I've had this ink for years, but never gave it all that much love, because my last memory of it was that its colour is pale and muted, and thus unsuitable for use in Fine nibs. My relatively new HongDian N1-S came fitted with a steel EF nib (with no other option on offer, in case you're wondering) that is anything but fine, and so I thought it might put down pale and muted broad(er) lines of ink that make for legible writing. Imagine my surprise when the writing came out looking like blood orange! So, I just have to show you: Oh, the paper used is Rhodia DotPad 80g/m² 5mm dot grid paper (as usual for me), and there was no feathering, no show-through, no bleed-through, and no sheen observed.

Robert Oster Signature Inks are a new line coming out of South Australia and are making enthusiasts sit up and take notice! They are very competitively priced too. So, I acquired a handful of these, thus: Moss Emerald Green Deep Sea Bondi Blue Fire Engine Red Yellow SunsetIn the following short reviews the writing samples are created using an Osmiroid B4 italic nib and an Esterbrook 2048 fitted to a standard XT Esterbrook dip-less pen holder. All writing is by dipping. More time is needed to discover how these inks behave in cartridges, converters or eyedroppers. Swabs and comparisons with other inks will be provided later in the week – I’m all out of Q-tips! Ah, it's the end of another summer's day... Some nice shading here, though I am not sure if it has the range or depth of Noodler's Apache Sunset - the comparison is inevitable. Average dry times on my Rhodia pad. As I was writing the script I was wondering if this was really my thing. After it was on the page for a while I find I quite like it. It will be interesting to try it on off-white or other coloured papers. And of course there is Tomoe River to think of!

It's an absolute shame that Caran d'Ache discontinued this ink. It's one of the best-behaved red inks I've had the pleasure of testing. I'm very glad I got a full bottle when I did. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/540/BezG0z.jpg

Another Yu-yake, another Sunset, from Bung Box (Sailor). I don't have Iroshizuku Yu-yake to compare it with, unfortunately. Packaging Standard Bung Box packaging. It even makes Orange indien, the terribly under-saturated pale ink which I dislike, look so pretty.) (The comparison with other inks is probably not very useful. It's too red to be called an orange, and not red enough to be called a red. I think I can see some pinkish tone in it, as you might see in the "non-shading" part of the writings. All that makes Omaezaki a unique colour. I like this ink but it's not love yet.

Another quick one. This is a lovely bright red-orange but I've found it very difficult to scan to show off the shading. Look at the bottom 3 rows of squares and the tops of the loops in the bottom right. No water resistance, excellent clean-up, good flow, looks pretty in a demonstrator. Nice and cheering on dull days
