    Sheaffer Balance 2 Photo Gallery

I haven't seen a full-fledged photo gallery here of the modern Sheaffer Balance 2 (or Balance II), so I thought I'd provide one now. If I'm wrong, I apologize in advance, but no harm done. I'll provide photos in a few separate posts here. Let's start with the Balance 2 "Classic Colors," which were made from an injection-molded solid-color resin. They came in three colors -- Hunter Green, Navy Blue, and Black -- and were available in FP, RB, and BP. The FP came with a 14K solid gold nib, available in a few widths, including a stub. The nib was quite firm. Here are my photos. You'll notice that the Hunter Green FP shown here has a stub nib. Many years ago, I sold my Navy Blue and Black Balance II FPs, so I only have a BP in each of those colors in my collection.
  2. I have a Schaeffer Balance II, purchased years ago and the tube running through the back of the section was damaged. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any chance this can be repaired or replaced for a reasonable sum?
  3. I thought that the only 90s. Balance in gray is the limited edition, the well-known sac-filler. However, I recently acquired a cartridge model in gray with dark-blue and forest-green accents (these are not well visible on the photo below, unfortunately). I have never seen s photo of such version - am I right, that it can be quite rare?

    Sheaffer Balance Ii

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out here before I finally give up on this pen. About a year and half, possibly two years ago, I purchased a Sheaffer Balance II. I liked the faux vintage look and the nib was very pretty and the length and shape of the pen appealed to me. Before using it I flushed it out thoroughly, but when inked it would write only a few lines and stop after prolonged skipping. If I pushed very slightly on the nib the ink flow would start again. I took a look at the nib and noticed the tines were very tight. I used a very thin shim to try and broaden them. This intervention helped me get twice as much writing pleasure from it before drying up - in other words, two paragraphs. I took another look at the nib again through a loop and thought it looked like it was suffering from baby's bottom. I decided that this was not something I could fix myself, so I sent it off to be fixed. In fact, I had the nib completely reground as it was just a touch too wide for my taste. Pen comes back, very good job done, lovely and smooth. Now it writes about two pages and then the ink dries up. I thought this time it must be an issue with flow. I thoroughly cleaned it again, flushed through with the converter, carefully cleaned all the nib and feed section and inked it with a wet, free-flowing ink.....same problem. Should I just give up on this thing as a lost cause, or am I missing something?
