  1. Recently one of my colleagues in workplace found this pen. It seems to me that this one is a Parker Duofold Senior from 1926. The nib is in excellent condition and writes smoothly. However, the sac inside has dried and crumbled. I was wondering if it would be possible to find a new sac in India. If such is not possible I would like to know whether there's any website where I can order for parts. The pen body seems to be made of ebonite whereas the blind cap at the back (which covers the button) seems to be plastic. Note: I could send the pen to Pen Hospital in Kolkata, but I had a prior experience of the nib getting damaged following the repairing of the sac of a Sheaffer. So, I am hesitant to send the pen to them again.
  2. Hi everyone, As a fountain pen collection and restoration enthusiast it has been very hard in my city to come across more affordable pens, after exhausting the selection of easily available ones (I have a tight budget as I am a student) However, a few days back I went to a stationary shop for some work and say that they had some old chelpark inks on display (ofcourse I bought all of them), curiously I asked the man if he had fountain pens, he told me that he had many old unsold ones and didn't know where they were, after a lot of persuation he agreed to look for them and have them ready in a few days. So the next day I went and he said he didn't find them and to come back a few days later. So I did, again and again. (was pretty desperate to get a hold of some childhood oens) Fortunately, after a week or so, he finally had them ready. They were not exactly vintage, but old pens indeed, some quite damaged. I got a few Camlin No. 6 pens, some Flora Pens (the model number is not known) and a couple Hero 323. All of them were more or less usable atleast after some repairs. This brings me to my question, if this man had old stocks, probably other shops do too, and it would be great to have a few tips on how I can get these shops to sell me their old stocks, even if they're broken or damaged, how do I persuade them to dig them out for me, because every other shops I've asked, have said 'no we don't have fountain pens" to my face. Btw I'm new to FPN (this is my first thread) Regards, Anurag.
  3. For those of you who've had this problem and looked closely at it, I'm sure you've seen the little spring behind the top of the clip. I'm sure you've suspected something about that spring was the source of your stress. It was. The disc you see in the picture is inside the cap, below the magnetic finial. I made a rudimentary tool to unscrew it (regular thread, CCW to loosen). First I removed the adjustable stop ring in the cap (this is reverse thread). The problem is that the ends of the spring aren't ground flat. If the spring turns such a way as the end of the coil spring seats crooked on the clip it pushes on the back of the clip at an angle. I tried to turn the spring in place but it it so compressed that I couldn't budge it. It had to come out. I ground the ends flat, as you might see on a valve spring, and put it back together. O frabjous day! It's fixed!
  4. Best greetings to all, I have been the proud owner of a Meisterstuck 147 for over 20 years. During a recent trip, the cartridge holder of my pen went missing. (please read was stolen) It is a detachable part, simply screwed to the end cap. However, Mont-Blanc does not sell replacement and i find strange to have to send my pen to a service center to screw on a detachable part. Could anyone point me in the right direction to acquire a new cartridge holder (genuine would be preferable but i may have to consider options) It is the double-cartridge model. as per the picture Many thanks to anyone who can help Best

    A Crack In The Barrel

Sadly my parker 51 has a crack in the barrel it makes me worry to use the pen fearing that some pressure might snap the barrel. So i ask how do one repair cracks in Lucite, I have been thinking of using acrylic cement but i would like to confirm if this is the correct way to go about this. Thank you for reading TheBeginner(TB)
  6. Okay, guys. I cant catch a break with Montblanc and this one really REALLY hurts. Like seriously gives me chest pain. I have a 1964-69 Mb 149 with all original parts. It writes well and I was surprised about how great the condition was until I noticed ink on my thumb. I couldnt figure it out until tonight. There is a hairline crack in the barrel near the collar. (In the pictures, its under the scotch tape). Im absolutely gutted. And dont know what to do. So is there a solution? Can the crack be sealed from inside the barrel? Recommendations on who might be able to help? Michael Masuyama is probably not going to help me out this time - Im assuming I need a MB expert. Im so sad right now. Shawnee
  7. I was thinking about buying a stereo microscope ( my budget is around 250$ to 300$ max) , to do various nib works such as grinding polishing etc. I have a very good belomo 12x loupe but the magnification just isn't enough for me. I want to be able to see very fine details on the tipping of the nib which I can't see with the loupe, especially when working on finer nibs. Now I do have a few options on what to buy, but really need someones opinion. The first choice would be the Amscope se400-z ( https://amzn.to/2SbzszH ). Seems like a good deal and has good reviews. The problem is that it does not have variable zoom plus I don't know if 20x magnification would be enough to show me the finer details of the tipping material and if there would be a noticable difference compared to the loupe. The other option is buying a used microscope from ebay, perhaps from a better brand (leica, zeiss etc) but at my budget most of the ones that I find have pretty much 20x zoom at most (usually its even less, around 10x). The third option would be to buy something unbranded from aliexpress (https://bit.ly/2WCgfps I have something like this in mind) which has more zoom and it is variable too. But again I am trying to avoid this, because I am not certain about the quality of the product and due to the fact that parcels outside eu get stuck at customs, I'll be forced to pay something around 20 euros plus 27% of the price of the item (including shipping). Ideally I would like to buy the amscope se400-z, if 20x magnification is enough to see any difference when comparing it to the loupe. So my question is, is it worth it? Will there be much difference compared to the loupe? Does anyone more experienced have any other proposals, such as another microscope that I have not considered? Any information would be much appreciated and helpful

    Sheaffer Craftsman Ii Repair

How do I go about repairing this Craftsman? I managed to easily take out the nib unit, but am stuck on taking out the packing at the base of the barrel. Also, what parts would I need to make it function again?

    Magnifying Visor

For the past several years I have been doing some of my own nib smoothing with the help of a loop but need to go to the next level and get a magnifying visor, probably an illuminated one. Welcome recommendations for a visor that has multiple magnification options. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.

    Repair Response Letter & Receipt

To those who have had repairs done by Montblanc, does this look legit?
  12. Hi all A business acquaintance of mine has a MB but does not know the model (not helpful I know) but just looking for some general advice. The barrel has a large crack where it was trapped in a desk drawer upon closing. What would you advise as the best course of action: Send to MB for a replacement (or repair if possible)Try to source a replacement elsewhere (eg independent specialist, eBay) If anyone knows of an independent specialist, that would be great. I will try to get a photo but in the meantime, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Jon
  13. The finial of my Diplomat Excellence broke. Some piece of plastic or something snapped, which meant that the finial fell out. I stuck it together with a lump of blu-tak. I e-mailed Diplomat to ask if it would be possible to get a repair or replacement. The reply that came said that the pen came with a five year guarantee. If I sent them proof of purchase (a digital copy of my Amazon invoice) they'd send me a replacement cap. The new cap arrived in the post today. I didn't know that Diplomat came with a five year guarantee (most pens come with two at most). Just thought I'd share this with everyone.
  14. I just started trying to fix older pens and in one my ebay grab bags I got Sheaffer 875 balance vac fill. (I had no idea what I was getting into. Lol) So I soaked it for a couple days, got the section unscrewed without breaking anything, the nut came off the rod easily enough, and I got the packing unit out in tact. So here's where I need help. 1. What exactly do I need? Obviously I need a plunger washer, as the other one was in 5 or 6 pieces. But how do I know if I need to replace the packing unit, washer etc? I'm really trying to spend as little as possible as my wife is an accountant and WILL call me out. For whatever parts I do need what size replacements? 2. The blind cap is stripped. It will screw on to the barrel but it wont catch the rod threads. I was thinking of putting a bit of epoxy then grease the threads so they wont stick. Good idea? Bad idea? Other ideas??? Thanks Jon
  15. Hi Sheaffer's lovers, I recently purchased a "repair box" that I will restore lightly to become a storage box for some of my collection, and in it was this fantastic manual and parts list. I figured I would make the images available. Enjoy! Matt
  16. I have a Schaeffer Balance II, purchased years ago and the tube running through the back of the section was damaged. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any chance this can be repaired or replaced for a reasonable sum?
  17. I received a very beautiful, if broken, vintage button filler some time ago and started working on it last week. It needs a new sac and this I can handle, but the pressure bar is quite rough and a little rusted in some places. This is my first repair so I'm not quite sure what I can and can't do. Should I replace the bar? I can't find a right size replacement (7 cm) anywhere so I'm thinking of just using this old one. The bar is not snapped or cracked and it's still very springy.

    Wordathon Ballpoint Pen Cap Repair

I'm trying to remove the cap jewel, and tighten the pocket clip, on an Esterbrook Wordathon ballpoint pen (playing with a junker, to learn the technique). Anyone have a picture of the Estie Wordathon ballpoint pen taken apart and in its various component pieces, or an exploded drawing of same? I need to drill out the part that holds the cap jewel in place, and I simply can't see into the barrel well enough to visualize what needs done. I also need to do some cleaning since the ballpoint cartridge leaked. Help. Anyone?

    Meisterstuck 146 Repair

Hi everyone. I have a 146 bought at auction some time ago. Unfortunately I never really used it as it is leaking from around the nib. I was hoping someone could provide me with contact details for John Sorowka or another alternative for repair. I want to see other options than sending it to montblanc (170). Or maybe the montblanc price is good. Im just not sure. Many thanks in advance. Oh Im based in Ireland. M
  20. I picked up this pen at a discount when Pear Tree was going out of business and it's endured some abuse over the years. I've taken it apart a few times to clean it including pulling the nib out of the feed to flush it with water from the sink. Increasingly, however, it's been giving me performance problems. Recently I noticed that the nib no longer goes back into the feed tightly and it is prone to some leakage. Did I screw something up, like perhaps accidentally flush an O-ring out of the feed? Is it user-serviceable if I did? (I may be in the market for a new workhorse pen soon if this is going to continue to be a pain without an easy fix. My budget would be somewhere between $20-80 and I'd want a F/XF nib which makes the Japanese pens an appealing place to look.)

    Esterbrook J Loose Section

I just bought an Esterbrook J that's in pretty good condition. Unfortunately, the section is loose from the barrel and is able to spin and be removed without much force at all. None of my other Esties have this problem, so I'm wondering two things. A) Is this fixable? If so, what is the best way to repair this problem?

    Grommet/tassie Replacement

Hi, everyone. I am very new to Esterbrook repair and have a question. Ive got a J that had a mangled barrel jewel which I removed and found out that it was a threaded jewel. The problems Im having are that the tassie (I think thats the word for the little metal trim ring) is gone and the replacement jewel I have is a press fit. Are there sources for tassies or the grommets that the press fit pens use? Any help is much appreciated. Taylor

    Help With Sheaffer Admiral Touchdown

Apologies if my question has already been answered. I did a search and didn't find what I want to know. I have the Sheaffer pictured (I hope) below. I've used it a couple times without problems, but now the filler mechanism has become almost impossible to move. I looked up a couple videos on servicing touchdowns, but none were quite like the one I have with the window. The barrel of others in the videos seemed to unscrew from the feed section easily; mine won't budge and before I try to persuade it further, I thought I'd ask here if anyone knows whether the section and barrel are supposed to come apart on these models. If not, do I merely need to lubricate the metal tube of the mechanism to get it to move again? What questions should I be asking? Thanks in advance for any advice anyone has to offer. Ruth
  25. Hi, I got this Cross pen and pencil set years and years ago from Office Depot, it was the most expensive pen and pencil I ever bought, like $30 and I used it all the time. The pencil is a twist, and should take .7mm lead. I can't even remember when anymore, but at some point, the pencil just stopped working. No lead that I put in would function and I was too young to know how to take care of it (I would put lead in through the front if I was being lazy which I have since learned is actually terrible). Anyway, I have been trying to put lead inside, but there's something in there. I used a Pilot Lead Cleaner thingy and it went inside, didn't make contact with anything and didn't loosen up anything in there. I've put a wire in there and it hit against something which wouldn't budge. There doesn't seem to be a simple way to disassemble it, I've gently tugged and turned every bit of to see if I could get the guts out (I mean, I know I can take the back off and there's a little tube for lead there but that's where it's jammed, unfortunately, the little tube is too deep for me to get anything really in there, even light - I'm only guessing that it's jammed to be fair). I'm just sad because it's pretty, it's well-built, and would match perfectly with a couple of my fountain pens! If only I could get it working again. What can I do? Is there anything left that I could do, or is it dead? The set isn't really made anymore, I found one on Ebay fo $40 named Cross Classic Signature Pen & 0.7mm Pencil, and I won't pay $40 for the pencil since I don't care about ballpoints~ Anyhow, it wouldn't be the end of my life if I can't salvage it, I got a Pilot S20 that's really comfortable to write with.
