  1. For those that use mechanical pens what is your poison? I used to prefer 0.3 mm lead but after a while I have realised 0.5 mm lead is more versatile and stronger. I currently love my 0.5 mm Rotring 800
  2. I'm sure a lot of people here receive the Jetpens newsletter in their email. When I saw this today, I had to ask myself if I could one day bring myself to buy this thing, as I frequently use wooden pencils and erasers. Even the promo video is tongue in cheek and the thing looks like a joke to me... I'm a stationary freak like a lot of you out, but this... I don't know. Would any of you pencil users buy (and actually use) an item like this? I really am curious. Here it is: http://www.jetpens.com/Midori-Eraser-Dust-Mini-Cleaner-II-Blue/pd/12947
  3. I like triangular pencils because they don't roll so much as other shapes, and because they fit into the loop of my rhodia notepad more securely than hexagonal ones (don't have any circular ones to hand but I guess they would also fit less securely). My problem is that I'm lazy so don't want to have to sharpen it too often, so I thought I'd try an F or H pencil (I think that's 2.5 or 3 on the US scale). I can't find any like that though. Does anybody know where to get them?

    Rotring 600 Pencil Repair

I need to repair a Rotring 600 / Newton mechanical pencil. I am not sure exactly where the piece went missing, but the other day I came across the pencil that I had stashed away awhile ago. I realized I had tucked it away because it is missing one of the top parts. I was probably unscrewing and disassembling the pencil at some point and misplaced the part. Calls and emails to Newell are unsuccessful as they do not have any repair parts available. So now it's time to fabricate the part myself. Does anyone have a Newton 600 pencil, and a set of calipers as well? It is the newer old style and the part I am looking for is described in the pictures. I really only need the thread dimensions, I can figure out the rest based on what I have. Any help would be appreciated!

    Gold Ones

I've had a Parker 65 fountain pen for more than 30 years (12ct rolled gold, English made) I recently aquired a matching ball pen and pencil for £20 each and almost instantly lost the ball pen. On looking for a replacement, I found a gold 180 fountain pen and ball pen set (made in the USA) for £40. Is this the beginning of the end? I seem to have paid a very reasonable price for the 180 set, looking at Ebay. I also have an elderly Platignum which actually writes very nicely. I hope I can successfully upload some pics. Well here they are, not in the order I had hoped, and quite large. I have identified most of them, but not the Ball pen or the Pencil. Hope some one can help.. Thanks to you all for your welcome!
  6. Not sure where to ask about this, but this board seems to get good traffic. I'll even review it if I get the time to make up for improper discussion. Anybody know where this pen came from, how much it's worth, where I can buy another (just for hypotheticals), if it's sterling silver, or plated with chrome, rhodium, platinum, or silver? Any information is appreciated, I've scoured the web. If any further pictures are needed, let me know, I'll be posting pictures of the inside when I get more time...

    Hello From Norfolk, England

I can upload some pics if that would be of any interest.
  8. Okay, so today I hit an Estate Sale and snagged a Pacific Pen and Pencil set. Both cleaned up quite nicely and the brass looks good also, but I've never heard of this .....what ....9th tier, lol, company? I have not been able to find one single reference to either pen or pencil and nothing for Pacific. I'm at a complete loss. The nib is the basic Supreme 14K Gold Plate and the pen needs a new sack. Pencil needs lead, lol. The color is beautiful and the emblem looks to be a laurel with a P in the middle. Can't find any info anywhere on this!! Has anyone ever heard of such an animal? The nib says nothing of the size, so no clue what size it is. I may have gotten taken on this grouping, but hoping it writes well. Not a real flexible nib, but in good shape. Any thought would be be appreciated!! (The dark clip is on the pencil.) Attached Images

  10. Howdy Pilgrims, So I've been searching for an EDC case/pouch - ah that old gem BUT My system involves carrying something like my Visconti HS Bronze (sometimes something else, but not often) and a Rotring 600 mechanical pencil. My issue is, that any pouch I've found falls short in either one of two criteria: - quick access - securely housing both a fat fountain pen and a thin mechanical pencil (without rubbing) My current system is this (oh yeah, livin' the dream)... The zipper means slow access and the bit of cardboard falls out all the time, but at least keeps my two pals from bashing each other up :/ And yes...that's a bit of tubing from a breast pump machine that came home from the hospital with our baby...it stops the point of the pencil being crushed in the zipper... Can anyone say dodgy? Can anyone offer a suggestion for my needs?
  11. Hello All, My name is John and I just joined this forum to find a little help. I was going through some old boxes and found 3 Montblanc items that I received back in 1990 for graduation. 1 fountain pen, 1 rollerball and 1 pencil. I had forgotten about them and was happy to find them Anyway, I need help figuring out what they are worth. I have looked at eBay and on classifieds but cannot find equivalent items to get an idea of their value. I went to a Montblanc store at the mall and had the sales person check them out and he gave me the current retail of todays models but I have no idea if older unused models should go for the same price or lower or higher ?? That is where I could use some help, assessing the value of what I have. They are all unused and 2 of them still have the boxes and paper work - I can't remember what I did with the 3rd box but I have never used any of them more than just to try out the Rollerball and the Pencil, so they are all in great condition. I looked for serial #'s but all I could find was "Germany" on the pencil and "West Germany" ( remember that on the pens. After researching I noticed they didn't put serial #'s on earlier models. Not sure exactly the year of these but it had to have been 1990 or earlier since that is when I got them. Here are some pics if you can help me out I would really appreciate it. ( sorry about the shallow depth of field didn't have my tripod handy, I can reshoot them if you want more detail ) This is what the salesman told me I had. Mont Blanc Meisterstück LeGrand Fountain Pen - Current model list price $705 Mont Blanc Meisterstück Classique Rollerball Pen - Current model list price $465 Mont Blanc Meisterstück Classique Mechanical 0.7mm Pencil - Current model list price $420 Thanks, John
  12. Massdrop (a deals site, you'll need an account to order but they're quick to make and free) has the Rotring 800 mechanical pencil on sale for $42 plus shipping, if you want one I think this is a decent deal, here's a direct link: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/rotring-800-mechanical-pencil
  13. I found this pencil a while ago. Having never seen a Rotring till now, I thought the design was very distinctive. What do you think? Does it look like a clone? http://i.imgur.com/pU7aFk5.jpg The sticker says M&G AMP37201. The body is about 14cm long (the above grid is in 1/2 inches), completely metal, very solid and has good heft. http://i.imgur.com/z1ch03K.jpg Nice knurled grip: http://i.imgur.com/9fJrKsi.jpg Lead size "indicator" (doesn't do anything) and removable clip: http://i.imgur.com/6UQUA54.jpg http://i.imgur.com/my4xD4J.jpg http://i.imgur.com/RUHBKJn.jpg It's a nice writer, but I've got no clue how it compares to an actual Rotring. My best mechanical pencil experience is still this old Papermate Clearpoint, aged around ~7 years: http://i.imgur.com/5GgeCNx.jpg
  14. Hello all, I've searched for my ideal mechanical pencil on-and-off for years now, and finally came to my senses to stop and "ask for directions". I'm in a physics PhD program, and spend some serious time with a pencil in hand. That's been the case for years, though, and I'm more than ready to plunk down some cash on one that'll last me - and more importantly, that'll be comfortable for the duration. What I'm looking for: - 0.5 mm graphite - Aluminum/stainless steel/metal body, circular (solid construction) - No clip I understand that "no clip" is an odd requirement (and the one that's causing me trouble in finding a suitable model), but I suppose I have odd hands; anything with a clip winds up irritating my hand in the end. It's not the end of the world, and I've obviously dealt with it over the years, but finding a good pencil without a clip would just make the heck out of my day. Dave's has yielded some decent results, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Models I like anyway are: Staedtler 925 25 Pentel Graph Gear 1000 Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

    Stories Of Pens

Hi I am researching stories to do with pens in the hope of turning them into a book. All tales that are humorous, poignant or just plain interesting, would be welcome. With the World War in Europe centenary coming up there must be stories from the trenches that European members might have that run in the family and there sure must be some fascinating tales from US members that they have heard that could be used. Contact me - Charles Whitehead at talesofmypen@gmail.com I am a member of the UK based international organisation the Writing Equipment Society (www.wesonline.org.uk) and have sat for two spells on the Governing Council.
  16. Hi guys, Does anyone know what model is this?I'm looking for information! This pencil is marked Mont-Blanc 18 K.R
  17. Seeing as you fine people of FPN taught me pretty much everything I know about pens, handwriting, stationery, etc. - I'm hoping someone can help with a PENCIL question. In Feb 2012, I purchased some writing implements from the estate of Rowena Wright Willis - who it turned out, was John McCain's Aunt. The sale had an enormous quantity of obscenely fine items - from jewelry to furniture - so I managed to walk away with my small items for a pittance ($40ish). One of these items is the pencil in question, a Tiffany & Co. propelling pencil in silver and ivory. There are nearly no scratches to be found on the silver, and it is quite easy to see the wavy lines usually found in ivory. It takes a lead slightly larger than 1.1mm. I've exhausted every last ounce of my Google magic, of which there is generally a hearty supply, and come up with very little. I looked through the T&Co Blue Books (1894,1907) available online but did not find a matching description. Can anyone help? Photo Of Bhr Esterbrook Pencil

For your enjoyment... used Instagram's contrast (or whatever the last button on the right does, LOL) feature and it brought out the imprint nicely but it is not this green in real life. The BHR is a nice vintage brown now. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2840/10041957585_a72fc5e996_o.jpg
  19. Good article on Charles Keeran's from his hometown newspaper, The Pantagraph about his development of the Eversharp mechanical pencil http://www.pantagraph.com/news/local/inventor-never-got-rewards-of-pencil-business/article_1941d5f0-ec13-11e2-83ac-001a4bcf887a.html
  20. Hey guys, I'm a young composer and soon to be college student. I currently write music with regular wood case pencils, but I'm interested in trying a mechanical pencil. I have heard good things about the Alvin draftmatic pencils and will probably buy one unless someone can suggest a better pencil. In music you need to be able to write thin and thick lines, so just one pencil probably wouldn't cut it. My question is what size lead should I be using, and what I should do about making the thicker lines because I don't feel like .9 would be thick enough, although I'm not sure.

    Montblanc Discounts

Hi All, We are clearing out cabinets to make room for the new collections and we now have some incredible Montblanc discounts! Since Montblanc doesn't allow discounted prices announced publicly in our webstore, I kindly request you to send me a PM and I will provide you with the list of available pens and the discounted prices! And I must say ... some pens are really attractively priced . Best regards, Dennis www.lacouronneducomte.nl
  22. Hello, I've wanted an old pencil for a long time and I just came across a classic green Eversharp mechanical. I just have a couple questions since I've never owned one like this before. What kind of lead do I need to get for this? I'm assuming I have to go online to get it.There seems to be a little piece of lead still in there that isn't coming out when I press the button. Do I need a full piece of lead to make it work or is it broken? If it's broken, what can I do to repair it? Thanks, ~C
