  1. Hi, I recently purchased the stainless steel version of the Lamy 2000 fountain pen and I have a question regarding a possible defect in the pen. The version of the pen that I purchased has metal finger tabs extending from the O-ring between the piece of the pen attaching to the nib and the piece constituting the main body of the pen. Previously, I had owned the fiber-glass version of the Lamy 2000, and the finger tabs, if I recall correctly, were located to 9 and 3 o'clock on the pen. I.e., when looking directly at the nib, the finger tabs were on a line parallel with the nib. On my new stainless steel Lamy 2000, however, the finger tabs are askew, at roughly 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock, i.e. on a line diagonal to the nib. Is this a possible defect to the pen, or is it a normal design feature? Thanks in advance for your responses. [PS: I sent a similar inquiry to Lamy, but am posting the question here in the interests of thoroughness/getting an independent opinion.]

    Kaweco Perkeo Nib Alignment

Hello All, I've bought a Kaweco Perkeo when they came out since they perfect daily pens (full size, good nib, nice retro colors, etc.), however the pen's nib tines are visibly out of alignment. I noticed that the nib is also not aligned on the feed and I aligned it by holding from sides with a cloth. This alignment equalized the nib more or less, but it's not perfect. I can still see some difference even with naked eye, however the pen is writing much more smoothly now. I also tried to align the nibs by nudging by my nail, but since it's both a daily driver and a lower end pen aimed to beginners, the nib is very springy. It retains its tine positions very well. Did anyone experienced a similar issue? How can I fix the issue? Thanks in advance, Hakan
  3. Hello... I recently acquired a Parker 51 and while examining it I felt like the nib is not correctly aligned. I'm new to FPs so I could be wrong, and it'll be super to get your opinion on this. Also, if it is misaligned, is it possible to fix it, and where in Mumbai / Delhi can it be done? Here are some images:

    Misalignment Of Nibs

Hi all, Recently I got an old Waterman's Ideal wet noodle as a part of larger collection, but the issue is that the tines are not properly aligned, so it works okay on the down stroke, but is scratchy on the upstrokes and sidestrokes, can anyone help me on how to set this right, I have a little experience in regrinding nibs, but don't have any idea about alignment, also I am too afraid to damage the nib, as it is old, and these wet noodles are very difficult to find in India.
  5. I own a Parker Urban Fountain Pen which was dropped and suffered from a nib misalignment. The nib was misplaced slightly to the left. Is there a step by step way to do this? I believe it involves heat, but I don't know the proper way to heat the pen without damaging the plastic.
  6. I'm new to FPN, but I've used fountain pens for a long time now and I'm prepared to help others. First lets get ink flow adjusted.[NOTE THAT THESE ACTIONS WILL MOST LIKELY VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR PEN. I REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BRAKING/ INEFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR PEN. YOU FOLLOW MY ADVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK] You probably want to detach the nib if you can, as it is less likely to break if you do. Wash it and place it on a hard surface that is covered with a cloth or tissues. Place it wih the nib facing upwards and press down with your index finger until it splits down the middle(not breaking but split down the line that splits the tines). Hold for ten seconds then attach back to the feed. Rinse and repeat until satisfactory. Next, the scratchiness. The main cause for scratchiness is misalignment. If you modified the ink flow, the alignment may be slightly off. Take off the nib and wash it(again). Then, grip the shoulders of the nib and look at it so that you see the tip of the nib. Push one of the times up or down until fully aligned. With a non detachable nib, you can do the alignment with the same method. But for the ink flow press the nib against paper so it splits in the same fashion. Hold for ten seconds and rinse and repeat until satisfactory. Again, you may need to realign the tines. Thanks for reading!

    Parker 51 Nib Issue

I've got a Parker 51 that I can't get the tines aligned, its always scratchy and any time I try to adjust it it just ends up right back where I started. I've had it worked on by a professional, and while it seemed to be ok at first, after a day or 2 it was back to scratchy. It seems that any time the hood is screwed back on it squeezes the nib and forces the tines out of alignment. Has anyone had issues like this, and is there anything that can be done to aleviate the problem? I've heard so much good stuff about Parker 51s, but I have had nothing but headaches from this pen. Thanks

    A Useful Tool!

while i do not(yet) repair pens myself, i have something that may be useful when adjusting nib tines. The Eye Clops microscope is a handheld digital microscope, and does 100x, 200x, and 400x magnification. it has lights built in to light up the object, a screen showing the magnified object, and can take picture or video, if need be you need to post it somewhere. downside is, im not sure how practical it is, and you dont really need the 200x and 400x for obvious reasons. another downside is the need to hold the pen and the microscope, unless you can figure out a mount for the scope and pen, because its a bit tricky to adjust the pen correctly to the microscope at such high magnifications. a pen mount is optional but will free up both hands and keep you from having to adjust it to keep it a sharp image. i would post samples but im having quite a time finding the usb that plugs into the top...
