    Diamine Autumn Oak

Disclosure: I received a 30ml bottle of this ink free from Cult Pens with no obligations. Thanks guys! Holy mother of shade! This is a spectacular ink from Diamine released 1 August 2014. Awesome shading and a great colour makes this ink an absolute winner for me. Will I buy it when my sample runs out? You bet! In a gallon bottle, if they sell it. USAGE DAILY WRITER: Probably not (??) BUSINESS USE: For marginal notes and minor edits, perhaps ILLUSTRATIONS: Lovely colour if you can control the shading NOTES: Oh yes! LETTERS: For short letters, absolutely. May overwhelm beyond a couple of pages. LOVE LETTERS: A candidate PERFORMANCE FEATHERING: 4/4 - not even with the 2.4mm nib on cartridge stock BLEEDTHROUGH: 3.5/4 - only with the very wettest writers SHADING: 5/4 SHEEN: 0/4 - looks like contender but none seen FLOW: medium - dry WATERPROOF: 0/4 - not at all DRYING TIME: 3/4 FADE RESISTANCE: (not tested, not likely) [Note: my scanner always struggle with heavy shading - hope you get the idea from the images below.] Review on new ("brushed") Rhodia (For the writing samples I accidentally put a fine nib on the pen that should have had the medium - apologies!) [The text is from the second letter of St Paul to the Corinthians, 2 Cor 11:7-29, which was the Office of Readings yesterday when I wrote it.] Writing on Rhodia dot pad: On Rhodia R On our corporate printer's stock cartridge paper I love this ink!

    Diamine Tyrian Purple

Disclosure: I received a 30ml bottle of this ink free from Cult Pens with no obligations. Thanks guys! You have to try this ink! Buy, beg, borrow, steal, ... a sample from somewhere. Even if you do not like the colour and do not care for the shading. There is something about how this ink feels that is tremendously satisfying. The wetness and lubrication is just so. This ink was released on 1 August 2014. The Wikipedia article on Tyrian Purple is interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrian_purple USAGE DAILY WRITER: Certainly. BUSINESS USE: Yes, with the usual caveats about any ink with red components. ILLUSTRATIONS: Oh yes! Can cover large areas. NOTES: Yes. LETTERS: Yes, please! Do send me letters with this ink. LOVE LETTERS: Absolutely! More romantic than passionate. PERFORMANCE FEATHERING: 4/4 - none at 10x magnification with the flex writing BLEEDTHROUGH: 3/4 - very minimal; only seen on the poorest papers SHADING: 3/4 - really beautiful shading that does not overwhelm SHEEN: 0/4 - none seen FLOW: medium - high with great lubrication WATERPROOF: 1/4 - faint lines remain, possibly enough to read the text DRYING TIME: 2/4 FADE RESISTANCE: (not tested) Review [The writing samples are from the instructions of St Cyril of Jerusalem to the catechumens, dated circa AD 350.] On Rhodia dot pad On Rhodia R On our corporate printer's stock cartridge paper
  3. Sarj, the one-man penshow, and Jas are coming to Wrocław, which was the only reason needed to organize a Pen Posse. But this is Europe, so Pen Posse translated into European is Pen Salon, and we will hold it at the lovely Steinhaus Restaurant on ul. Włodkowica. Saturday, 24 May 2014 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Restauracja Steinhaus Pawła Włodkowica 11, 50-072 Wrocław, Poland For those of you on Facebook, you can check out the event page there: Pen Salon Steinhaus. There is no fee to display your pens and paraphernalia, as this is not a pen show, per se. Trading and selling are, of course, permitted, but are not the focus of Pen Salon, which will also be open to the public, free. Rather, Pen Salon is a time and place for old friends and new to spend a few hours together, talking pens (or whatever), enjoying beverages, snacks, or meals, and spreading knowledge and the joy of fountain pens with whomever happens to attend. After 5:00, the plan is to dine at Steinhaus (who has generously given us the use of their meeting room downstairs at no charge). [Note: We dined at Steinhaus and enjoyed the meal very much before realizing it could be the perfect place for Pen Salon.] And if the company of Sarj and Jas and other pen aficionados (some travelling from other countries) and (cross your fingers) possibly kwzi of KWZ Inks (Warsaw) and the many pens we expect will be on display (and for trade or sale) are not enough, Pen Salon Steinhaus is located in the beautiful, old city of Wrocław. I will be posting photos of this lovely city as enticement. You don't have to RSVP, but if you plan to attend, please let me know (you can PM me) so that I have an idea of how many people to expect. If you want to bring pens to trade or sell, be aware that tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Otherwise, I expect a casual atmosphere where we can all relax and share in our love of all things fountain pen. I'll post more details (such as if a calligrapher will attend, and if she will bring her music and possibly perform a couple of songs - as of now, an unsubstantiated rumor).
