  1. Saw a pic of the top of an old Skrip Permanent Red, and it says this: Sounds fantastic! Does anyone know to what this is referring, did it work, and does the modern Red Skrip still contain anything like this?!
  2. I found replacement caps for my favorite 4 oz Schaeffer Skrip ink bottles! Unfortunately, they came in a pack of sixty. I now have enough for several lifetimes. If anyone needs caps to replace the rusty metal one on your vintage 4 oz Skrip bottle, just let me know, I want to share.
  3. Hello I come to ask your opinion about the state of two vintage sheaffer skrip ink bottles possibly from the 90's. I bought two jars, one brown and one blue, the brown has the great ink well, my concern is that the brown is no longer that color, currently has a greenish color. The lid of both bottles is not rusty, if I had to describe the smell of the box and bottle, I would say that it is old or old book because of the cardboard, I suppose, when I opened both bottles they smell old like cardboard or the bottle in its exterior .The first print on the top layer of the ink looks normal and clean, with no apparent white moldy cotton or things floating around. The bottom of the blue ink bottle is without sediment or strange things, but the bottom of the brown bottle had something brown as you can see in the photo, but with a slight movement it dissolved. I ask you if in your opinion these inks are still seen to be in good condition? The smell in both is the same, smell of old, the smell does not seem rotten to me, in the past I had two inks from other brands that did smell rotten and I had to discard them. If I have to throw the ink in the trash, can I still disinfect the bottle to reuse it for other inks?It is that the ink well of the bottle looks great hahaha

  5. Hi everyone, I was wondering if I was about to commit what some of you might call a "crime against humanity", do you think it is sacrilegious to remove the label from an old Sheaffer Skrip Bottle that has an inkwell? I intend to use the bottle for storing different black inks and I mostly bought it for utilitarian purposes because it is great design and bottles like that just aren't made anymore. But I also know it's place in history and was wondering if I was about to ruin an object that has in some sense, historical significance even if it is still quite common... Here's what it looks like with the label still intact (the picture is badly framed, sorry): http://i65.tinypic.com/i19x6s.jpg

    Sheaffer: Skrip Blue-Black

http://inks.pencyklopedia.pl/wp-content/uploads/Sheaffer-Skrip-Blue-Black-kleks.png I present to test the ink Sheaffer Skrip Blue-Black. But as you can see the smeared drops, added must also be some other color responsible for specific luster. I bet bright green. Ink admittedly slightly dry in the pen, but this is not a problem. 9. Hello All, A little while ago, I bought a vintage Sheaffer's Skrip bottle of #82 washable purple ink. I purchased it more for the bottle's built-in inkwell, and thought the remaining ink would be a nice bonus. After I tried it I realized that, although nice, it just wasn't a shade of purple that I liked. But, that might be your gain! Details on the ink characteristics are below. But first, the rules: - TWO lucky folks will win ink. I'll be giving each person 15ml of washable purple ink (5 vials with 3ml each) - Open to Continental US only, free first-class shipping. - Enter by simply posting a reply from now until the night of Sunday, March 12, 2017, 8pm Eastern Standard Time. I'll post again when the deadline is passed. - After the deadline, I'll choose two winners via random.org, announce them here and PM them. - If 7 days passes with no reply from a winner, I'll repeat the drawing. I must say that the ink is surprsingly well-behaved (using my medium nib on Apica notepaper). When on the paper wet, it is a dark purple, but dries to what I would say is more of a medium lilac/grey. Some shading, not heavily saturated. It does have strong-ish chemical odor. Here is a snapshot of it. Good luck, all! Rich
  10. Well ink loving friends, here is a review of some vintage Sheaffer's Skrip Permanent Blue Black with RC-35! There are some older reviews on our site, but not many. Let me share the story of my acquisition. Attending a preview for a living auction of someone in our area moving to an assisted living in Florida, I discovered a secretary's desk. It had been repainted a muted green, though I fail to understand the mentality that wishes to cover beautiful old, dark wood. The auctioneers weren't going to bother offering the contents separately, so near the end of the long day it came for sale. The desk itself was neat, but the contents were even better: some old pens, dip pens and nibs, other knick-knacks and bric-a-brac, and a bottle of Sheaffer Skrip ink. From a bit of research on the site this bottle comes from the era 1955-67. It was made in Ft. Madison while the Snorkel pen was on the market. It's somewhat easy here to find old bottles, less so with liquid ink in them. This ink was perfectly clear, still had a good inky aroma. In working on a project with my inks, I filled an Edison Beaumont pneumatic filler with this one. Here are the results. The images seem to have captured the ink as darker than in fact. This is not the darkest of the modern blue-black inks, it is lighter than most, but not light itself, if that makes sense. BB4B, OS Manganese, Sailor Shoushikan Sei-ran, and others are all darker overall than this ink. But these other inks don't have quite the same kind of shading as this one which ranges from fairly light to quite dark. Another review shows this ink as being much darker. But I can't elaborate on the provenance of this particular bottle other than what I have. I haven't experienced any problems with this ink. It is actually quite water resistant, so while it is said you can recover your writing under UV light if the ink is washed away, at least on the modern inkjet paper it was quite permanent. A nice trip down memory lane. Pen: Edison Beaumont pneumatic (M-steel) Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory. Camera: iPhone 7

    Sheaffer Skrip Red Cartridge

I know this ink has been reviewed several times already but I was so impressed with it I couldn't resist adding one. Skrip Red is a lovely dark red that shades nicely on the 24 lb. copy paper of the test, less shading, more even, darker line on the 20 lb. at work, shades more on better paper. I would say the color is like a cranberry red, it's definitely not a bright red, like Diamine Ruby. I was initially reminded of Levenger Claret but once I actually compared them, Claret is much darker. It looks somewhat similar to the scan of Cult Pens' Deep Dark Red in cybaea's review. Like the Skrip Orange I reviewed, on good (BnR) paper the Red has a slightly 'flat' look to it when it dries but the beauty of the color more than makes up for that. This is less a problem on copy paper, where it really looks good. On the 20 and 24 lb. copy, show-through is minimal, though there is some slight dotting bleed but whatever they use in the petty cash slip pads at work, the bleed-through was pretty bad. There is some water resistance, judging from the smear and drops test - plenty of residual line remains. Flow is good and the pen writes smoothly. No spread or feathering to speak of on the test paper. I really like this ink. While not suitable for serious business use, it's dark enough that casual inner-office use shouldn't be a problem and may even elicit admiring comments. Definitely suitable for personal use (although love letters possibly restricted to vampires). I can easily see it as a daily or, at least, frequent carry. The color in the full scan is pretty accurate, if just a teensy tiny bit light, while the partial further down is a little too dark. full scan of review, laser copy, color is a little light close up of shading on BnR spiral This partial scan is darker than the review page but closer to what it looked like on the 20 lb. at work. And the test pen - I'm impressed by how well it writes, it's smoother than my Waterman JIFs. One thing to note: the cartridge seemed pretty tight going in and, sure enough, when I unscrewed the section the cart stayed in the barrel; there was no problem (no visible leakage) after screwing it back in but may take something like a crochet needle to remove it or I can probably use a syridge to refill it in place.

Classic Penmaker Inks: Wet Or Dry?

Having finally stuck my toe in the water of pen restoration, I need to pick a Test Ink. Here are the ones I have available right now, and I'd like to know which run wet, and which run dry. Skrip (Slovenia) Blue Skrip (Slovenia) Blue-Black Parker Quink Blue-Black Parker Quink Black Waterman Florida Blue (which, I freely admit, I'm kinda hoarding) Waterman Blue-Black (ditto) Waterman South Seas Blue (yup, the same) Waterman Black I have some Pelikan inks but I already know they're dry. Thanks for any insight!

    Sheaffer: Skrip Black

http://inks.pencyklopedia.pl/wp-content/uploads/Sheaffer-Skrip-Black-nazwa.png I present test ink Sheaffer Skrip Black with an interesting shade of black, which can be likened to anthracite. The ink has very good drying time. For poor quality paper able to penetrate to the other side. Shading noticeable, but very weakly. But do not expect the black. For fans Sheaffer. 17. I have drive across my city trying to find a sheaffer bottle that doesnt have this, and i have not be succesfull, after open more than 7 bottles on different stores i have found the same floaty things in the bottle... so maybe this is normal.. is it? Since is the first time i use bottled ink.. i have to ask about it. another question, do Cartridges could have mold?? because it seems that is the only option i have if i want to use Sheaffer ink. (I dont enjoy Lamy ink the other brand i can get in here)
  18. Hi everyone, posting my first ink review, I didn't mean to post it at all, made it for my personal reference but realized it could help someone decide (as numerous reviews have helped me), so here it is. I am sure there is room for improvement so feel free to point out what to adjust in the next one. I've got close to 40 inks so I will be posting more as I go through them again. These of course are only my personal findings and may not be as accurate as someone's who's been reviewing ink for a long time. I've only gotten into inks recently even though I've been using fountain pens for years. This review is on Radece Papir Italia, 80g. The best office paper I've found so far in this part of the world. Excellent for fountain pen inks, very resistant and overall performs very, very well. I've tried quite a number of them by now. I want to stay away from reviewing on Clairfontain or Rhodia simply because I don't use them daily and the ink really won't show its faults as much. Enjoy! - Daniel

My Blacks - You Know I Love Them!

I have often commented about black inks in general but though it was time for a little comparison of the ones I actually own. Also, I've started using the Pelikan 4001 again and still quite enjoy it, I'm ashamed to say. However, the recent post on here about Aurora v Pelikan made me try the Aurora one out and I'm impressed. Along with the Aurora Blue, their Black is great in my Moleskines - I use F or EF/XF nibs generally - and they both make a nice change from my customary use of 'The Master' - Pelikan 4001 Blue Black. So here are my inks. All written on my usual Rhodia 80gsm pad using Lamy Safari pens, dipped, amd M nibs. The following soak tests are on the usual pads of (probably) 80 or 90gsm paper but the quality isn't very good. The 'wet' ones were soaked for 30 minutes or so and then given a final rinse before drying. I'm impressed with the Aurora and always knew that the Pelikan was going to be OK. Skrip has a good outcome too and the Namiki is pretty well-known for this quality. Lastly no real surprises from the Waterman and Parker. I shall await any comments with interest!
