    Sheaffer Snorkel Repair Help

So I have some misc Sheaffer Snorkel parts on their way to me and I have a few questions about repairing snorkels. I have fully restored a snorkel, so I know how to safely take them apart and put them back together, but there are a few things I'm not sure about that I'd like to get sorted out before going to the pen show this weekend so I know what parts to get. The first is about the snorkel tubes. The pen I have has a triumph nib and tube but I'm getting a couple of open nibs and sections that won't have corresponding tubes. There is another triumph (angle cut) tube in with the parts that are coming, but I don't have a flat ended tube. I'm wondering if the angle cut tubes can work in open nibs. I know it might look a little funny as it might not be flush, but I'm wondering if there are any significant other differences that might prevent it from working correctly. If I do need a flat tube, is there a good source for them in the UK? The second is whether it's possible to fix a loose clip on a metal snorkel white dot cap. Thanks for any pointers.
  2. I am basically looking for a broken normal and TM Sheaffer snorkel barrel but it seems all I ever find are ones in new condition and cost nearly as much as buying the whole pen.
  3. I was in Singapore on Feb 10 - visiting one of the BHG (Be Here for Great Things) Department Stores, when I discovered the large Pen Section of the store. I saw two Sheaffer fountain pens which appeared to be in the Sheaffer Prelude Signature style - one was a beautiful red lacquer and the other a beautiful blue lacquer. Both had gold nibs - inscribed in the nib is 585 M 14K. I had not heard of Preludes with gold nibs before - including the Signature line. The pens were selling for 250 Singapore dollars (around 200 dollars American). Anyone know anything about a new line of Sheaffer Prelude Signature pens with 14K gold nibs?-
  4. Hi all, I have a Sheaffer Snorkel that was lovely and my favourite writer. Unfortunately, it started to leak a little, then a lot. I tried to empty out the ink, figuring that then I could send it somewhere for repairs, or just take the next step. What I'm wondering now is whether or not it is possible for me to safely take apart the pen without owning any specialty tools to do so. I haven't fiddled with it before, so I'm a bit nervous. I'm wondering if it's a matter of the sac springing a leak or something. (It started out as a leak through the slit, then became a major leak through slit, and finally seemed to be leaking out of the bottom, as well.) Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Sheaffer Tuckaway, Need Help With Repairs

I just got a Sheaffer Tuckaway in the mail today and I need some help with repairs. I'm wanting to do the repairs my self but I need help with what to do. The filling system doesn't work, I can't budge the nib and I don't want to break it, and the base of the cap has a gap. Any advice as to how to fix these problems would be appreciated, thank you! http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww191/ParkerDeanPeterson/temporary-16.jpg http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww191/ParkerDeanPeterson/temporary-17.jpg

Greetings to all of FPN members, and thanks for viewing my post!!!

Sheaffer Valiant Snokel In Need Of Repair

The plastic threading on my Valiant where the nib screws on is stripped, which I supposed is expected of a pen of this age. Does anyone know where I could find a better conditiond part for this pen? http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww191/ParkerDeanPeterson/WP_20140122_0031.jpg

    Identify Sheaffer Pen

I'm pretty new to this fountain pen business, but managed to get hold of a sheaffer nib/front section (i.e, nib, filler, grip) and thought I'd try and figure out what model it is. it's burgundy, with gold trim just above the nib, and above the grip. the grip is burgundy plastic. the nib is gold, and in a 'classic' style (i.e., not the sheaffer distinctive targa/imperial kind). engraved on the nib it has 'SHEAFFER', then 'F - 4' below, and finally 'M' at the bottom. any suggestions or insights would be appreciated. many thanks
  9. I posted this in the First stop section, but it has yet to be answered. If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it. Hello. I've just gotten my Sheaffer Valor and have been using it for a few days at school. I haven't been doing anything that may have caused it like running around or dropping it, but there seems to be a faint mark on different parts of the acrylic pen. I suspect these may be capping/posting marks, as they are in the right place and are in ring shapes. There is one directly below the nib, one on the upper body and one at the very tip. If a fellow owner of an acrylic pen could assist in identifying these marks and any potential tips on maintenance and perhaps a solution to this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Sheaffer Targa Converter

Hello. I've just recently acquired a Sheaffer Targa from my grandmother, who had passed away. It came with an empty ink cartridge that seemed quite loose. My question is, would a modern Sheaffer piston converter work in place of the old ink cartridge ?
  11. Edit: added pictures Hello. I've just gotten my Sheaffer Valor and have been using it for a few days at school. 12. First quarter of community college I purchased this pen to transcribe music compositions. Never got the hang of it and the pen languished in a drawer for a few decades, then moved to a drawer in my daughter's room, only to emerge recently in a bedroom bust of missing pens. Inked it up and enjoying getting back to my roots. Any idea which Sheaffer model it is? Thanks! Carol
  13. So I've had this pen for at least a decade, it has a 5 digit number on the pen nib-screw part. It has a yellow dot, and I don't know why I can't find anything as to why it's yellow and not white. I thought discolouring, but it would appear not. And on the pen lid it doesn't say sheaffer like the others near the middle, it says sheaffer on one side and U.S.A ont he otherside of the clip. It looks like a 444 or 440 but has just a few differences that do not match with them models. Any help would be appreciated, and i've added some pics to try and help. Also the pics show the dot to be white, but that's just the flash. I will try and add a better pic. One extra thing I should add, the pen is not in it's case)the case holding it is my Tutankhamen card case).

    Sheaffer Targa Nib

Hello. So I've been using my newly acquired (old) Sheaffer Targa. After a few lines, the ink ran out. There seemed to be some ink from the feed, but it looks like it cannot keep up with the nib. Eventually, the lines thin out into nothingness. Initially, I thought the nib was bent, but it seems that this is normal. I suspect the feed to the nib could be slightly blocked, so I am now leaving it in some water with a small amount of soap. By the way, there is no black ink mark in the first photograph, only a reflection.

    Sheaffer Imperial 440: Troubles

I absolutely love my Sheaffer No-nonsense (priced around 900 INR or 14.5US$). In fact I liked the fine nib and plain simplicity of it so much that I went forward and picked up a sheaffer Imperial 440 at a price of 26 US$ (1600 INR), Usually priced at 2400 INR (39 US$) in India, this was definitely a bargain. Now the problems: 1. I dip-tested it with Waterman havana brown and pelikan 4001 royal blue. (of course, flushed the nib with water before switching inks). and the nib feels like a safety pin. 2. Flushed it thoroughly with lukewarm water loads of times and even had soaked it previously for 3-4 hours. No improvements. 3. I searched for tutorials, and saw one where one can unscrew the feed section. Mine was too tight, so I tried with hot water at 60-70 Celsius (140-158 F). It just wont unscrew. (Don't own a hair-drier and that is NOT an option) Now the thing is, sending it back is NOT an option as I'll get back my money, but they won't replace the pen. Also, I'm staying at Pune, India and I don't believe we have ANY sheaffer outlet/repair shop in our country(forget about region). So I am relying on you guys to help me out. And my question is a simple one for all sheaffer gurus out here. "Please help me improve this Sheaffer" At this moment, my 20 INR (0.32 us$) Kale pen writes better. Also, it's the vaccumetric converter filled, blue one, that you can see on any website.
  16. Hello everyone! First post here I've been collecting newer pens and have recently become interested in vintage pens for my collection. I found this Sheaffer at a thrift store for a dollar, but it needs a new sac and I can't ID it to get the proper size. Any ideas? http://i.imgur.com/x2DHdN7.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/4HT0KkD.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/neUJwE5.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/1vpgcDV.jpg
  17. Hello FPN! I Found this pen on a train (Britfag) on the way back from college, and when i found it i knew the brand (Sheaffer), but i cant find anything about the actual model of the pen any were. It is a fountain pen, but one that you need an ink pot with. I am very intrigued for some of the pens go for thousands were some only 10-20 pounds. Any suggestions on what to do, or what it may be worth? Pictures related.
  18. Howdy, I'm currently waiting for bidding to close on this pen: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTA2NFgxNjAw/z/pVEAAOxydlFSvZoI/$_57.JPG REALLY bad image, but it the best overall shot on the auction. So the guy has it listed as an Imperial 330 - Afaik, the shape could possibly be, but I wasn't aware they came in Touchdown and I can't find anything to suggest they did with a google search. The 14k nib also gave me pause, but that could just potentially be because he did a nib swap. Is this just an Imperial IV that's been incorrectly identified? Also, the colour is just really washed out in that pic, it is actually golden coloured. Also, this will be my last "help me figure out this pen" because, god help me, I'll have a sheaffer imperial by the end of this week if it kills me
  19. Howdy, I've just stumbled on this pen: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/Mjc0WDUwMA==/z/nD4AAOxyVLNSvjPV/$_12.JPG So I have a few quick questions about it: 1) Would it be worth the $54 aud I can grab it for? (I'm going to guess yes, but figured it's a safe question to ask) 2) Do these generally come with a built in converter? 3) If not, is there a converter that will fit and not cost an arm and a leg? (It's a compact pen, so that's why I'm asking in particular) 4) Why isn't the moon actually made up of cheese? That'd be so much better... Anyway, thanks in advance, guys. Trying my darnedest to add an imperial-esque pen to my starting collection (That damn sexy inlaid nib, man...)
  20. No joke, this pen was found in a box containing my great grandmother's bell collection for at least 30 years, and reportedly longer according to my parents. The lever would not move, so we joked that it might be full and doodled on a paper. None of us could believe it when it wrote! Faint at first, then stronger, blue ink! None of us know anything about fountain pens. What do we have here, and should we be able to re-fill it? I spent time in Ft. Madison growing up, and I remember seeing the Sheaffer factory now and then- so this is a fun find! Hopefully I got the photo attached.

    I Need A Replacement Nib

I have a Sheaffer 100 fountain pen, it has a 2 tone nib and the point (tip) has been destroyed. I would like to know: a. where to get a replacement nib for this pen b. how to replace the nib if i have to replace the nib on its own
  22. Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions on a Vacuum-Fil that I'm working on. gmberg's post here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/200999-early-thick-rods-from-sheaffer/ has been very helpful, but my situation is a little different; in his post, the packing unit came out of the pen - in mine, it is still inside. So, here are my questions: 1) Would the best method for restoration be to drill out the packing unit, as I have in the Sheaffer Vac-fils that I have restored, or is there some other method I should try? 2) As this is one of the thick-rod pens, should I search for different o-rings to use in the packing unit, or will the o-ring be flexible enough for the larger rod? I am using the ones offered by David Nishimura. I am sure there are other questions I should ask - I'll add them as I go. Here are some pictures to (hopefully) add some clarity: The pen, disassembled. Closeup of the packing unit

    Hello From California

Hello all, I've always been particular about which pen to use. I had no idea there was another world of this mind set. I'm packing my house to move and buried in the bottom of my safe were a couple of boxes. My ex-husband had given me a couple of pens many moons ago. I never used them for a number of reasons... After some internet investigations I've found that they need to go to a good home with someone to love them. I'm reaching out to those who know and care as to what to do with them... Thank you !
  24. Right for the holiday is a set which we made out of the Sheaffer 300 Fountain pen and the Rollerball pen. We chose the red color for holiday and these pens are last of the lot ( Sheaffer is no more producing them). So to make it better we made a set out of them and matches perfectly to the color of holiday and jovial spirits! The pens are sturdy with nice heft and weight. It can be a great everyday pen and is a great value for money! Fountain pen comes with converter and can be a cartridge or converter filled. Rollerball comes with black ink. Sheaffer 300 Fountain pen( Medium or Fine) and Rollerball set. Comes with an extra holiday gift box if you are planning to give one of them as gift :-) ( In the spirit of Christmas sometimes you have to take care of yourself :-) $75 ( retail: $150) To Buy: http://www.penboutique.com/p-11446-sheaffer-300-red-fountain-pen-rollerball-pen-gift-set.aspx Need more details: http://blog.penboutique.com/2013/12/sheaffer-300-fountain-pen-and_9.html http://www.penboutique.com/images/product/large/11446_4_.jpg http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cRltF3yCtIM/UqXxNJidsAI/AAAAAAAAA6Y/RJRT7LYrVtE/s1600/SheafferRefills.JPG
  25. Hey guys, I'm interested in Sheaffer pens and I was looking at the inlaid pens. Particularly the flagship Legacy Heritage and Valor. I noticed that most online stores price the Legacy Heritage much lower than the Valor. I'm curious as to why the Valor is not priced lower. That is the price of the Valor is fixed at $295. I can't find a lower priced Valor, but the Legacy Heritage can be found for $248. What maked the Valor so expensive compared to the flagship which can be gotten for a much lower price, though it official price is around $315-340. Thank you
