  1. I’ve been using fountain pens almost exclusively for a little over two years now. Like many fp enthusiasts, my early purchases included the Pilot Kakuno and the Platinum Preppy, both with extra fine nibs (which I tend to prefer). I’ve since acquired higher quality pens with nibs I like just as much as the efs on those two (such as the Pilot 823 <f>, Pilot 912 <PO>, and Platinum 3776 <sf> & <uef>) but which sport screw caps that often feel like a needless chore to deal with; and I’ve found nicer pens whose designs well dispose them toward serving as wonderful, easily deployed work horses (all from western brands: Lamy 2000, Faber-Castell Loom, et al.), but none of which seem to be available with nibs capable of the truly extra fine, delicate lines produced by their Japanese counterparts. So I’m soliciting suggestions for basically any pens other than the Kakuno and Preppy with both a convenient capping mechanism and a Japanese-width extra fine (or extra-extra fine) nib. Expensive name brands or cheap aliexpress offerings, anything in between, hit me with whatever comes to mind. Thanks! (Last thing - I have owned 3 Vanishing Points and 2 Curidas’s, all with extra fine nibs, and all of these either tore soft paper to shreds worse than my Pilot posting nib on its worst day or had that issue + required a ton of tweaking and smoothing to get them to write at all (guess which ones had this problem 😂)).
  2. It helps to explore this yourself, revisiting once in a while if need be, and keep in mind where each of those personal info fields are entered. Don't leave it until the urge to change something specific to come upon you, and only then bother to ask the question! Invest the time surveying upfront, instead of waste it later waiting for an answer from nobody in particular. Most of the fields shown above are self-evident as to what they are. I think the only ones that could do with explanation are: Security and Privacy: There is only one setting under there, and that is a toggle for whether your online status (including ‘last active’ date or time) is visible to others Content View Behavior: That has nothing to do with what others can see about you, but only where you would like to start reading when accessing content Enable status updates: This toggle enables/disables the public feed on your profile page; if you disable it, then nobody (including you) can post publicly visible ‘status updates’ or any other message against your profile, but if you enable it, then anyone — friend, foe, or complete stranger — can post something there whenever, without waiting for you to initiate and then only reply to what you wrote Notification Settings have nothing to do with what others can see about you, and so is out of scope for this article, and I'm not going to delve into those right now. (You can look here, here, and here to wrap your head around how notifications work with respect to followed content.) N.B. There is a possibility that some of the above settings and data fields may not be available to Bronze members and/or Silver members, but I have no way of testing that or scoping it out. — • — Another way of getting to the Edit Profile dialog, and the way to change your profile photo (or ‘avatar’), is here: — • — Freeform, custom member titles that one enters for oneself are long gone, and have not been a thing since FPN came back from a long hiatus and platform upgrade late in 2020.

    Daiso Preppy-wannabe pens colour range

    From the album: Chinese pens

These fountain pens are Daiso's answer to the Platinum Preppy, with the clear, lightly coloured pen bodies and spring-loaded inner caps. Unlike the Chinese-made Platinum Riviere PTR-200, which Daiso also sells, they are not co-branded. These pens started appearing, here in Sydney, late in August 2020. I've only ever seen them in one store in the four months since, even though there are three Daiso stores within walking distance of each other. My first impressions are that these pens are of much better product quality than the PTR-200. The nib width grade is not stated anywhere, either on the pen itself or its retail packaging; the nib on the unit I've used writes like a Fine, I'd say.

    My Pelikan M75 Go!

Finally my long-awaited pen has come in the mail, M75 Go! I bought it in the first place because I was hoping for a Pelikan pen which has a snap cap and a nice grip, and I was pleased with both features. As I was opening the box, I noticed some actual dirt on the pen, even though it was shipping from Germany, not some Arabian desert somewhere. This was our vendor https://www.ebay.com/usr/jc.designkunst?ul_ref=https%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F0%252Fe11401.m1842.l44715%252F7%253Feuid%253D3cce20483084419f91fba57c90cf70fd%2526bu%253D43450942643%2526loc%253Dhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.com%25252Fulk%25252Fusr%25252Fjc.designkunst%2526exe%253D20624%2526ext%253D53566%2526es%253D0%2526nqc%253DQBAAAAAAgAAAAEABABIEAAQAQAAAEAAQkAABgAAAAAAJAAAABAgBIAAAAAAAEAAABIAAAEAAAAAACAAAgAAAABACAAIBAAAAAAAAAAAQAAAAEAAAAAAEIAAAAAABAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAI*%2526nqt%253DQBAAAAAAgAAAAEABABIEAAQAQAAAEAAQkAABgAAAAAAJAAAABAgBIAAAAAAAEAAABIAAAEAAAAAACAAAgAAAABACAAIBAAAAAAAAAAAQAAEIEAAEAAAEIAAAAAATAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAI*%2526ec%253D1%2526sojTags%253Des%253Des%252Cnqc%253Dnqc%252Cnqt%253Dnqt%252Cec%253Dec%252Cexe%253Dexe%252Cext%253Dext%252Cbu%253Dbu%2526srcrot%253De11401.m1842.l44715%2526rvr_id%253D0%2526rvr_ts%253D17dd63651660ac1ee3542fbcfff5158a&ul_noapp=true The pen was okay, and it didnt make me feel all wow or anything. Just a kids school pen. It doesnt glide across the page as one of their Souverän pens or anything. Had I bought a Pilot pen for ten to twenty dollars the pen would have had a very precise line. No, the nib was not precise or defined in writing and it did have some texture. No, it is not a nib that glides so smoothly. The pen itself feels so light like a feather and it doesnt have any heft or balance thereof.

    The Snap Cap

Does anyone know when the snap cap fountain pen was introduced? Were there any in around 1940 or only screw caps? Edit: apart from the parker 51, which was apparently launched in 1941. Were there before it snap caps?

    Pilot Prera Durability

Hi guys, I´m a recent owner of 2 pilot prera, one in a beautiful dark brown and one in clear black. I must say, the nib is wonderful for such a small pen! I really love the pen which as become my EDC. Usually I´m a screw type pen but in the case of the prera I couldn´t resist.... Although I love the clicky sound when it closes, I´m a little concerned the snap cap mechanism will wear out very quickly.... I believe the inner cap secures the cap, but because it´s plastic I believe it will not last many years of daily use This one is for those of you who have a prera for a long time: How well is the mechanism sustaining the daily open/close? Many thansk!!! Pedro
  8. Hello everyone To be clear I am searching for a new pen around ~100€ to replace my Lamy 2000, which finally doesn't suits me. I found it too heavy for daily use in high-school + as I am lefty, I didn't find it comfortable enough. My reference pen was during one year the Lamy Safari (wet F), not the best ink capacity but the best comfort I found among others (parker sonnet, 45, 2000, fpr) and the best facility of use ; it's just reliable - solid - working. I) So what's essential for my pen is : 1 - Snap Cap : This is a must for me in fast note-taking, I just don't really like the screwing-type. 2 - Comfort : Anything close to the triangular section of the Safari is welcome, and I say it now : I don't like textured ones. Otherwise I prefer pens coming with a mat finish, less sweat is better. 3 - Nib Feeling : I wrote one year with a wet Fine nib, and judging my experience from the semi-hooded of the 2k, any Western medium is ok.. I just prefer normal nib shapes → hoodeds are not very practical for my writing-style (between side/over-writer). At 100€ I don't really mind for the gold nib, I think that a reliable firm-smooth nib should do the trick. II) Notes : I prefer to avoid Japanese pens for their nib-size system (I have three pilot's and I find the mediums too thin).. But if you have japaneses snap-caps with good M/B nib, yes ! (I would like to hear about the capless/decimo comfort). III) To sum up : That's what comes to my mind first about choosing my new pen. Keep in mind, "Reliability - Comfort - Solidity" = my main principles. I didn't have the time yet too highlights some pens, but I will update the thread, so don't hesitate with recommendations. PS : The Aurora Ipsilon might be interesting. → Thank you ! Armand.D
  9. Hello all, Since october last year I am hooked in Fps, and as an high school student I want now to change my Lamy Safari that I am using since last october. I have tried also a Parker 45, Sailor highace Neo, Fpr triveni Jr (indian pen). I am searching for a pen with : - metal construction by preference (a little tired by it on the safari), more consistent design. - a snap-cap (much more handy to take notes) - not with "friction" as on the P45, which clips immediately. - Not Japanese, because I always found myself confused to find an equivalent to the Lamy F, for me with my usual noodler's qe3 ink (more wet than dry) the Pilot M is not equal to the lamy F, so western is simpler or I need a Japanese broad. About the filling-system, a c/c is fine, even if I have to refill every 2/3 days, the eyedroppers are less clean to refill imho. The evident choice would be a Lamy pen, because of their utilitarian-minded design, but an all-star is too close to a Safari, What do you have to recommend me ? I am open to Chinese, etc, around 100 you can also tell me what's interesting to think to. (classifieds included). Indeed, I am just searching for an "upgrade" to the safari, a more premium-builted one also thinked for an easy and quick usage.. I am confused. About twsbi, there is the Vac 700, but I heard about cracks.. I heard about a "Nexus pen", kickstarter project, all aluminium made, coming with a bock nib.. I like the platinum 3776. Thank you ! Armand.D
