  1. Rohrer & Klingner sketchINK Carmen I was quite a bit excited when I started the review. The colour seemed promising however, in the end the promising colour was due to a not so thoroughly cleaned feed. The colour is quite close to Super5 Delhi which I reviewed prior. I was excited when I saw the reddish blob in the chroma but in the end was disappointed by the colour. It’s another pure orange. Writing samples: As you can see the heading and the F nib is darker but soon after the colour reverted to what it should be. A comparison page between Super5 Delhi and sketchINK Carmen It's really ugly on copy paper. photo: Comparison: Water test: (Left side was under water) And finally a homage at the opera Carmen and the fatal flower that seals the tragic destructive relationship: · Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Stub , Kaweco Sport (EF/F/M/B,1.9), Kanwrite with an Ahab nib · What I liked: The name, reddish orange hint. · What I did not like: I prefer my oranges on the red side. · What some might not like: Dryish ink, nanopigment ink, · Shading: No. · Ghosting: With very wet pens and have handed writing. .. · Bleed through: Same as above. · Flow Rate: Medium · Lubrication: Dry · Nib Dry-out: Not noticed. · Start-up: No. · Saturation: No. · Shading Potential: Dismal. · Sheen: No. · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: No. · Nib Creep / “Crud”: No. · Staining (pen): No. · Clogging: No. · Cleaning: It's a nano pigment ink. They tend to stick to everything, so you might need to use a penflush to be sure. · Water resistance: Excellent. · Availability: 50 ml Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier
  2. Rohrer and Klingner sketchINK® Klara Another one of the water/lightproof sketchink series. Very difficult to scan and photograph. A searing green/blue, that could be hard on the eye 🙄 I recommend using sunglasses to read this review 🕶️ I would use this ink mostly for editing and annotating. Comparaison Chroma I amused myself to a different type of the review. Letters of Klara to Baystate Blue her role model Life Classic Tomoe River Tomoe River 68 gr Midori A sketch (don't forget your sunglasses) Comparison with Baystate Blue on TR 68gr (stub) And finally a photo: Dry time is moderate.... Personally I think this ink is best with fine/ ef nibs... • Pen used: Noodler’s Ahab / Kanwrite Ultraflex, Pilot Varsity • Shading: Difficult to see • Ghosting: None • Bleed through: None. • Flow Rate: Wet • Lubrication: Nice...it took off the edge off the TWSBI stub.... • Nib Dry-out: Needs a well-sealed pen. • Start-up: If not used it can dry out, in pens with high evaporation. • Saturation: Not really • Shading: Debatable... • Sheen: No • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None. • Nib Creep / “Crud”: None • Staining (pen): It doesn’t stain. But you need a pen cleaner, in my experience. • Clogging: Nope • Water resistance: Waterproof • Availability: Only in bottle 50 ml bottles. Enjoy...
  3. Rohrer and Klingner sketchINK® Jule These pigmented inks are purported to be both lightfast and waterproof and are designed for sketching. Jule is la lighter version of Super5 Australia. Truly delightful both on Midori and TR 68, the papers I use most often, but equally great on all types of paper. Tomoe River 6 8gr Midori Dry time in my experience is on the longer side. However, it can be mitigated with finer nibs, drier pens or more absorbent paper. I prefer this series with modern flex, or wide nibs where I get more character out of these inks. However, it is imperative to use pens with a good seal, otherwise you need dip your nib under water to keep it running again. • Pen used: Noodler’s Ahab, Lamy Safari broad • Shading: Yes • Ghosting: None • Bleed through: None. • Flow Rate: Good. Austalia is wetter. • Lubrication: Nice • Nib Dry-out: Depending the pen. Needs well sealed pens. • Start-up: If not used it can dry out, in pens with high evaporation. • Saturation: Dusky • Shading Potential: With broad and flex. • Sheen: No • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None. • Nib Creep / “Crud”: None • Staining (pen): I use a pen cleaning solution for the feeds. • Clogging: Nope • Water resistance: Waterproof • Availability: Only in bottle 50 ml bottles.
  4. R & K sketchINK Marlene…. In my exploration of waterproof inks, I was long intrigued by the beauty of Marlene. It’s one of those rich full-bodied blues with lovely, lovely shading with Ahab. It’s an that ink that makes me happy. As I wrote I realized I was whistling this tune. A lovely nostalgic song, from one of the darkest hours in human history. Yet also a song that saved two lives. I often wonder if the marketing guys at R&K gave this name consciously, after Marlene Dietrich and her seminal movie the Blue Angel or if it’s all just subconscious… Here are my impressions…. · Pens used: Ahab, Jinhao 450 · Shading: Beautiful with Ahab · Ghosting: Depending nib/ flow combination · Bleed through: As above. · Flow Rate: Really nice… · Lubrication: Good · Nib Dry-out: No. · Start-up: Depends on the pen. · Saturation: A lovely deep sky blue… · Shading Potential: Oh yes…. · Sheen: Some on TR · Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None · Nib Creep / “Crud”: Yes on some pens… · Staining (pen): Nope. · Clogging: Nope. But I guess it would help to use a pen wash. · Water resistance: Oh yes. · Availability: Only in bottle. Chromatography Swabs Written text on Rhodia Whimsical text on Midori - with Ahab
