  1. Hello FPNers - I’m searching for a burgundy ink that tends more toward purple than red. Purgundy? Burple? I like wet inks that are highly saturated, rather than milky or murky in appearance. Shading is nice, but not required. Thanks! GNL
  2. Hello FPNers, It’s been a long time since I posted here, as I fell out of love with my many fountain pens for a while due to inky fingers. But I’ve recently returned to the fold and ordered a new pen, a Pelikan M600 in blue, fine point. I would have probably bought medium point, but fine was all the retailer had left in time for my upcoming birthday, so I went for it. I’ve been reading quite a bit since and discovered that Pelikan’s fine is wider than most, so perhaps it was serendipitous. In any case, to get the most out of my fine-point Pelikan, I’d like to know what brands of bottled ink are the wettest, so that my fine-point pen will write as juicy and broad as possible. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Gary

  4. Hi Awsome Network Bloggers, I am having a bit of a problem with ink drips collecting at the nibs of Platinum Preppy fine point eyedropper converted pens. Of course I have recently enjoyed converting all of the Platinum Preppy's to an eyeropper converted style when the trouble started. They were perfect writers with their own cartridge and ink brand. I'm needing some advice on a middle of the road ink that is not too dry nor too wet I'm thinking. Perhaps some experience with problems concerning Preppy eyedroppers out there. The ink that leaked first was Mont Blanc's Lavendar Purple in the purple converted Preppy which I love...then immediately again in another converted pink Preppy pen with Pilot's Kosumosu. Strangly, the complete opposite was true in the same pen with Diamine's Carnation which was so "dry" I could not get the ink to flow nor the pen to write! I love these pens for basic daily writing because I love the absolute juicyness of that particular fine point, it's cheap so I can test my own mountain of ink without the fear of ruining my expensive pens, and the fact if I lose it I probably won't go crazy looking for it if it gets misplaced but that is most likely not going to happen sadly. I just need to find that sweet spot ink for these pens. Definitely prefer a wet writer, but not so much that after every word I have to tilt the pen up to avoid an ink blot. Could it be the ink level and the air pocket theory are involved here?

    Your Personal Go-To Wet Ink

A bit of background to this question: I purchased my first Pilot recently - a Custom 74 with Music nib - and been very disappointed with the flow. The pen is dry and skippy. And so I tried some of my wetter inks in the pen, among which were two Iroshizukus as well as my trusty Parker Quink Permanent Blue which flows beautifully in all of my pens. Once this failed as well I knew the time has come for my Noodler's Ink Rome Burning, which nearly drips from any of my wetter nibs. I love the hue shift as the ink dries, I love the color, the fact that there is yet another hue shift upon contact with water and that the ink smells the way it does, not to mention the wetness. The one thing I don't love is the bleedthrough but what can you do, can't have it all. I have the usual wet inks such as few Iroshizuku inks, Aurora Black, Herbin's Perle Noire and several others, Monteverde ITF ink, Noodler's Eel inks, PR Tanzanite, etc. but nothing comes close to my bottle of Rome Burning. There may be some inconsistency in Noodler's batches so your RB may not be the same but my bottle is that wet and it is defintiely my go-to ink for drier writers. And so it occurred to me, what are other people's go-to wettest inks? I am aware that there is a lot of threads discussing wet inks and dry inks and all the inks in between but really I am interested in your personal preferred choice of ink (one you do/did own) when you want to turn your pen into a "fire hose", or just want to deal with a dry writer. I am not interested in the usual general ideas about wet inks but specifically in your own personal ones that you actually use. This is just a fun question really - not a troubleshooting one - and I'm looking forward to hear about your experience.
  6. Hello! I am fairly recent to fountain pens, but developing what I believe will be a lifelong obsession. I have a TWSBI Mini EF and love the little fellow. I'm looking primarily for a permanent professional black, black/blue, or dark blue for school and work, where the majority of paper I deal with is fairly cheap. My benchmark so far is Noodler's 54th Mass, which has performed flawlessly on everything! I really love it. However, I don't want to miss out on some spectacular ink I just haven't tried. The problem is that the TWSBI EF seems to run kinda dry, so dry that the original Noodler's black doesn't run smoothly through it on nice paper (which I use when not at the office.) Note, Mass 54 does perform well on both cheap through 90 gsm in this pen, but the original Noodler's black doesn't like nicer paper in this pen/ink combo. In short, does anyone have any suggestions for a permanent black, blue/black, blue that'll run well through a drier nib, particularly if you use it in your TWSBI ef?
  7. So, I just bought this cool little pen with a cool little needlepoint for sketching and tiny twee notes. It's a dry writer and Michael Masuyama is no joke--it really is a foine nib--so I'm a little perplexed as to ink. The included cartridge is a pretty blue but the ink sometimes looks well-nigh invisible since the line is so very thin! I don't want to abuse this precious nib, so any ideas for a dark, possibly black ink that will show up and flow well, yet maintain the delicacy of the line? Thanks!
