  1. Hello! I hope that this is the right place to post this. I'm sure some of you have heard now about the DC Pen Show's first ever Pay-It-Forward Table dedicated to giving back to the community! Krystle Azer of SquishyInk (creator of the Hippo Noto) will be at the table as well, running it with me. There will be starter kits available for new FP users, as well as items for FP veterans. So if you have any pens or pen paraphernalia that is collecting dust, we are happy to pass it along to other members of the community. The FP community is one of the very best things about the hobby, and this is just a way to further give and share in the spirit of ink. Check the link below for more details. https://www.thepenthusiast.com/dc-pen-show-pay-it-forward-table **this is not for profit and all things donated will be given free of charge or go toward the cost of the table.

    Best Pen Case?

Hi! I'm starting to build my collection, but want to take multiple pens out with me, how ever, as I am a student, I don't want to be lugging around a large case to keep my pens safe. So what would you guys suggest, I'm after a small(ish) case, which can hold 3 pens which will protect them from becoming scratched or crushed within my bag. Hopefully something like this exists. If not, anything similar will help. And all answers appreciated. Many thanks Tom
  3. Hi guys, Somehow I am into brown-color pens these days. So far I only have Parker Vacumatic with golden brown color. I can't decide on which brown pen I should get next. Would you mind showing me the brown-color pens you have? Thank you!!
  4. Hello all! I don't really know which category this falls into, so i'll post it here. I'm looking for an ink that is dye based, relatively fade/water resistant, that does not corrode a pen if filled for an extended time (let's say 2-3 weeks) and is blue/blue-black/black (or any other color you would consider as work appropriate). Any recommendations?

By working with small stripes of precious shell material, the artist of the Raden pen creates a beautiful, impressive piece of art. Each piece is truly unique. The first step to create the fountain pen Raden M800 Royal Gold is to give the surface a deep black impression by using the special Japanese Urushi lacquer. Then the typical stripes are made with particles from the precious white mother of pearl shell. A 24 carat gold foil is carefully affixed to the backside of these stripes. The stripes are fixed to the cap and barrel by a coating of lacquer. Finally, the artist individually signs and numbers each fountain pen with the Maki-e technique, which used to be reserved exclusively for Japanese Royals as an indication of their power. With the limited edition Raden series, Pelikan applies this wonderful Japanese decorative craft to fountain pen models of its famous Souveraen series. The Raden M800 Royal Gold fountain pens are masterpieces with finely-chased 18 carat gold nib in the size M, accentuated with a rhodium decor. Each fountain pen is encased in a traditional Japanese gift box which is made of Paulownia wood. The Raden M800 Royal Gold will be available mid-June 2017 in a limited edition of 388 pieces worldwide. 6. Does anyone know anything about this multi-pencils existence? http://davesmechanicalpencils.blogspot.com/2007/04/rotring-trio-pencil.html Been scouring the internet and decided to stop here. If anyone has one that they would part with that would be immensely appreciated
  7. Hi, this post might not seem suitable for this section but it actually is. Alright, i used to have a cursive handwriting and everyone in my life criticized it because it was HELL ugly. I found this forum and ordered a William Mitchell Calligraphy pen, learnt a new handwriting font (Chancery Italic Hand). It is still super beautiful and mesmerizes everyone for some seconds at a first glance but the problem is that I have to re-grind my pen every week because it wears out and slowly becomes a normal round pen. Secondly, as it is a calligraphic font, it takes time to write and isn't as fast as my cursive used to be. So, I have two choices. 1) I can order a fountain pen with a stub nib (which won't wear out soon) and keep my handwriting font (Chancery Italic) 2) I want you guys to recommend me another handwriting font and this time, it will be a round font i.e written with a non-italic, non-calligraphy nib, a simple, round nib. I think the 2nd option is better, I need a font that is faster (like cursive) and looks neat (NOT like cursive). Or maybe my cursive is worse and I need to work on it. What do you guys think?

  10. I recently received a Meisterstuck Montblanc pen with 925 on the pen. Can anyone inform me on what this pen actually is, there doesn't seem to be any identification on the case. Also how much would this used one go for (estimate is fine). Finally how would one go about selling a pen like this safely and for the greatest amount of capital possible. Thank you in advance.

A.w. Faber 992 Ef Grey And Gold

Good morning everybody! I'm new to this community and first i want to write a few things about me. My name is Nora and i study architecture in cologne (germany). Maybe that's the reason why writing instruments have always fascinated me! A few weeks ago i inherited some pens, pencils and other wonderful old things by a good friend of my grandpa (he was a technical drawer)! There are also some 1950s Rotring Rapidograph in their original packaging! But now i will come to my original question. Among the items was also a "old looking" pen by A.W. Faber in a beautiful grey with gold details (i wonder if they are real gold?). The nib says Osmia 14K 585 and the model of the pen seems to be 992 EF. Can anyone tell me what the EF behind the number means? And how old could this pen be? I think it was made in the 1950s, but correct me if i'm wrong! I Couldn't find anything about this model....so i would be very happy if you could tell me something about it! I think it is a beautiful pen and i'm looking forward to use it! I'm super excited and looking forward to your answers! Have a nice sunny day Nora (i hope my english is okay)

    Lamy Lx Broken Clip!

Hey guys. Just joined. I had my lamy lx in my pocket today and i bumped into a couch causing the clip to somewhat pop out on the left side of the clip. It is loose and doesn't clip now. For the past few hours i've been breaking my hand trying to do what people suggest and both stick a pencil in the cap and push it hard, and also the same but unscrew the finial screw with a coin. Neither have worked. The cap pulls out just a bit and scewing does nothing much. It is metal so idk if it's different than other lamy's. Does anyone know what i can do, or how i can replace it if needed? Thanks guys

Pen To Be Extinct In A Decade?

According the Microsoft CEO the pen will be extinct in a decade. What do you think? I am sure none of you feel this way, right. Or will the pen outlast Microsoft? You can read the article here: http://www.cnet.com/news/microsofts-ceo-expects-pen-to-be-extinct-in-a-decade/

Take a picture of something you wrote! I usually look for a random quote or excerpt I can put down in writing, in most cases it ends up being tossed to the trash, I guess i just enjoy the writing process itself... Montblanc 146, MB Midnight Blue
  17. Hello FPN Members, I am a student who is currently looking for a budget fountain pen under Rs. 250. What would be the best choice? I am located in Delhi and I have looked through all online stores but alas, every budget pen is either unavailable or over priced. Can anyone tell me where to find one? Thanks

    Hello From Sunny California!

Hello FPN community! Been an outside viewer on FPN (yep, went down the rabbit hole...) for over a year now while building my pen and ink collection (and confidence). Looking forward to becoming more active in forum discussions. ink!
  19. Today on TWSBI's FB & Instagram pages they announced a Lime green Eco will be available from mid October. Looks pretty nice, although I'll believe it when I see it, considering how long the clear caps took to come to market....

    Domain Lion Fountain Pen

This is a review of a new pen I got recently, it was a complete impulse purchase but I was pleasantly surprised. First Impressions (6/10) This pen isn’t exactly a looker, but I wasn’t expecting that for $1.25. It came in a packaged envelope, and the pen was directly inside. (No box) It is made entirely of plastic (except the nib, obviously), and feels light in the hand. It did, however, come with a convertor, which helped my first impression of it. Appearance (4/10) Like I said before, the pen doesn’t look all that great (In my opinion). It is beige colored, and the cap has little golf ball-esque dimples on it. The cap and nib are steel colored, although the clip is made of plastic. The clip also has a small plastic red “gemstone” on it. The section of the pen is black, and has a subtle triangle grip. (Not as intense as a Lamy Safari, but it’s there). Design/Size/Weight (7/10) The pen is very light, being made out of plastic, and is fairly small. It is closest in size and weight to a Pilot 78g, but that is not to say that it’s design is remotely similar. Instead of the 78g’s simple elegance, the pen somehow manages to seem bland and gaudy at the same time, with a boring and flat beige section and a dimpled cap and fake gemstone bedazzled clip. The nib and section are plain black and silver, respectively, with “Domain Lion” printed on the steel nib. Nib (9/10) Looking at the past categories, I did not have high hopes for this nib. I was wrong. This is where the pen shines. The nib smoothly lays a fine line, and on a scale of 1-10 (1 being very dry, 10 being one of those nibs that is so wet can get your fingers inky just by writing a sentence with it), it is a 6-7 in terms of wetness. Unlike many of its Chinese brethren, it is not a complete nail, either. Although I did not fully push it to its limits, the nib gives a fair amount of spring to play around with. To be entirely honest, the pen I own which most accurately matches it’s writing characteristics is my 18k M Pilot Vanishing Point. Disclaimer on the nib portion of this review: On a lot of Cheap Chinese pens (I’m looking at you Hero 616), nib quality is inconsistent, so I may have just gotten really lucky with an awesome nib. Filling System (8/10) Not much to say here. It’s a simple cartridge convertor system. The pen came with a convertor. I inked it up with 1670 Emerald de Chivor, and have had no problems thus far. Cost and Value (10/10) I got this pen for $1.25 shipped, but they can be had now for $0.99 on Ebay. For a pen with a nib that feels like my vanishing point (At a dollar who cares if it retracts) it’s a complete steal, even if it is ugly. Conclusion (8/10) Yes, this is an ugly pen. But the nib is incredible, and it’s a dollar! I’ve used this pen daily for a week in prep for this review, and I have to say it’s really starting to grow on me. I never had a single issue with it, it always started up right away, and after a weekend of not being used I uncapped it and it started right back up again, even with Emerald de Chivor (which has given me trouble with those things in the past). Overall this is probably one of the best $1.25’s I’ve ever spent on a pen, and I would highly recommend it.

    Help Identifying A Vintage Pen

I'm having trouble identifying a pen that was found in an estate. The seller says the cap band only says "Montblanc" and "Germany". When I asked if there are any engravings at the tail, he said he could not find any. My familiarity only goes so far as to some pens in the 1950's, but I can't seem to figure out what this one is. Any thoughts? http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/Zu8AAOSwDmBY4Drn/$_58.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/kAYAAOSwSlBY4Drd/$_58.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/6UAAAOSwTM5Y4Dry/$_58.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/JRoAAOSwsW9Y4Dr9/$_58.JPG http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/GfQAAOSw4CFY4DsI/$_58.JPG
  22. I was cleaning the nib, when it slipped and stabbed the top of my hand. I jerked it away and it went flying. When it landed it stabbed me AGAIN an inch from the first stab wound! Don't ask me how that even happened, but it did. Now there are two tattoos on the top of my hand visible to everyone everywhere. I have my eternal shame tattoo'd to the top of my hand! Is there any way to get rid of the marks??? I was thinking about making a very small incision around it with a knife, cleaning it, and wrapping it as I do with splinters, but what else could I do that doesn't hurt like heck? Thanks! -Z
  23. PEN REVIEW - JINHAO 156 This review is probably late for a a pen which i procured 3 months back. I bought this pen the moment i took a look at it. It looks fabulous as you can see from the image below. Its a beautiful looking shiny silver chrome plated metal pen with a slim and slender profile. Design : The pen is quite sleek which is rounded at the bottom and the cap is fitted with metal clip which is finished in the matte silver finish. The pen comes in two finished stainless steel finish and black shiny finish. The grip section is finished in the matte sliver finish with the rings engraved. The pen operates via a converter filling mechanism which is sub standard in quality. The center-band (bottom of the cap) is finished in matte silver finish which displays the name of the brand and pen. The cap comes with the good spring clip and inner cap lining which is made out of cheep plastic and came out once or twice which then i had to glue to the cap. The silver stainless steel finish is easily prone to smudges but still looks amazing. The balance of pen is not that well when we post the cap, however it feels very amazing when writing without the cap. Fits my small hands perfectly. It will be good for people with small hands and actually lot of ladies will like the pen for size and looks. JInhao 156 – Broken DownNib: The nib is steel M, marked 18 KGP comes with beautiful carving. Its monotone silver finish. The nib however is a disappointment when it comes to writing. It did not glide through like my other Jinhao pens, rather i had to apply some pressure to write. Even after some fine tuning i was not happy with the performance of a nib. Feed is made of the plastic. Pros: Great Stainless Steel Finish Sleek and Slender Low CostCons: Poor inner lining plastic cap Bad Nib Cheap quality converterBelow is my hand written review in detail for further reference. Bottom line: I will not recommend buying it.

    Question About The Visconti Hs

Hello people =) this is my first post and sadly a not pleasant one, and here it comes, i just bought my visconti homo sapiens dark age, last week, first day worked (or it seem to) properly, afterwards when i uncaped it i got ink leak, cleaned the nib, cleaned the pen, the feed and everything and tried to use it again, but it again got some leak, ive read post about people getting leak issues with this fountain pen, however most of them (not to say all ive read) have leak from the union of the nib unit to the pen, my leakage is from the feed.. i clean the feed again and i get more leak just after writing a little bit, wonder if theres a way to fix it instead of sending it back to warranty, thanks in advance and great forum !

    Ruby-Red Pelikan M320

I just bought a brand-new Ruby Red M320 and I couldn't be happier with a pen. Now, I must preface my totally subjective remarks by saying I have very small hands and I love miniature anything, especially mini fountain pens. But when I ordered it, I had no idea it was such a teeny-tiny, adorable slip of a pen! I opened the box and was totally floored by how cute it looked, lying there in its full-size Pelikan container. At the same time, the classic beauty of this pen took my breath away. The finish on this pen is GORGEOUS. (I'm trying to attach photos to this review.) When I hold the pen up to the light, the pinkish flakes in its depths sparkle and shimmer in layers. It gives the rich, beautiful, ruby-red resin real depth. While writing with this pen over the last few days, I have frequently sat with it open for as much as five minutes at a time. Every time, as soon as I put nib to paper, it started right up without hesitation. This diminutive pen performs every bit as well as my other Pelikans. I had my M320 reground to a stub by the seller, and I am very happy with the results. The nib has a sweet little spring to it that adds flair to my writing. When posted, it will be plenty long for most writers. For those with very large hands, it may be a little too slim. That will depend on individual preferences. As for the amount of ink it can hold, it's about what you would expect for such a tiny pen. However, it didn't run out so often that it became irritating. And besides, when are we really so far from a bottle of ink that we can't refill a pen on demand? If I plan to take it away from home, it is a very simple matter to carry some ink in a sample vial, if I really think I'll be running out. I've done some serious writing with it over the past few days, and it's taken several hours to run dry each time. I guess you can tell I'm a little biased and I absolutely love this pen. It was not an inexpensive pen; yet, I am so happy with it, I am considering buying the Pearl M320. That's not so unreasonable when you consider that my collection has lots of minis in it. The Ruby Red M320 is the most classically beautiful and adorable pen I own. I am finding every excuse to write with it. Actually, who needs an excuse, anyway?
