Hi all, So I recently got myself a 2 oz bottle of Speedball Super Black India ink, and when I started using it in my Rhodia Webbie with a dip pen, I noticed that the ink bled quite a lot, which I was not expecting at all. I had thought that Carbon based ink would be some of the most well behaved ink, and that the Rhodia, Clairfontaine-made paper would easily stand up to it, being able to handle other, less-well behaved inks. When I turned the page, I noticed how the ink had bled through it quite visibly. Is this a normal thing that happens with India inks, or am I just just unfortunate enough to have received a faulty batch? If so, what can I do to resolve it?

OK, I bought the old Speedball Caligraphy Collectors Set, and the Spencerian Penmanship Mott Media about a year ago maybe? And I set it aside after just a couple of uses. Now I am going to give it another go and I was wondering about a few things. The ink is dry, is there a way to fix this or should I just buy new ink and cleaner? It came with the really small bottles anyway. I also read in another thread here where italic was recommended before moving on to Spencerian. I do not have any issues with this if it would be best. At this point handwriting skill is level ZERO. Can/Should I get a fountain pen to practice with? Or just stick with a dip pen? Also is an oblique holder a must for Spencerian and other scripts? I have no problems with learning it. I was just wondering. I am usually a pro lurker... but maybe this place will bring me more out of my shell. Talk to you soon! Michael -
Fountain Pen Alternative To Speedball C-6 Dip Pen

I used to do my comic strip hand-lettering with Micron pens. I'd like to experiment something different. I heard great comments about the Speedball C-6 dip pen but I'd prefer to use a fountain pen instead. What would be a good fountain pen that could compare to the Speedball C-6 dip pen for comic lettering? Thank you very much. -
from iampeth.com website, i found that i need to align the tip of my nib with the axis of the holder, ( sounds reasonable enough ) However, the nib is ALREADY inserted as far as it will go. Beginner Advice For Pen Type And Paper

I apologise if this was the wrong place to put this So I've been looking to get back into my old love of fountain pens and speed ball pens and I was looking for a little bit of advice because it has been quite a few years and I remember little. I was looking at buying an (old?) Rotring 60 nib speedball pen set (quite cheap about $30) but I was wondering if I could have some opinions for whether it would be good to try this set since it is cheap or begin with a sturdy fountain pen (low end to start with). I do realise that speed ball and fountain penning are slightly different with slightly different techniques. I was also questioning the paper that should be used with these pens. With my technical drafting pens, they are easily clogged and blocked when using fibrous, weak papers (butterpaper). With these pens will the same thing happen or would that be the result if you didnt clean the nibs and such -
Just saw this new video on noodler's web site about how to use speedball nibs in noodler's pens, as well as some new pens / new colors / non-flex Konrad nibs. Man I do love all the noodler's videos! I'd love to be able to get those new ebonite Konrad colors, I'm trying to get all of them and have been successful so far, but not being able to go to the Boston show may put a wrench in the works. Anywho, thought you all would wanna watch! -Nick
