Flows on two tones of Caramel, dries on two shades of Khakhi." This one is, so far, a favourite of mine. It flows nicely ans is rather wet. As other Robert Oster ink it would be perfect if only there was more lubrication and smoothness to it. Don't misinterpret me - it flows well but in extra-fine nib it simply lacks lubrication. There's something to it. definitely. I must say I enjoy the color, especially in double broad nib. It looks fresh and has has decent flow and rather good saturation. It's not water resistant. The lubrication could be better but it's not bad either. Robert Oster is a new arrival on the ink scene from the sunny climes of Australia and he produces a large range of ink colours in neat, tall bottles with secure caps and a gold label. There have been a few reviews of his inks and personally, the inks that I have tried have been very good and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Until now you had to buy directly from him, choosing seven inks to fit in an international package. Now his inks will be available through Sakura (link below). I just thought that people might like to know as it is quite an extensive range of inks and in my dealings with him he's been such a gentleman and a pleasure to order from and it's exciting to see a new ink range come to market that could potentially do very well. Thank you Claudia You rock! I'll review them in following weeks. Let's start with Emerald Green that's described as unique green [...] a beautiful representation of a multifaceted Emerald gem. Flows on glassy, dries on Emerald Green with gentle shading quality on product page. Well I can agree it flows really well. The ink is definitely wet and offers great flow. I haven't observed any misbehaviour (no feathering, no bleedthrough, no clogging or causing hard starts). It's not water resistant. Personally I dislike the color - in general I dislike such greens. If however you enjoy them and you expect ink to flow well and offer some nice shading, Emerald may be interesting choice for you. I first noticed Robert Oster's ink on ebay and wasn't too sure about it. Then I saw someone here had taken the plunge before me and the ink seemed good, so I took the plunge and contacted him. Customer service was truly excellent; he always responded very promptly and politely and was very helpful. I got seven inks in one package by ordering directly from him. I can't give a full picture review here as all my photographs are too big, so I have a picture of a comparison sheet below, after my thoughts. Moss Green: Very nice green with a slight grey aspect. Quite dark and a genuine 'moss' colour. No shading. Orange: This one doesn't come out very well in the picture. It is very bright, no shading and is a little bit like a highlighter ink but is deep enough for normal use. It 'pops'. Lime Green: Really lovely citrus green. Nice and bright with slight yellow hints underneath and a small bit of shading. It gives Kobe's lime a run for its money. Royal Red: A standard red, but quite a nice one. No shading. Looks a little flat on Tomoe. Barossa Grape: lovely murky purple. Very dark; perhaps a little like Ink of the Witch? I have nothing quite like it. Deep Sea: really awesome. Like a slightly more saturated Emerald of Chivor. Nice shading and sheen. It has a tendency to bleed a tiny bit on Tomoe, but I had no problems on Clairefontaine or Rhodia. Jade Green: Very nice murkey green, a touch lighter than Tanna Japonensis if you know that ink. Has shading and a slight brownish/yellow undertone. I simply wanted to add that these inks are really great. They all have quite strong saturation and a wetness on the nib, good flow, decent lubrication, no staining issues (some of them wash out really easily) and reasonably fast dry times. Except for the Deep Sea on Tomoe I had no issues with show through, bleed or feathering. It's the deep saturation for me that makes them really attractive. Robert Oster Signature Inks !! I was quite excited to see quick reviews of these inks. You all know how much I love new inks. New colors are always exciting to me. Looking at the line up of Robert Oster, it seems that he has been busy. More than 30 colors are currently available at his eBay store. (31 inks on eBay and maybe 7 more.. total of 38) In any case, I was dying to get my eager paws on some of his creations.. so I went ahead a selected a few colors then some more oh well. Someone might have gone a little overboard But hey!!... couldnt resist a good deal. I got: Yellow SunGreen OliveKhakiLight GreenLime GreenJadeEmeraldDeep SeaTurquoiseAustralian SkyBondi BlueBlue DenimBlue NightFire Engine RedBurgundyChocolateThey come in these cute bottles that are quite misleading.. they contain 50ml of inks and dont look much bigger than the Diamine plastic bottles. I believe Robert Oster's bottles are of a much better plastic; they are quite sturdy and the caps closes tightly. Not one spill, not even a drop of ink crept out. Mr. Oster was having a special of adding a pen (Jinhao) for every bottle you purchased. I believe that offer was for the Australian market (the weight of the pens will definitely be costly for international shipping).. In any case, he was so sweet to add 4 pens for me to try out. I never experienced this specific model of Jinhao, but I am quite happy to check them out. I LOVE broad, flex, wet pens You can imagine that I run into problems almost everywhere I go (unless sticking to the best paper). I did not bother testing with the worst paper possible. Most of us try our best to use at least decent paper. If you are forced to use bad paper, then stick to very fine nibs with medium to dry flow and you should be ok. For the purposes of this compendium-review, I use 4 types of paper. Two of them are decent fountain pen friendly (most of the time), one is excellent and the last one is not really meant for fountain pens but I happen to use it to create my swatch cards. Regular Decent Paper Black nRedRegular Decent Paper Rhodia Dot PadFantastic Paper Tomoe RiverAbsorbent Paper Maruman MnemosyneMy regular notebook is the Black nRed, I use Rhodia only for testing and Tomoe River is mostly for fun, doodling and testing inks. A great ink just looks FANTASTIC on Tomoe and because of the way it lets inks pool on the surface.. if an ink has the ability to sheen, Tomoe River will show it. To start, these inks are WET. Really wet. I do enjoy wet inks, but since most my pens are wet pens wet+wet.. is a tad too wet. I believe these inks will work much better on medium nibs and they will also help a dryish pen. Colors are nicely saturated and most of them display very nice sheen. BLACK nRED This is paper works 90% of the time. I tend to use extremely wet pens (broads and flexs) and this paper will sometimes fails me. Only very few inks misbehave on this paper. I enjoy the sturdiness of the hardbound cover and the whiteness of the paper enhances the color of the inks. I do enjoy using this paper and I was gladly surprised that NONE of the Robert Oster inks bleed, showed or feathered on this paper. Some of these inks display a nice amount of sheen on this paper

I stumbled across Robert Oster and his signature inks on eBay recently, see here. This is the front of a rather ordinary copy paper - Australian Reflex from some years ago. It is somewhat absorbent, so the dry times are really fast. However, even on this paper, there is no feathering or spreading. I am showing the back of this scan to show that there is some spotting of bleed through that is visible, but they are otherwise a very well behaved inks. This is the front of a better quality paper, Fuji Xerox Sustainable Earth copy paper. It is no longer available, but it is comparable to Double A, Kokuyo Campus or Nakabayashi papers. You can see that shading is more prominent on this paper. I haven't shown a view of the back because there was nothing to see. No show-through, no bleeding, just white paper. This is Tomoe River paper, but given that the ink behaved so well on the FX paper, there is not much improvement here, however the dry times are substantially longer. This is the back of the TR paper, demonstrating the show-through that is synonymous with this paper. What looks like bleeding just above seems to be an artefact, as it is not visible on the paper. Other notes -- The ink is reasonably saturated, but seems to have little surfactant. The Bondi Blue in particular has a hard time wetting a freshly cleaned nib. The first scan, on the lined paper, was done with the two Jinhao 599 pens that came with the inks. The other scans were made with a #6 Chinese nib fitted into a dip pen holder. Currently the vendor only has international shipping options on one ink, the Yellow Sunset. I don't know if he is willing to add that to the other inks, but if you aren't in Australia, and you are interested in the inks, just ask him. The two inks I have tried here are worthy competitors to the Blackstone Colours of Australia inks from Justwrite in Brisbane - Sydney Harbour Blue and Barrier Reef Blue. I don't think it is a matter of either/or, but both.
