their popular magnetic closure system. The new pen is available in fountain, rollerball, and ballpoint. 16. Dear All, Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, and I'm also conscious that this primarily a fountain pen site (!) but any advice would be gratefully received. I hope the following question does not breach forum etiquette... I recently purchased a MEISTERSTÜCK SOLITAIRE BLUE HOUR MIDSIZE BALLPOINT PEN which, I have since returned. Unfortunately, every time the ballpoint made contact with the paper, I noticed an all too noticeable noise emanating from the spring. I'm not particularly 'heavy handed' so I suspect that this could have been a one off but having spoken to MB they advised that the metal spring against the platinum barrel might be conducive to such noise. My question is whether anyone else has experienced this on the Solitaire or with or other pens? I have a LeGrand and it is extremely silent... I would like to give the Solitaire another go as I really like the pen, but because I had to order the pen online (due to logistics, I'm not particularly close to my AD) I don't want a repeat! The other option I had in mind was the Ultra Carbon Starwalker. Any and all advice much appreciated. With thanks, Francis
  17. Hi. I wanted to know if rollerball pens are more complex than ballpoint pens and if they are whether such fact makes them more pricier than ballpoints? I know that fountain pens are the most complex than those mentioned and yet they seem to cost less than former two it seems. Just wanted to be more knowledgeable and smart when buying them.

  19. Good day I have found good diary to gift for someone but I also want to include complementary pen. Diary has this vintage theme so I want pen to have it as well. It would not make it special if I include a mere cheap pen, right? My question is what typ of pen it should be to make impression because I don't want this gift to to appear as commodity. Maybe add something a bit special like pen that is not common. While fountain pen is a good idea I don't think person would want to tinker with it so I thought about rollerball pen due to it's similarity to fountain pen and easy to care for or gel pen which has more visconsity and is less likely to bleed-through and feather except it will be not as slick in writing as rollerball. Do you know what type of paper is best for ballpoint pens? I actually saw journal that has ballpoint pen made of bamboo which I think fits vintage theme but a couple folks reported that it does not write well. I checked sheets and it says they are thicker than normal sheet, have 55 brightness and are matte. Sheets are C6 size reminding envelope and are yellow colored. Can it be kraft paper and is kraft apper card stock? Diary sold is offered in yellow (kraft?), white and creamy (ivory paper?) so I wonder what is most preferred and used?
