  1. Recently I got my hands on this supposedly green striated 120 Merz & Krell https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/uploads/imgs/fpn_1511041362__pelikan_120_striated.jpg As a green striated Merz & Krell 120 was never documented I asked one of the Pelikan Gurus in Germany about his opinion. He reminded me that the 400NN from Merz & Krell has the same size of barrel. Here the two side by side https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/uploads/imgs/fpn_1511041384__pelikan_120_400nn.jpg In fact the only difference is in the section: The 400NN has a flared section and the 120 a strait one. I took out the nib of a real 120, the straited one and a 400NN and took a photo side by side from the front (120 left, 120 striated middle, 400NN right) https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/uploads/imgs/fpn_1511041122__comparison1.jpg You can see that the 120 has a smooth front and the 400NN has 6 small indentation in the front, the striated in the middle has the same indentations and other signs that it was machined from a 400NN barrel. Conclusion: Someone has fabricated a 120 green striated, using a barrel from a green striated 400NN If this was done by a worker in the factory or later we will probably never know, but there could be another hint, All of the 120 M&K I have, have a Pelikan120 imprint in the cap plastic, The cap that came with the pen has no cap imprint, but it has the correct capband with the correct stamping. Anyone has heart about this pen before???
  2. Does anyone know if I can replace Pelikan 120 nib with a modern M150 or M200 nib? I don't want to replace the feed, I like the old style feed better, but I would like to replace EF with F or M nib. I apologise if this was already discussed, if it was could someone send me the link please? Thanks

Pelikan 120 Merz & Krell Prototype?

Recently I saw this 120 Merz und Krell on Ebay and was curios enough to buy it. The seller guesses that it may be a prototype. Have a look at the pictures, that shows a normal 120 and the odd one to compare: I do not see any difference comparing the capsNo difference at the filling knob and nib endSame imprints and cap ring inscriptionsThe barrel color is darker on the odd one The big difference is the ink window. The odd one has a striped ink window, double the length of the normal one. It even shows with the cap on.It has fine longitudinal stripes in the barrel color on clear transparent plastic. I do not know how the barrel of the normal one is manufactured, but the ink window of the odd one shows clear seems on the nib and barrel side and seems to be glued in. Is there someone out there that could shed light on the origin of this pen?

    Pelikan 120 Problems

Hi all, I'm having a problem, and am hoping to receive some advice. I just received a Pelikan 120 (the older, non-M&K model) in the mail, and after flushing it with water filled it with ink. It was skippy and dry, so I flushed it with water again and, for heaven knows what reason, I thought to take the nib unit out of the pen. I had read that Pelikan nib units simply unscrew much the way Soenneckens and Reforms do. Imagine my surprise when instead of the nib unit unscrewing, the feed and nib came loose in my hand! It appears as though the base of the nib unit is stuck to the barrel. So my questions are: (1) Did I do wrong in attempting to unscrew the nib unit? (2) What would it take to fix this problem, as well as the problem of the dry and skippy writing? (3) Failing a quick, home fix, to whom should I send the pen for repairs? I thought this would be a nice introduction to Pelikan pens. I'm worried I have asked for a headache instead! Best,
