    Sailor new release

Are there any rumors on what sailor will produce next on their fp lineup, specially after the introduction of the 400 limited edition naginata KOP ? Are there any rumors for more specialty nibs on the KOP model ? Or anything unique for their anniversary maybe ? Since sailor has been really active these days!

    Sailor Anniversary Pen

When did sailor start their anniversary pens ? How often did they produce one ? Did they all have specialty nibs ? Pictures and references are always a plus !
  4. The press release was announced: see here Seems to be 7 unique colored inks and pens for the 7 gods of fortune and a Emperor Mt. 5. Hello again! This is my review of the 90th Anniversary Edition limited release of the Montblanc Meisterstuck 149 with a medium nib. I this was the third pen I purchased as part of my birthday splurge, and is also the third Montblanc that I own (second 149). Conventionally, I would never dream of buying a 149 in-store, as Montblanc decrees that no lower price than their dictated one be displayed on their new products. However, I was wandering around my local shopping centre, and saw a 149 with a sale tag on it in the window of Ernest Jones. Due to the lack of a box and it being a display piece, the price listed was but 40% of the usual list price for the pen, so I simply couldn't resist! As an aside, the images got butchered by the uploader somehow, so if you wish to see the intended images, I have a Flickr link at the end with the highest quality versions. Dimensions Presentation and appearance Fit and finish Filling system Ergonomics Nib performance Closing thoughts and conclusion Dimensions Length capped - 144mm Length uncapped - 130mm Nib length - 28mm Section length - 16mm Section diameter lo - 13.3mm Section diameter hi - 12.8mm Presentation and Appearance Having not come with the original box, I can't fully comment on this aspect of the pen (they gave me a standard 149 box for the pen to take it home). From what I have seen though, the 90th AE packaging is merely a standard 149 clamshell presentation box, but with a completely redone graphic set on the cardboard outer sleeve. Perhaps somewhat dissatisfying considering the price and significance of the pen, but it seems that sometimes 149s come with the large square box with an ink bottle, and others with the smaller-than-Pelikan's snap close box, so no comment there... I am sure you have all seen a 149 image before, and the majority of you will likely have watched a video or read about them somewhere, so forgive me if you have read this before (you are free to skip if you feel as though it sounds like a less catchy marketing dossier). In my opinion, and that of a great number of others, the 149 exudes 'presence', in that whilst it is not necessarily my largest pen (that goes to the OMAS Paragon) nor my most outwardly flashy pen (probably a title taken by the Homo Sapiens Crystal), but it is the one that you are aware is there, and more often than not the eye is drawn to. Whatever your opinion on the 149's appearance, whether you like it or loathe it, you will likely be hard-pressed to argue that it isn't a classic design, and at that, one which has remained so since its conception and will probably last long after this current peak in fountain pen interest we seem to have found ourselves in. There are three words that my friends and colleagues generally use to describe the pen; classy, elegant and stylish - even to the uninitiated this pen has an impact, moreso than others. Whilst I was not initially a huge fan of the 149 style, over the past year of owning my 149, then 146 Pt Line, and now this one, I have found myself increasingly appreciating the aesthetics and styling on the pen. To me it just looks right!? The 90th Anniversary Edition features a significantly different nib imprint to that of the usual 149 line. Instead of the bi-colour or tri-colour finish, the nib is wholly rose gold, and a large '90' dominates the surface, with the MB logo and 4810 being shifted down and up respectively to make way. The 90 is filled with tiny stipples, which really highlights the number, and works exceptionally well with the rest of the pen. Something that I believe is a major feature of the Montblanc design is their attention to detail. The subtle hatching in the letters of the cap band. The precise spacing of the gold bands. The stippling within the 90 on the nib to accentuate it. All these little things combine to form a beautifully well executed package. (My attempt at showing the difference between the standard yellow gold on the left and the anniversary rose gold on the right. Even in optimal conditions it is very difficult to fully capture) The key highlight of the pen which really differentiates it from the main line of Montblanc is the rose gold trim. Now, I would like to take a moment to say that I firmly believe this to be the best application of rose gold I have seen. Period. It is subdued without being overly subtle. It is still identifiable as gold without being garish. Lately, companies across all industries have been using 'rose gold' in their lineups, Apple probably being the main offender here. In many cases, the finish is almost pink, for whatever reason, and the result is a colour that looks more like a random pink metal than gold at all. Here though, the difference is very slight. The colour almost looks as though one has turned the shadows and exposure level down to 25% in a photo-editing suite. This has been the first pen where I feel the colour combination truly speaks to me, as opposed to just 'working well together'. I find myself toying with the pen in my hand and turning it around idly, admiring the 'muted' tones of the trim and its relationship with the main body. Although I wouldn't go so far as to say it is a work of art, I will say that it is about as close to perfection as I think I will find when it comes to matching two colours for impact, contrast and aesthetic appeal / draw. Fit and Finish As you might expect from a pen of this price range, the fit and finish is exemplary, with every edge and seam lining up perfectly and running flush against their respective face. The cap requires 1.5 rotations to be detached, and the threads are smooth with only marginal wiggle room. The piston knob sits fully flush with the barrel when totally done up, and is very easy to screw and unscrew, no hitches or sticking here! The only minor grip I have with the pen is that the snow cap on the finial is perhaps 20deg off from lining up with the clip, but this is something that isn't intended to fully line up (afaik), nor is it apparent enough to notice most of the time. Overall, I have nothing to complain about here. My experience with Montblanc and German pen brands in general has always been one living up to the joke about Ze Germanz and their manufacturing standards. Although there are exceptions, I will go out on a limb and say that compared to many other countries, these exceptions are few and far between when compared to some other regions...who we all know and love... Filling System Yeah, its another piston filler. For those of you who are returning to read my review having read my others (for which I am extremely grateful), you will be aware of my preference for pistons. I won't delve into that debate here, as countless others have covered it before. Suffice it to say, the 149's piston performs excellently; smooth, even and just 'the right' amount of resistance to ensure a pleasant operation. The ink window lies a fraction of a millimetre beneath the cap band when it is capped, which is another nice touch in my opinion, and being clear is very easy to tell remaining ink level. I have always preferred the Montblanc implementation of an ink window outside of demonstrators, as I think that the 50% clear 50% obscured effect they have keeps it out of sight when you want it, and easy to gauge when you need it. I am sure some care more than others about this, and there are likely those of you who couldn't care less, but its the little thing ya know! Ergonomics The 149 is famed for being a gigantic pen, whose size and power doth crush the will of lesser pens, Goliath himself wielded a 149 to reduce the armies of David to nothi- oh wait...yeah...nevermind. The 149 is large. Yes. Is it the largest? Not by a long shot. Length wise it is bested by the OMAS Paragon, Visconti Homo Sapiens, Sailor King of Pens, Custom 823 Demo, and many others I won't name. Girth wise, it is definitely up there, but again, probably not deserving of the belief that it is too big for a mortal to use comfortably for casual writing. Personally, I love the size. I have a quadropod grip, which is likely the reason for my enjoyment of the pen's size, but even when I force a 3 finger grip, it is still definitely usable. The length is very comfortable and sits very nicely against the webbing of the hand. Regarding threads, a factor that I am forced to consider more and more after ultimately having to sell the M805 because of this, the threads are not at all sharp, so even if you hold the pen highly, you will probably find this a non-issue. Balance wise, it is definitely biased toward the back end, though not at all uncomfortably, with the balance point being perhaps 2/3 of the way toward the piston end of the barrel. It feels as though you don't need to push with the pen, just guide it and it is capable of writing under its own weight. I never tend to post my pens, but you can definitely do it here, although should you wish to, you might find a shallow relaxed writing angle preferable due to the ungainly shift in weight introduced by the cap. Overall, whilst not my definitive most comfortable pen to use, it is definitely a tied second favourite for comfort and balance, switching places with the Homo Sapiens depending on my mood and preference on that given day. Aaaas usual, the YMMV disclaimer holds true, and this pen more than most should really be tried out in a store before committing to the purchase if you can do this. Nib Performance The nib is a very very nice 18k rose gold medium. Out of the box, the nib was pretty much exactly how it should be; tines aligned and converging at the tip without being too tight. I did flex the nib a teeny weeny bit at first to get the ink flowing just a tad more, but this was more a personal preference than a flaw. Someone mentioned once that Montblanc now polishes their nibs somewhat similarly to Aurora and Pilot; they are smooth, but with definite feedback. This nib is no exception. Being a medium I kind of expected a glass-like level of feedback -so basically none- but instead was given a pencil like experience. It is still smooth as silk with no hitches at all, but you feel every single change in direction and movement, something I am now strangely fond of. The line it puts down is what I would call a perfect 5 in wetness, making it ideal for any writing paper I am likely to encounter in my daily life. Flow is stunning, an area only my Japanese pens have ever managed to be truly up there in (maybe my OMAS as well?) and I can put the pen to paper after any break for it to work immediately. I have every confidence in this pen performing every time I go to use it, just as it should be. Closing Thoughts and Conclusion If you have lasted this long throughout all my rambling, my thanks. I went in with the intention of reducing the words used, but here I found I simply could not to fully convey my opinion. With this pen I have found myself in the fortunate / unfortunate position of seemingly having found my end game in pens. I have recently been able to try a KoP, Aurora, M1000, Divina Elegance and some other flagship pens in a shop, but each time I tried them I knew instantly that they were not for me, or were immediately uncomfortable to use for one reason or another (though it pained me greatly for the Divina and Sailor especially...maybe in time...). I might find myself getting a CONID or something customised eventually after this point, but as far as I can see it, I can't really go up from here. Though my dream pen is a 149 Blue Hour Skeleton, this is something I likely will never be able to reasonably afford, and similarly, other pens I have interest in, or lust for also fall into this category. Thus, for the first time since starting my collection, I find myself utterly content with that which I have. I paid £340 for this pen (I am pretty sure...), which is an absolute steal considering what I got; limited release of a flagship high end pen, months after it was discontinued. Would I have paid full price for it? No I would not, but if I had known how much pleasure it would bring me later down the line? Definitely yes. Is it worth the price? Again, for what I paid I think it is very difficult to argue that it wasn't, compared too the alternatives. Would it have been worth full price? Perhaps, but it depends on your ability to spend and whether you would value paying for the brand name as a significant portion of the price on top of a special edition. In this price range, there are many alternative purchases; M800 special editions, Pelikan M1000 if you are lucky, Sailor KoP editions, Homo Sapiens, etc. Given that this is a limited release special edition pen, for a not insignificant anniversary of one of the most famous of the pen companies, contesting the value of this pen over another in the price I paid is challenging, especially considering potential resale value down the line. At full listed price, you get into the Nakaya and special KoP range, where the workmanship and artisan value of the final piece is often much higher than a Montblanc, once more we find ourselves considering the point of whether it is worth paying the extra for the Montblanc due to the streetcred it gets, or whether you would rather buy it second hand for closer to its actual comparative value. With the unfortunate demise of my M805 and it passing on into the afterlife of another person's collection, after finally concluding that the discomfort in use just wasn't worth owning it, I found myself rotating less and less into my rotation. It got to the point where I was almost every day, for months, carrying this and the two other pens I have reviewed (HS Crystal and Paragon). I now operate two sets of 3 as my carries; my favourites, consisting of the aforementioned offenders, and my 'not-favourite-but-I-still-really-like' group, made of my Opera Elements, vintage Paragon, 146, L2k Stainless and M400 vintage tortoise. If I am not packing a bag, that trio is the set I will reach for each and every time no exception. Although it has taken a while, and many buys, sells and returns, I believe I have found my favourite three pens in these. Higher quality link: https://flic.kr/s/aHskATRPeG My Personal 'Grand Triad'
  6. Hi all, I am really excited to share pictures of the pilot pen I received in mail this morning! I had reached to multiple vendors across Europe and finally found one piece at Stilograph Corsani. Hope you enjoy it. Let me know your thoughts! Cheers, Sidd
  7. So, I recommend you watch Goldspot new video where they talk with Pilot representatives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bUy_DC1Afo So far what's confirmed from the video is the new Pilot Explorer which according to the video will be released on November this year at the price of around $30. I'm actually quite underwhelmed when it is confirmed that it is a plastic barrel. There are also 2 new VPs coming (the other one mentioned near the end of the video) Another hype point is the announcement on mid-September (13th September) regarding the 100th Anniversary releases. I expect no less remembering this is their 100th anniversary though, good stuff hopefully
  8. Greetings everybody! I am a new member here in FPN and I am actually quite nervous to be here (this is actually my first post so NICE TO MEET YOU ALL) So let me get straight to the point: As the title said, apparently I heard that Kuretake is having their 110th Year Anniversary soon (?) and will likely released some limited models, which I would love to have The problem is, I have no more information but that I stated above since their web page have no notice whatsoever and I am left with only this handout (https://imgur.com/a/HBT8CDT) So if anyone have any ideas about this, I would love to hear your news

    Diamine 150Th Anniversary Inks - Part 2

As you will have already seen, Diamine have brought out another eight new inks for their 150th Anniversary range. Great colours and I'm just posting a quick note showing them. They should be available in about three weeks. Just simple notes and my usual method - Rhodia 80gsm dot paper and Lamy Vista M nib. My favourites are Tudor Blue, Purple Dream, Dark Forest, Lilac Night and Espresso, BUT Burgundy Royale and Blood Orange could have their uses! Enjoy.

  12. Hi, I'm William and I'm in Brisbane Australia. I found this group while googling for a solution to problems with my 75th Anniversary Aurora fountain pen. Glad to have joined and I hope someone can help. I bought my Aurora 75th anniversary fountain pen decades ago. It's been unused for a long time. Here is the problem. 1) When I cap the pen, the tip of the nib hits the inside of the cap and pushes the nib out of alignment. 2) I can see this because the nib is rotated slightly on the feeder, and there are marks on the plastic inside the cap. 3) I have tested this by re-aligning the nib/feeder and capping the pen. Same problem. 4) The nib and feeder are inserted into the pen body as far as possible (I remember this when I first bought the pen). The text "Aurora" below the "750" abuts the body of the pen. 5) I suspect the threaded section inside the cap has been moved up and into the cap - pen dropped while capped perhaps - thereby leaving insufficient "headroom" for the nib. 6) How do I pull the threaded section inside the cap outwards a bit ? Kind regards, William.
  13. It just occurred to me that Pentel counts 70 years in business this year. Is anyone aware of any plans for any special edition anniversary products, reintroduction of older models or anything like that? I did a quick web search and wasn´t able to find any relevant information, so I thought I should ask FPN fellows for some help, especially those who are not restricted by the language barrier. Thanks in advance!

    Scala Glacier Anniversary Edition

Happened to be yesterday in Heidelberg and had a close encounter with the LAMY Flagshipstore there. I found another Anniversary Edition that I have not seen mentioned here. It is a Glacier Blue Scala in an Anniversary box with a bottle of ink and converter, 14K nib and Anniversary engraving on the capband. According the lady in the store this one is only available in the Flagship store. They had a Anniversary boxed set of a notebook and BP as well.

    New Diamine 150Th Anniversary Inks!

Anniversary Collection – on release from 17th November 2014. To celebrate 150 years of the Diamine brand they have created the “Anniversary Collection”. The new triangular design ink bottles contain 40ml and will be available in eight stunning colours: these bottles when collected can be arranged into a beautiful round desk display. I haven't been given any notification of price point yet but unlike the previous two Diamine collections, all these new inks will be available separately from the start. AND there are possible rumours of additional colours in the future! As usual, my scans are of dip-tested writing, using Lamy Safari pens with M nibs. I use a small sable paintbrush for the 'swatches' but don't re-dip the brush between each one. The paper is my normal Rhodia 80gsm dot grid A5. Diamine 1864 Blue Black As you might expect, this is my favourite of all the Anniversary inks. A wonderful, rich dark blue-black with plenty of character. Obviously suitable for business and personal use and when compared alongside a black ink, 1864 definitely isn't! Fabulous! Diamine Silver Fox This is a mid grey in my opinion and although not one of my favourite 'colours' this one from Diamine will almost certainly be a winner. Along with Graphite, it will certainly find its way into my collection. Diamine Regency Blue A wonderful, deep blue which is nice and rich. Plenty of character and this again could be used for business and personal writing. Diamine have been careful not to make these inks similar to any others of their range and I can't compare it to any at all. Obviously, others out there might well liken them to others by different manufacturers but that's all part of the fun, isn't it?! Diamine Safari What can one say? The 'missing link' between Salamander and Evergreen! A fantastic colour and one which will definitely get into the Limoges collection. My joint second-favourite, it reminds me of that wonderful 'bush' grass colour and if I had to compare this one, I'd say it was like Epinard. But I could be wrong...! Diamine Carnival Gorgeous red – if that's your bag! I don't use them as a rule but have to say that this ink and colour impressed me a lot. I can imagine it being popular and, along with Ciamine/Cult Pens Deep Dark Red, could well complete my collection at this part of the spectrum. Diamine Blue Velvet This wonderful ink is my second-favourite of the set; but only just and by the proverbial gnat's whisker! Bright and cheerful are the best words I can use to describe it and I just love it. It seems to be between Aster and Cornflower from the Flower set and it fits in that gap nicely. A lovely blue and my second favourite of the set. Diamine Terracotta This one has grown on me since I did the test and have typed this out. Not too pale at all and even dipped and on Rhodia it seems to shade quite well. Not that that bothers me in the slightest. A good colour but not one of my usual ranges. Diamine Tropical Green A good mid green with just a hint towards the blue side, according to my eyes. I bet it would look great on ivory or yellow/legal paper. It could be the only green to get if that's a colour that you hadn't considered before. As I mentioned, these eight inks are being sold separately and that is going to be a real bonus for Diamine. A newly-designed and hand-illustrated box with ink colour label completes the packaging. Each bottle is labelled uniquely, with the colour on the label and side panels which are printed on the sides of the boxes although that isn't quite clear from the photograph, supplied by Diamine.) This example is for the 1864 Blue Black. Finally, as if we didn't know, the inks have been developed to celebrate the 150th Anniversary. May we all wish Diamine well - a wonderful British achievement!

    Montblanc 2016

Next year, 2016, Montblanc celebrates its 110th anniversary. It will release the memorial writing Instruments and other items. If you get Information about the products, let's write in this thread!!
  17. I have been fortunate enough to receive a bottle of J Herbin 1670 Emerald of Chivor to review. It's my understanding that it's due to be released in August. So I'm going to write with it over several days and post my experiences on this thread. I have filled my Pilot Custom 74 M nib with it so far, so this is the pen I'm using today. However, I can easily change that M nib to a F one from my CH92, so I plan to do that as a comparison. Then I will use a different pen and nib type. First things first, this ink oozes quality. It feels beautifully smooth and lubricated from the pen. It is very saturated and shows lots of different shading, as well as it's sheen. In my opinion it isn't what I would call an emerald colour, as I think of emeralds as a vibrant green. This ink is teal blue-green. When I started writing with it I thought I must compare the colour to that of Sailor Yama-dori, so that's something I will add over the course of the next few days. I've now edited this to include a short comparison with sailor Yama-dori, plus I've attempted to show the fabulous sheen.
  18. So here is my story of what I did with both my 146 and 149 75th anniversary fountain pens both with rose gold trim and MOP and limited to 1924 pieces. When I first bought them, they arrived with Med nibs and I used them for only short time before I opted for an EF nib size exchange. The service was excellent and both pens arrived back in less than 8 weeks. I started to use both of them and just could not get used to the way the tiny nib end would drag on the writing surface. I was completely bummed because I new at that point that I had made a terrible mistake in sending for an exchange. So I had no choice but to send them back for another fitting of a M nib. Luckily, one of the nibs was ok so they just charged me a small service fee, but the other had been nicked so I had to pay the full fee again for that one. I am very happy to have them back and now fully understand why most people prefer the med nib as opposed to something narrower. It just writes ever so smoothly on the surface. Lesson learned and pricey one if I may add. Enjoy the week!!
  19. I have been left two boxed, unused, Mont Blanc 163, Pinstripe 75thAnniversary pens, with gold inlays, mother of pearl symbol, and inset diamond. One is a rollerball, one a fountain pen. They are unused, with celebration boxes and Mont Blanc booklet. Rollerball is number 0261 and the fountain pen number 1465 Without me trying to find an impartial valuer, does anyone have an idea of values? Many thanks Ian
  20. Hi! I'm about to put on sale Pelikan's 75th Anniversary LE in a mint condition (never used, all boxes etc) with a good discount and kind of can't decide on price. It was sold at Bonham's for $6875 (http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21816/lot/1304/) in December'14, whereas at Penporium it is listed for $18500 (http://www.penporium.com/product-p/574.htm). So, in my opinion $7K is pretty low, but at the same time $18,5K is quite a number. If I am not mistaken, the MSRP was around 7500 Euro initially, but after submitting the pen to the market, Pelikan managers stated that the initial MSRP suggestion was wrong (too low). I guess that a fair market price would be somewhere between $12k–$17 (without discount). What do you think is the most appropriate figure? Thanks!
  21. Finally, I got round to the soak tests of these wonderful new inks and the results were rather surprising, to say the least. For dye-based inks, there are one or two that really have great qualities. As you can see below. Before: After: I have to say that the paper I use for these soaks is pretty dire and shouldn't be considered indicative of any lasting permanence etc. But; a half-hour soak in cold water, as usual, followed by a vigorous tap rinse, isn't a bad indication of what could happen and as most of us are probably only prone to the odd spill now and again: well... Great inks and just look at Safari...!

    Omas Michelangelo Anniversary Le

Here are some photos of the new Omas Michelangelo, with Omas Press Release info and photos! The LE is made of the same marble as the David sculpture - Carrara marble from Tuscany, Italy. It's a pretty sophisticated piece so I assume it's gonna be pricey! 24. J HERBIN’s ROUGE HEMATITE LOOKS TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE Does an ink having more saturation than usual can have good flow properties in a pen? Can an ink having good flow properties in a pen can show no feathering/ bleeding tendencies on paper? Both anwers can be “ Yes” if you are using J Herbin’s Rouge Hematite . J Herbin’s 1670 Rouge Hematite, Anniversary Edition. So what’s about it? CLAIMS This is what J Herbin claims – “ To celebrate the 340th Anniversary of the brand, we are introducing the “ 1670” ink especially formulated for this event. With a dark red color and earthy tone,it is a reminder of the historic color of the Herbin logo and the sealing wax by the members of royal courts. This rich deepdye will bring brightness and majesty to all your writing”. Probably calling this as just another FP ink may be under estimating it. So here the review goes… BOTTLE, COVER The cover shows earthy red and golden colors, an indication of what this ink is going to deliver. Bottle design - So radical, so classy…. An any day head turner. Bottle, Opened…The cap is made of combination of Aluminium and Rubber, have a nice feel in hand. Get past the appearance of the bottle to reveal the flaw – Bye Big pens..! COLOR The ink writes on paper with a bright red color and then dries to an earthy tone as the booklet describes. An impressive bright red with an earthy tone. Swab. See the golden tinge. This is the most peculiar feature of this ink. Swab color analysis of area with out golden tinge - shows Reddish brown on brighter side. Swab analysis of area with golden tinge- shows more Yellow still on very bright side. It’s strange that chromatography do not reveal any Yellow or Brown tone. It simply shows Red and Pink components. I believe the golden tone appears where the ink is dried with out much absorption. Where there is more absorption like a swab, the gold tinge can not appear. This is more in line with the property of the dye used rather than any suspended particles, but I am not sure. COLOR ON PAPER BRIGHT.. STRONG… AND CHEERFUL..! Yes, a bright, saturated and happy color. With a Fine nib. [ With Medium nib. Passes. PROPERTIES IN PEN Testing materials include Camlin Trinity Fine nib Convertor Filled Lamy Safari Medium Convertor Filled Wingsung Medium Aerometric Filled Kim Small Medium stub Eyedropper Filled Camlin trinity Fine nib writing sample Lamy Medium nib writing sample Kim stub writing sample. With nib changed to a Broader one. See the golden tinge more and more appearing with broader ( and more flow) nibs.
  25. Saw these lovely white notepads mentioned in a recent Goulet e-newsletter. I've been waiting patiently for them to surface in any online UK retailers but I have not come across them yet. Anyone know if these will be available in the UK or EU? I've been googling but to no avail... ps: So sorry my first ever post in this forum is turning out to be a selfish request for information. Will introduce myself properly in the appropriate forum very soon!
