    Sevilla - Papelería Ferrer

I found a pen shop in Seville. Haven’t been able to look for pen shops this trip, usually a vacation trip activity. But this trip is different. Looking for an apartment in Spain, and too many family members going in different directions. To “help”. I’m more like a scurrying mouse than a guy herding cats, but both concepts apply. Anyway, i got lost and found what looks to be a great store, but it was closed on Sunday So I tried to make it by 8:30 PM today, Monday. But a certain map app took me in the wrong direction. But I vowed to find the place again, and arrived to find it closed at 9:30 pm. So I was peering throught the heavily shuttered window, and saw Platinum, Sailor, Pels, and many more. Then I spied a glimpse of a guy way back behind a lot of stuff way in the back. So out came that cursed product of the Apple tree, but changed to a source of hope from its prior tangled ball of wool-ness. He answered the phone and explained he was CLOSED, but I told him to look out the door. And he opened up for me! I had a good time seeing some fabulous stuff, then his wife called him to get home so I bought a converter for the cheap gp nib Inoxcrom I got 5 cities ago in a used goods shop in Barcelona, and will try to be on time tomorrow. i just learned more about Ferrer Papelería from A traveller from Bath, writing on https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g187443-d16814412-Reviews-Papeleria_Ferrer-Seville_Province_of_Seville_Andalucia.html. “Four generations have traded from this establishment, the concept of which dates as far back as 1856. This shop, in the same location for almost 200 years, has been selling quills, fountain pens, all kinds of papers, sealing wax (the real stuff – not like the candle wax imitation only available in Britain) note books, pencils, school materials and, for the collector, decorative implements 1870 style hydrometers sand clocks, terrestrial globes and quill sets. These and many more, a real treasure trove for the antiquarian, historian and calligrapher …” I showed him my two Nemosyne stubs, and gave him the web address for this place, I have vowed to not buy pens of great import and cost, but my Birthdat was yesterday, and Father’s day is 5 days away. We’ll see tomorrow…

    Crete Pen Shops

Hello I am about to travel to Crete, staying near Rethymnon. I was wondering if there were any pen shops worth visiting on Crete, particularly in Heraklion, Chania or Retymnon? Does anyone have any recommendations?
  3. Hello all! I will be visiting LA at the start of September, and was wondering if anyone can recommend any brick and mortar fountain pen shops I should visit while I'm in the area? Or perhaps some vintage shops which may have some vintage fountain pens? Your suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

  7. Hey, folks from Maine and the surrounding area! I am posting about a "new" shop that has opened recently in Portland, Maine's Old Port that is very fountain pen friendly, and getting better all the time. The shop is Sherman's Books & Stationary. It's their fifth shop in Maine's coastal region (local chain), and of the five this one has the strongest focus on the stationary side of the business. So far as pens are concerned their current stock is extremely limited. They have some Pilot Varsities in various colors, some Sheaffer calligraphy pen sets and they have a J. Herbin calligraphy dip-pen set, but beyond that it's ballpoints and Le Pen. However, they're a new store and they genuinely try to order what the customers want, so if they get requests to start carrying pens and inks then Maine could very quickly see the birth of its first such shop! Contact info will be listed at the end so that anyone interested can let the powers that be know you would be interested in shopping for these things at this place at some point in time. So far as non-pens are concerned, this place is an ever-expandning treasure trove of journals and stationary sets! Every time I've been in there's been more to choose from, and it's all good quality! Of course there's the rack of Moleskines, but they also carry some of the smaller Clairefontaine and Rhodia notebooks. They have Paper Blanks. But they also have a variety of leather bound journals, datebooks and address books. They have some Smudge Ink stationary sets that are a constant temptation to me. These are actually printed in Maine, as I understand it. They also carry cards and postcards, many of which were printed in Maine or Mass. They are the only shop in town that I have seen to carry the Clairefontaine Triomphe tablets. They also have a brand of stationary that looks a bit similar to the Crane & Co called CR Gibson. I hadn't seen that brand before, but I like their stuff. It's not as thick as Crane but it's a laid paper, so there are sort of guidelines set into the grain itself. I really liked it and found it did very well with my fountain pens. Anyway, I've been in there bugging them to get some Metropolitans or some Lamy stuff at the very least just to give some folks in this area options and a good local source to get started. But I'm just one voice. I know there's a few others, but the more the merrier. So if you're in the area and would like to see a shop starting to carry fountain pens and inks (especially inks! What I wouldn't give to not have to drive to Boston or order online for my inks!) Email at Portland@Shermans.com http: //facebook.com/shermansbooks or you can send your hand-written-in-founatin-pen letters to: Sherman's Books & Stationary 49 Exchange Street Portland, ME 04101
  8. Hi, I have a friend going to China in a month. She'll be there for about a month I think. Mostly in Yunnan I think. Pretty sure she'll be visiting Shanghai as well, perhaps as a base for exploring the countryside. I'm wondering if there are pen shops in Shanghai that I could recommend for her to visit and pick up a Chinese pen for me. I know I can get some of them here, as well as just order online, but I think it would be neat if I had one that was bought in China. Maybe they'll have a special one with a Red Star on it, commemorating some great event in the history of the Party. Well if I was a Chinese pen maker, you know I'd play to that market Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!
