I don't think I am remotely the first person to notice that the "blue-black" is a misnomer! It's a pretty blue, tending a bit teal, but I cannot for the life of me see any black in it. It's also a little pale to read in this italic nib, and also in the finer nibs I have tried. I'd probably want to use this with a thicker nib and a wet writer for legibility. Still, it's such a nicely behaved ink that I'm very fond of it, even if I'll probably move on to one of Diamine's many blue offerings when the bottle's through. (If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears!)

Looking at two ads on eBay for a Carene, one described as "velvet purple" and the other one as "velvet blue", the purple one looks more like blue to me and the blue one more like grey or even black. I know colors can look completely different in a different light and it can be hard to distinguish from photos, but which colors do you think they are?

Dear friends: I have recently won a vintage Waterman fountain pen. The seller said that this pen has 1 hundred years old. It is a Waterman lever fountain pen, pearl green. The nib reads "Signature 4 F" and on the body reads Waterman's made in Canada Fountain Pen When I received the pen, I have discovered that the lever doesn't work (broken). I have attached a few pictures that Illustrates my words much more. My questions are, this pen is an ORIGINAL Waterman fountain pen, or it is a fake? The lever system can be repaired? Hey guys! Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a 19 year old Pharamacology student (pre-med) and I actually just recently took an interest in fountain pens (about a week ago). I then went out and purchased a pack of Pilot Varsities from my local OfficeMax to see whether FP's are for me. I loved the way the FP's wrote, and now I can't even fathom how nice it would be to use a better FP for my daily writing. My professor even complimented my pen while we were taking a quiz last week. I'm currently awaiting my shipment of FP's and Ink to arrive. I ordered a Lamy Safari (F), a Pilot Metropolitan (M), The Lamy Z24 Converter, and some Waterman's Havana Brown ink. I've basically been getting my fix of FP's from Youtube video's this past week. LOL. I also went out and purchased a dip pen a few days back and a bottle of Higgin's black Ink. It's been a fun few days. I'd appreciate it if you guys could give me some advice on how I can make my FP experience as enjoyable as possible. I'd love to here from all of you FPN veterans. Also, I'm looking for suggestions as to what my next pen in my collection should be. I'm thinking of upgrading to a gold plated nib that write nicely. I'm also a college student so please keep suggested pens relatively cheap. Thank everyone! -Fahad

We just bought our first grown up fountain pen. I say 'grown up" because my daughter used a children's fountain pen for six years in school. None of those pens were expensive. Yesterday, we purchased a Waterman Apostrophe. My question is do we only use Waterman ink or can we use any ink? I saw a beautiful blue ink that some one was using with their Lamy 2000 pen. Thanks

This is my first topic in the Waterman section (if anything needs changing like pictures need to be uploaded in a different format, please let me know ) , I hope for many more topics and many more pens in the near (or distant) future I recently went into my local shop and fell in love with these pens, I was looking for a fountain pen, but ended up buying a rollerball as well. (over a 2 day period! ) I love these Waterman pens, just amazing and such a nice feel in your hand. They write really good too I hope you enjoy the pictures. Hello everyone I have just registered this site hoping that I could have my problem solved,hopefully. I have a laureat fountain pen(I think it is newer version) that has a broken nib. Because it was a gift from my father, I have been trying to finda replacement nib but so far no good. Is there any site or person who sells them? I do not have much money so I just want the nibs . If you guys know any sites or if you are willing to sell me one please reply so that we can talk about it. Sorry if my english sounds strange( i am a foreigner) and thank you in advance.

In a panicked, nervous state and unable to sleep, I thought I'd calm myself by trying out a few pens. I've been torn with the idea of which pens I want to keep and which I want to sell. I have a few vintage pens and though they are all nice in their own ways, I've been looking for a low cost, high quality way of getting the most out of the inks I love. I like an ink that gives strong shading characteristics. So, the ideal pen for me is a flex pen that actually doesn't write too wetly. My Noodler's Ahab (which I've modified as described here) gives nice flex, but it doesn't really "do" anything like hairlines, returns are a bit slow for my tastes, and it writes so wetly that you don't get a chance to really do any shading. You just get a fat, wet line. Anyhow, these are 5 different samples I did with Noodler's Golden Brown (sample 1 must have had a little leftover blue in it). I'd like to know what you think of each pen and why specifically. Note: Please excuse the overall sad quality of the scan and the handwriting. This is my first post! I think I'll take a note from everybody else and just do a photograph in the future for this sort of thing.

I have a great (possibly stupid) idea of getting a Waterman 52V pen for the flex goodness, but can't get over the lever filler system, which really does not ring well with me. Ideally I'd like to somehow modify it to take the Pilot CON 70 for the awesome capacity, but I don't know where to start with that. Can the nib and feed of a Waterman 52 1/2 V, for example, be fitted to any modern Waterman model? I am really unfamiliar with Waterman pens so I would have no idea where to look. If so, what model or line of models?

I recently picked up a NOS Fontainbleau Man 100 in Havana Brown from a shop in Kralingen while visiting. The pen is a wonderful writer when dipped, but I discovered on my return to the states the there is a problem with the feed taking ink from the converter to the nib. Specifically, it doesn't do so unless forced. The pen will draw ink from a bottle, so the feed is not totally blocked. But the pen won't write unless I force ink into it by twisting the converter. Then, once the ink from the twist is used up, the pen stops writing again. I tried repeatedly flushing the feed with a syringe and water doe travel through the feed, so it is not totally blocked. I also soaked the feed overnight in a water/detergent mixture. Today it is soaking in a water/ammonia mixture. What can I do to fix this? Please help!

Hi, i just purchased a pack of Waterman pink rose (large) cartridge. It was ordered from an online shop. I think something is just not right. But as this is my first Waterman cartridge, i need help. The pack that i received seems to be almost half empty. Hence a picture of your new cartridge will be highly appreciated. As i will be able to question the seller. And it was not purchased from eBay. Hi everyone, a friend asked me to try 'n repair a couple of old pens, originally belonging to his grandfather. There are two parker and a sheaffer, but I can handle those. The kicker is the fourth pen: It's a black, faded to brown waterman with a 2 written on the nib and a 72 written on the butt of the pen. I must say I've never heard of a 72. So I'm asking you for some information before I continue. 1) Does this exist, or is what I think is a 7 actually a faded 1 ? 2) When was it produced ? 3) What's the working mechanism ? (If it's a safety, I'm sending it off for repairs) 4) Any tips, tricks or warnings in restoring this ? Thanks in advance, M.

Hello FPN Users, I have recently purchased a 2010 model hemisphere and it's on it's way in the post. I was wondering if I am able to fit an international standard converter, namely the monteverde mini converter. Some say they only take waterman converters, others say that it will fit. Can someone please answer this for me. Thanks ~Jake

Hello All, I have recently purchased a Waterman 52 1/2V fountain pen with a flexible nib and have restored it to good condition. However, I find the flow to the nib to much too wet. Both the hairlines and the broad lines pool with ink, and sometimes the broad lines will be nearly black when using my diamine midnight ink. The pen is practically incapable of writing on cheap paper due to excessive feathering. Is there a way to reduce the flow? I am sorry if there were other resources with this information, but I could only find information relating to reducing the ink flow to a firm nib, which included adjusting the tine gap. Obviously, this would not prove very effective when the tines flex. Also, another minor question. I have aligned the tines on the nib when the nib is off the pen, but when placed into the section with the feed, the feed pushes unevenly on one tine, slightly misaligning it. It still writes, as the issue is small, but will I need to sand the feed down to be more even if I want this problem alleviated? Thanks for the help, Allan

Hello poeple, I have been a passionate user of ink pens since past 10 years. Even now, after I have graduated I still use ink pen for all my writing needs. In my childhood there was never a complain of ink clogging problems since we only had availability of 1 - 2 brands of ink and the pens we used to be in a normal price range. Off late after I brought a Mont Blanc Midnight blue (Blue - Black) which is a permanent ink, which is not mentioned on the box, I had started using it and it clogged my sheaffer prelude badly, which I have now given for repairing but my Parker 45 survived it. After this incident I have stopped using that ink. Now I have started using Waterman Blue Black and Parker Quink Blue Black ink. I am planning to purchase a purple or a black colour ink for my Parker Premier Black / Monochrome edition. This time I want to be perfectly safe and the ink brands which are available in my region are: 1. Waterman 2. Parker 3. Pelikan Edelstein 4. Mont Blanc PS: Quink Blue Black does not mention to be a permanent ink, but is it really one? I found quite a lot of people saying it to be a permanent ink but it doesn’t feel though. I have read reviews but I would like to know personal experience of people using it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Pranav B
