  1. This morning's mail brought the first thing that I have ever bought through Massdrop. The package I got includes three colors: Atlantic (blue), Dublin (green) and Australia (red). So far I've just been trying out the Atlantic in my TWSBI Vac 700. It's a dull color; I can hardly decide if it's gray-blue or more of blue-gray. I knew when I ordered these that they were dull colors, and I'm fine with that. My taste has gravitated toward subdued colors recently. Label reads: Made in Germany by Rohrer & Klingner Leipzig-Co. Shake well before use! To prevent dry residues drain the writing instrument after use and rinse several times with water. Hmm, not sure I've ever got a bottle of fountain pen ink before with such explicit warnings. It does make me wonder why more ink makers haven't gotten into cellulose-reactive dyes, since Noodler's Ink has demonstrated how well they can work. When it comes to waterproof ink, Noodler's is the king and all the rest are the peasants. Anyhow, this Super5 ink is indeed waterproof (as indicated by a quick dunk), and it feels smooth on the page. Maybe I should give credit to the TWSBI or the Rhodia pad, but the ink is behaving Just Fine so far.
  2. Sailor Kiwa-Guro Pigmented Black Ink Bottle 50ml. Goes to the first PM. ** Canada Only** This is a pigmented ink. Great for people that require waterproof inks.
  3. And yet another review while I'm going. Forgive me posting all these at once, but I've been sitting on a stack of these for a couple weeks and finally had the time to scan them in this weekend. This is another Organics Studio ink. And another one that has almost no information up yet. No reviews and no sample pictures on the sites that are selling them. Also another one I'd been excited about, since this one is a pigment based ink. Should make it more permanent. Water resistant and fade resistant. It's a nice vibrant color with nice shading. It flows wetter than I thought, and dries quick enough. As you can see the water resistance is very high. I'd call it waterproof. As for fade resistance, we'll have to see what happens during the Fade Olympics, since I know Tyler sent a bunch of samples of ink to be tested. But my guess is this one'll do well. Also to note, I was impressed how easily this one cleaned up. I know you need to take extra care with pigment based inks to get them all out, but I have some conventional inks that are harder to clean than this one. Overall very nice and nothing but good things to say on this one. Edit: note on cleaning
  4. Another new ink that hasn't seen a lot of information out yet. This is another one of Organics Studio's pigmented inks. Waterproof, bleachproof, 80proof. There was an interesting writing texture to this. It was smooth, but with texture. I'm thinking it's due to the particles in the ink. It was unique to my experience. But then I haven't tried a lot of pigmented inks. This had either a really long drying time on Rhodia paper, or it was one of those inks that tends to smear while still dry, like Rouge Hematite. I did try it out on non-coated paper, and it dried quickly with no smearing. So I'm guessing there's just some bit that the coated paper isn't letting absorb enough. It handles cheaper paper like a champ. If you tend to use cheap paper or notebooks, this one actually works great. It has shading, but it's black shading, not washed out gray. It did indeed laugh off the water test like it tickled. So, in summation, a good waterproof ink for plain paper. You don't need special paper to make the most of this, and in fact, if there's too much coating and the paper's too slick, it'll tend to smear. But I saw no problems with cheap cheap paper. I'm looking forward to seeing how this handles fade tests, because this might be a really good one for cheap composition books and notebook paper.
  5. Here's one of the pigment inks that Organics Studio recently released. This one is apparently entirely pigmented with Chlorophyll. Which is pretty neat actually. It's definitely waterproof, as the scan should show. Which is good, because the color's so light. It dries a little darker than it seems going down. Actually, there's a bit more shading while writing, and the really light parts darken, and the darker parts lighten. It sort of equalizes. It doesn't look runny or thin after it dries, which again is good. Because some really light greens I've tried look like watered down highlighter. Try as I might, I just can't see myself using this color. Too light and the hue isn't really my favorite (though pea green is very appropriate). That's very much a personal taste though.
