Calling All Lefties! Not Just Fountain Pens

I am not a lefty but have a friend who is, and is intrigued, I'm not sure if by fountain pens or just worried about my sanity with (only) 25 inks and pens. I have read and watched videos about lefties and writing, pushing vs pulling, my sincere commiserations, I didn't know it could be such an ordeal. I have some specific questions, in particular for lefty overwriters: What is your favorite pen (fountain or other)? Why? I've read about the advantages of quicker drying inks; do you prefer rollerballs? Gel pens? Are there more comfortable pens for lefty overwriters? What aspects to look for? Cushioned sections? More expensive pens seem to be fountain pen variants: do these make sense ergonomically for lefties? For instance a Pelikan Souverain or Parker Sonnet rollerball. Any lefties using Sheaffer Triumhps or Pilots with WA nibs ("upturned"or "Waverly type" nibs)? Do these work for you? Strictly stick to quickly drying paper? No Clairefontaine for you? Is it worth the hassle? Just get a cheap gel pen and forget about it? Any other aspects I should look into? I am doing this as if it were an analysis of consumer experiences, following specific goals (design, comfort, practicality, statement pen). Budget is $100 USD. Thanks! -
Sanford Redington Rolling Ball Query

Does anyone have any experience of the Sanford Redington Refillable Rolling Ball? It had a traditional torpedo shape and came in various finishes. I'm guessing it would have dated from the 80s or 90s. I'm familiar with Sanford from the ink of that name, which I presume was an early product of the same company. Sanford Corporation seems to have acquired many great brands before itself being swallowed up by what is now Newell (of Rubbermaid fame). But try as I might I can't seem to find any information about Redington pens - or indeed any other "modern" Sanford pen. -
Hello Sheaffer forum. I've been sold a new-in-box legacy heritage fountain pen that has the nasty habit covering my hands with ink every so often. No cracks or anything like that, the pen appears to be in good condition as per the ebay description. What I discovered was that, right at the bottom of the barrel, there is a spring. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but this spring is only supposed to be on the rollerball variant of this model, right? I mean, I did feel some resistance with first screwing the pen back together after inserting the included converter, but just thought that's how it was with this pen as I've never owned this model before. Have I been sold a mismatched pen? Fountain pen section and cap with a rollerball body? What seems to happen is that the spring appears to catch onto the converter piston's turning knob and turns it when the barrel is unscrewed. Due to a lack of an ink window, I do have to unscrew the barrel every so often to check the ink level in the converter. What was happening was I was doing this after writing to see whether or not it needed a topup, putting the pen away, and then getting that nasty surprise the next time I uncapped the pen. I'd rather not have my hands covered in ink anymore. Surely this is not supposed to be happening with this model, right? Can anyone else with a Legacy Heritage please confirm whether or not this is normal or abnormal? Thank you.

For a moment there, orange was my color of choice. I think I was coming off a sepia phase, but don't rightly recall. I got myself some Diamine Autumn Oak and took a flyer on J. Herbin Orange Indian. J. Herbin Orange Indien The Autumn Oak was a great success but I could never get the J. Herbin to work for me. None of the pens I tried would make a go of it. It was my first out-and-out ink failure. So when I unboxed the PenBBS 350, I did two things. First, I swapped out the fountain pen nib for the rollerball. Then I filled the pen with Orange Indien. I was being a little perverse. Like many, I write with a fountain pen unless I can't help it. You know the type. (You may be one yourself.) But I was impressed by the moxie PenBBS was showing by including a rollerball with the pen. They were thinking outside the box. To reward the daring, I gave the pen the hardest ink I have. To my surprise, it worked. Truth be told, I think the J. Herbin ink has darkened over time. Looking at some old notebooks, it looks a bit brighter. Conceptually, the PenBBS 350 combo hits it out of the park. I love the idea of including a rollerball in the mix. It fits the style of the pen and it writes very well. The line is satisfyingly bold and the rollerball is smooth, agile and consistent. Ergonomically, however, the rollerball isn't a complete success. The rollerball tip is much shorter than the the fountain pen nib - making the pen just that little bit smaller in the hand. The balance between the girth, length and writing experience is slightly awkward. After writing with the rollerball for a bit, I swapped in the fountain pen nib and felt much better. In its fountain pen configuration, the PenBBS 350 rocks: The size is perfect. The diameter is fat enough to be substantial and the unposted length is just right for my hand. The pen posts well enough but that's not how I use it.The weight is spot on. Weighty enough to feel intentional while remaining nimble. Long writing sessions are no problem with this pen.The texture of the pen is light but real: a matte finish with just little grip. Nice.The threads are fine and not bothersome. They work as a midpoint reference for keeping the pen oriented in the hand by touch.The cap comes off in under 1 1/4 turns making this a fast pen to cap and uncap.The cap facets keep the pen from rolling about when not in use and, of course, mean the cap is less likely to wind up on the floor when using the pen.The cap uses plastic interior threads so you don't have the potentially annoying metal-on-metal feeling when capping/uncapping the pen. The action is nicely smooth and precise.There's no clip but that's not a bother for me. I don't need one.The nib is the same PenBBS F No. 6 that comes with their other pens. It's a great nib and performed up to expectations out of the box. Given the aluminum construction and minimalist, industrial design, I put the PenBBS 350 in the workhorse camp. It's durable and functional and could easily serve as a beater pen for everyday use. It works as a full-sized pocket pen. Length capped: 130mmUncapped Rollerball: 117mmUncapped Fountain Pen: 122mmWeight capped (inked): 23.1gWeight uncapped (inked): 15.7g I like the style of the pen. It feels modern. I'm becoming a bigger fan of the PenBBS brand. It could easily be the best Chinese pen brand today. At under US$15 on Taobao, it's a heck of a value. Would I recommend this as a first fountain pen? Yes. If someone is going to catch the bug, this is as good a vector as any.Could this be someone's only fountain pen? Well, it could. If there are folks out there who can eat just one.Would this make a cool gift for a fountain pen friend? I think so. It fits the ideal of something different that lots of people might not pick for themselves.More pictures and comments here.

Hello everyone. I have a hypothetical question. I have the chance to buy a Pelikan R200 rollerball in a somewhat rare color scheme. Is it at all possible to have that barrel taken and turned into a proper Pelikan M250 fountain pen? I've seen custom bindes placed on M800's but wasn't sure if the barrel could be cut down and fitted to an M250. I suspect it's not possible or, even if it were, too difficult/expensive to contemplate but thought I'd ask to ease my troubled mind and put the matter to rest. Thanks for indulging my mad scientist moment.

Hi all, This rollerball was my dad's and he used to write with it quite a bit. There's no branding in it. I don't know how old it is, but my dad passed away 6 years ago and there's still a hauser bill 707 sf in it. I'd venture to guess it's mid-to-late 90s. He wasn't much of a pen guy, but he enjoyed writing with this one. I don't know much about rollerball pens. It looked like a Waterman to me, but I can't find it. Any help would really be appreciated! My mom thinks she recalls it being a Parker, but isn't sure.

Any Experience With Montblanc Heritage Rollerball?

Hi guys! Im looking forwards to adding easy-to-use and simple-looking non-fountain pen to my daily use. (Jotting, sometimes on not-so-good paper). Ive narrowed down to the list below- 1. Lamy 2000 (with g2 refill) 2. Montblanc Heritage 1912 (black or stainless steel) 3. Montblanc ultra black classique ballpoint I love how montblanc ultra black looks, but am not sure if I like that showy white star. Sort of feel too monogram-ish. Anyone use Monteverde capless gel refill MB ballpoint? How do you find it? Also, would appreciate any experience you have with Montblanc Heritage 1912. Is the stainless steel marks prone? Slippery? If so Ill have to cross it out and consider just the normal black version. So doing my own math, I would love to consider all four, but specifically Lamy 2000, and MB black heritage 1912. Waterman Expert Rollerball Refill Problem

Hi all, I've got a weird problem with my Waterman Expert Rollerball pen (https://jet.com/product/Waterman-Expert-Black-with-Gold-Trim-Fine-Point-Rollerball-Pen-S0951680/1aa4b5be1b6a417e863fa54fe31332d5) and Pilot G2 refills (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004P3LW0U/). According to everything I've read on here and other places, the refills should fit just fine. However, the refill is loose inside the barrel. The nib (is that what it's called?) drops down about an eighth of an inch when I lift it off the page. Are there two different sizes I'm not aware of? Has a piece fallen out of the pen that reinforces the refill? Am I just that dumb? Thanks for any and all help! -

Help - Need Rollerball Tip That Fits Platinum Preppy.

Hello, I'm I want to buy a noodler's rollerball replacement tip because I have heard they can work on eyedropper preppy pens and I have a few of those to experiment with. However, the Goulet Pet Company told me on 06/02/2015 that: "Unfortunately, Noodler’s rollerball tips have indeed been discontinued. I’m sorry about that." This is backed my a youtube user who said: "Swiss maker of the points raised the costs so much that this product was discontinued." The comment was made in Jan 2015. So I wonder, does anyone know a online store or supplier that still sells these noodler ballpoint tips (please provide a link)? If not, does anyone know any other type of rollerball tip that will fit into a platinum preppy (I don't care if it is a $0.5 or $50 premium tip)? This might be the better option anyway because the Noodler ballpoint tips have poor reviews of leak issues or clogging and being too long/flimsy. Shame on them for attempting to raise the price on a low quality product. This is my first post on the site and I am looking forward to hear from you all. But if you attempt to troll me you will soon find out that your ink reserves will be running low! ^.~ -
Monteverde Intima Rollerball Conversion To Fp?

I picked up a Monteverde Intima in Volcano gray resin the other day. Should be in the mail today. I really like that color but found out that it's out of production so I pulled the trigger on a rollerball on the off chance I can use a FP section from another Intima I have. Couldn't find a FP around anywhere. Does anyone know if this is just a quick section swap? Looks plausible in pics even though they scaled the rollerball to look bigger than the FP. Cheers! -
All Rollerballs Skip When I Use Them

Hi, I have a problem that I am struggling to find a solution for on Google. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help! It seems I cannot use rollerball pens. Whenever I write with them the ink intermittently skips, and I find myself having to go over and over the same word in order to get the ink to flow at all. There are also times when not much ink comes out, so I have random lighter patches in my text. This has happened with every single rollerball I have ever tried, so it isn't any individual pen malfunctioning. I don't understand why this is. I have no problems at all using any other kind of pen - including gel pens and rollerballs of the type such as the Uni-ball Eye. I have had consistent problems with Parker, Lamy, Waterman and, most recently, a J Herbin cartridge rollerball. Everything I have read online states that rollerballs are less likely to skip and produce more ink than a ballpoint, so I don't understand this. I was wondering whether it is something to do with the way I hold a pen? I have attached a photo of me holding a pen - am I holding it at the wrong angle for a rollerball? Really hoping you can help - this has been driving me mad for years now!

These pens were made by Rotring in the 90s, and seem to have been discontinued since then. I am using FPs now, so I am open to selling/trading them. Is there any interest in this group for this pen? I don't know if it's the right place for this question but, here it goes: I have a Graf von faber castell intuition (elemento) rollerball, and never used it because I can't find refills to buy for it. The usual faber castell refills don't fit, and the magnum refills can't find them anywere in my country, only online, but the shiping is several times more expensive than their price. Does anyone else have any experience withe the intuition rollerball, to advice me on other refills to use. Does the Montblanc le grand refills work, ar anything else for that matter? -

Identification Help - Waterman Carene?

Hi everyone. I picked up this pen at a flea market today and I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify it. After searching around the interwebs, it looks like it's a Waterman Carene rollerball but the clip has an emblem on it. I'm not sure if this is some kind of corporate personalization or what? I don't even know if this is a legit Waterman. I don't own any others and don't have much experience with them. I've included a few pictures here. Sorry for the horrible photos. The pen body is blue with a black grip section.The cap is silver with a gold clip Thanks for any guidance! -
