  1. Hello everyone! Some of you may recall that upon hearing that OMAS had ceased to exist, I decided to try to assemble a complete collection of my all-time favorite pen: the OMAS 360. Taking into account only color, size, materials and specially-branded editions - and thus making abstraction of trim colors, type (FP vs RB) and the presence of precious stones - I was able to inventory a total of 53 different versions of the OMAS 360. Of these, I currently own 51. The ones I like to use and carry with me most of the time (Titanium, Burkina, Snakewood and Ebony), I actually have in double and triple, respectively - just in case they were to get lost, damaged or stolen. A few others I have in both HT/Ag and YG trim versions (standard Blue/Black, Smoke, Lucens and Arco Brown), as I think that the pens look very different with different trims. Finally, I also have a few doubles, just because things happened that way (MoMa Red, Vision Amber, and Mezzo FIGC). Today I thought I would share with you a few quick pictures I took this morning as I was getting the pens organised... I hope you will enjoy seeing them. The complete collection, including a few doubles: http://a.lber.to/post/1_All.jpg The Oversize pens: http://a.lber.to/post/2_Oversize.jpg - Blue/Black, HT Trim - Black, YG Trim ("Tabellionis Stylus", the only true black 360 OMAS ever made, for the Italian Notary Association) The Cotton Resin pens: http://a.lber.to/post/3_CottonResin.jpg Top row: - Blue/Black, YG Trim - Blue/Black, HT Trim - Venician Blue, HT Trim - Grey, GT Trim - Burgundy, HT Trim ("Erasmus CLE") - Pearlescent Purple, RG Trim (Prototype which was never actually produced) - Red, HT Trim - Green, HT Trim ("75th Anniversary") - Colonial Brown, YG Trim (IMOHO, the ugliest 360 OMAS ever made...) - Yellow, HT Trim - White, HT Trim ("75th Anniversary") Bottom row: - Orange/Red, HT Trim ("TAG Heuer") - Yellow, HT Trim ("Bittner") - Black, HT 3-band Trim ("MoMa") - Red, HT 3-band Trim ("MoMa") - Orange, HT 3-band Trim ("75th Owner's Club") The Translucent pens: http://a.lber.to/post/4_Translucent.jpg - Smoke, Ru Trim ("Vintage") - Blue, RG Trim ("Vintage") - Smoke, YG Trim ("Vintage") - Brown, YG Trim ("ZENITH") - Turquoise, HT Trim ("Vintage") - Orange, HT Trim ("Soleterre") - Red, HT Trim ("Vintage") - Amber, YG Trim ("Vision Bronze") - Clear, HT Trim ("Vision") The Celluloid pens: http://a.lber.to/post/5_Celluloid.jpg - Burkina, Ag Trim - Arco Brown, YG Trim (Prototype pen with Greek band on cap, never produced) - Arco Brown, YG 3-band Trim - Lucens, Ag 3-band Trim - Lucens, YG 3-band Trim - Wild, HT 3-band Trim - Wild, HT Trim - Blue Royal, HT Trim - Pearl Grey, HT Trim Missing from photo: - Arco Brown, HT Trim The Metal and Wood pens: http://a.lber.to/post/6_Metal-Wood.jpg - Illumination, Silver - First Personal Computer, Aluminum ("FPC") - T2, Titanium - Snakewood, Ag Trim - Ebony, Ag Trim The Mezzo pens: http://a.lber.to/post/7_Mezzo.jpg - Blue/black, HT trim - Pearlescent Blue, HT trim - Blue, HT trim - Light Blue, HT trim ("FIGC") - Purple, HT trim - Pearlescent Liliac, HT trim - Liliac, HT trim - Red, HT trim ("Camera dei Deputati") - Red, HT trim - Orange, HT trim - Yellow, HT trim - Green, HT trim - White, HT trim Missing from photo: - Light Blue, HT Trim
  2. I have a Conway Stewart in excellent outside condition. I sent it to a pen repair person for a complete restoration, new sac, nib tuned and polished. I got it back and all it got was "grease" and does not fill or write. Charge was $17. (restoration quote was $40) Rather than pursue with this fellow and waste my time, are there any reputable pen restorers, repair persons in the USA, with an online website, that I can send my pen to for restoration and nib tuning and polish? Thanks for your help. jim
  3. I recently fixed a crack in the cap of a Parker Big Red, but the repair work has left a rather unsightly blemish on it. I've been an admirer of Japanese lacquer work and am thinking of using that pen to do a DIY faux Urushi pen similar to the methods used here with Edison's project: http://edisonpen.com...pearl-project-2 In no way do I want to use actual Urushi, owing to its toxicity and price. My questions: 1) What kind of lacquer should I use? Or would it be easier to use enamel paint, like the ones by Testor's? 2) If I use lacquer, what's an inexpensive way to color it? Would using wood stains work? 3) How much time to let each layer cure? 4) What's a good hardener or thickener to create the random-seeming patterns like in the Edison project? Or should I just let the lacquer thicken over time? 5) What grades of grit are best to get for this? Thanks in advance for your guidance.
  4. Hello Friends and Pen Enthusiasts, I plan to manufacture "Luxury HandMade Fountain Pens". I want your suggestions with reference to the following:- 1. Which Material would you suggest I should use? a.) ebonite b.) teak wood c.) resin d.) any other then please suggest. 2. Which NIB is the best in the world. ? a.) Schmidt b.) Bock c.) Jowo d.) any other then please suggest. 3. Which material nib is the best? a.) Steel b.) Gold c.) any other then please suggest. 4. Which is the best ink feeding system in the world? 5. What kind of material should be used for the Clip ? -- a.) Brass b.) any other then please suggest. I sincerely await your inputs or suggestions of any or all of the above points. Incase you believe that I may have missed something crucial or I need to be aware of then please feel free to let me know. In the event you want to suggest something which is different then my thought process mentioned above then too please feel free to share your thoughts. Though I am at an advanced level of conceptualisation, my intent is to create a "TRUE LUXURY PEN" which can be handed down from generations to generations and is extremely high on quality. All Suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Vikas

  6. So, what's the difference between a glass dip pen like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0719X5MHG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A2MB0N7F6KWVYB&psc=1 at 7.99$ and this one... https://www.gouletpens.com/products/rohrer-klingner-glass-dip-pen-blue?variant=11884769247275 at 30.00$ (plus about 8$ shipping)? They're both made of glass...they both have high ratings, they both seem to hold a good amount of ink, etc. So, I don't understand the difference whatsoever other than how they look. Especially considering I'm going to use these for only for making ink swatches and very VERY rarely otherwise. So, once again, could anyone tell me if there are any differences between the two other than looks? And also, even if there are differences, for what I plan to do - could you guys tell me if I should just buy the cheaper one? Thanks
  7. Does anyone else notice that the quality and nature of penmanship changes depending on the nib, pen, ink, and paper?? Here's a sample of my sloppy handwriting. Practice in progress. Rhodia Paper.
  8. Hi, Finally figured out how to refill an empty parker roller ball cartridge with fountain pen ink and have made a short 3 min video describing the process. It's a variation of the syringe vacuum method used to refill a pilot varsity pen. https://youtu.be/uMtBMEE7tas Let's see how many times the roller ball cartridge can be refilled and report back what caused it to finally fail. eg: ball dropped out. Enjoy! weemeng

  10. Hello again to all my FPN friends, One of the interesting things for me about this hobby is how easily and suddenly my preferences for a particular design or color can change. I never use yellow for anything other than highlighting and previously would have thought something like a yellow pen to be tasteless or just plain weird. Then I saw these: WingSung 601 LE (Photo courtesy of Frankunderwater) Penbbs 308 Mango Yellow After seeing these beauties, something in my head snapped and I knew I must have an audacious and bold yellow pen! Sadly, the WS is a limited edition with an inconvenient filling system and the Penbbs 308 won't work for me for other reasons. Now the hunt is on. What's your favorite yellow pen?
  11. So, a lot of people have received the Noodler's free pen, either a platinum preppie or a "Charlie" and claim to hate them. I've read this in numerous reviews and posts, yet I have been enjoying the Charlie pen and other free noodler's pens. So I wanted to ask. What are your thoughts on the Noodler's free pen or pens you have and do you use them? I have 1 Charlie and 1 Preppie and enjoy using both. So please, let your thoughts be known on this. To make it easy for others viewing your own thoughts and reviews try the following format. Do you use it or not? Like it? love it? Hate it? Which one(s) do you have? Why Do you feel as you do? What will you do with yours? so I'll start us off. Use them often Love to use them Preppie & Charlie They are smooth writing free pens with clear bodies and perfect for writing a letter or enjoying a sample ink. I'll Keep using them till they all apart and hope for another one when i re-purchase ink. (oddly enough bought 4.5oz bottles last month and now 1/4 is used up. plus a lot of paper.) Feel free to post pictures of your free noodlers pens and what their used for. If you have some you don't want or want to get rid of just send me a PM. I'm also curious to know if anyone knows of a way to buy the pens cheaply without the inkm perhaps from owners who don't want them?
  12. I have gotten a vintage Parker Vacumatic back from an unreliable repair person who was supposed to restore it. I'm not going to follow up on the repair guy, no sense in wasting time on it. The pen feed leaks and oozes ink uncontrollably. (what a mess) How do I fix this? Thanks, jim
  13. Hi, I'm Jens. I live near Kassel, Germany. Since I write a lot I recently decided to ditch the cheap pens I'm using and make one for myself. I have made a few but always ended up giving them away as presents. I wanted to make them out of a special wood, something that has a deeper meaning and not something I had lying around. I thought it would be cool to make one out of wood that came out of a U-Boat. Like a table top or radio enclosure, maybe. What I ended up stumbling upon is way cooler and has much deeper meaning than just a table top. It is the personal chest (footlocker in english?) that belonged to the Commander Heinrich Hasenschar of U 628, which was shot down in the Bay of Biscay on July 3rd, 1943. None of the 49 on board survived after a British B-24 Liberator dropped bombs after noticing the surfaced sub. I took a picture of the box yesterday and wanted to share it here. His name is still visible on top, as well as the last part of his name on the front tag. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k164/Flamewerks/Bomber_Ink_Uboat_Pen-1.jpg The box I bought from Hasenschar's cousin, who still lives in the next village from where Hasenschar came from. The region is called 'Waldecker Land' if you want to see more of it. He was born in the same village where I went to 1st grade. Since the footlocker has his name on it I have found it to be much more than just a box and it has gotten me to research quite a bit. I have always been vaguely interested in WW2 but now, after reading many personal stories, memoirs and letters, not just generalized accounts, it's much more emotional to think what went through everyones head as they went out to fight and I am starting to see things with different eyes. I'll be posting some more pics as I make the Pen. Thanks for looking! Jens

    Parker 75 Rainbow Fountain Pen

Hello everyone, My "Eid" gift to myself, a very special and rare pen which is the Parker 75 Rainbow: Best regards, Northstar
  15. Where or who are the best professional and reputable sources (vendors/dealers/etc) for vintage pens? Places where the prices are fair, the pens are restored professionally, and the nibs are tuned? Places where the pens do not smell of cologne, cigarette smoke, and mold. I've tried Ebay and it's "touch and go". Sometimes I get a great pen, most times I have to return it for refund. Any suggestions? Where have you bought from with great result and great return policy? Right now, I've been looking for a vintage Pelikan 400NN (old one) fine point , smooth writer, and a vintage Parker Senior Duofold (fine point) smooth writer. Both in excellent to mint condition. Thanks everyone for your help. jim
  16. Can anyone make a short list of Vintage Pens With Large Ink Capacities? I'm enjoying expanding my vintage pen collection. At present, a 1947 Parker Vacumatic, a 1941 and 1945 Skyline Eversharp. Thanks for the help. jim
  17. I was told by a reputable vintage pen shop that posting a cap on a vintage pen, such as long striated pattern Parker Vacumatics, Duofold, etc, makes the cap prone to splitting since it is made of celluloid. They said it is a good practice not to Post A Cap on a vintage pen when using unless there is a nylon other insert that is for that function and it is mounted deeper into the cap. However, a lot of pens don't sit very well in the hand when writing if there's no cap. i have a number of expensive vintage pens that I write with, a lot. What is the solution? Buy a sacrificial cap? *PS: I am not a collector. I own pens for a quality and uique writing experience. So, "writeability" it important to me. Thanks for the help. jim

    Milton Bradley Pen

I have the house to myself for a time and so I'm taking this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spread out and go through my collection of steel dip pens and update my inventory. (a Herculean task). I'm coming across pens I have forgotten all about. Here's one with a semi-interesting story I thought I might share. Most people know Milton Bradley as the famous board game manufacturer. That was their first main product and is still their main line of business. But over the years since their founding in 1860, they have produced other items at various times. One line of goods, which was near and dear to Milton himself, was a series of school supplies and educational aids geared toward the new Kindergarten movement in the late 1860's and onward. Milton became interested in the ideas behind early education and began making a whole line of educational supplies which he mostly gave away. This line continued from the 1870's up to about WWI, when it was reduced in scope. The five pens I have are Milton Bradley No. 2 School Pens. They're a little rusty and rough, but I've never seen any others. (cue five other people posting whole salesman's sample kits and advertising posters). The pens themselves are nothing to write home about, but the story and their rarity make them something interesting to me and I thought I'd share.
  21. Due to senior "forgetfulness", memory issues, I was thinking of making copies of letters before I send them out (snail mail correspondence) so that I remember what I've written, and help me write more thoughtfully. How many of you make copies of written letters to keep track of what was sent? Or do you just, "remember". Do you have a system for snail mail writing? Thanks everyone for your help.
  22. Update: I have about 6 pens to pass on. But now will gift them to my pen pals for free including shipping. I am going to thin out the number of fountain pens I have. A couple of TSWBI's, like new, some Pilot Metro's, also like new, maybe a few others. I'm willing to pass on to other members as long as they cover shipping. I'm in Arizona. Does anyone have advice on how I should do this? List the pens and nib size? Pictures? etc. thanks, jim UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Given the procedures and feeling like I need to "sell" a free gift, I'm going to give them as gifts to my pen pal correspondents instead, and pay for the $$$$ postage (not big dollars here). It is a better gesture for me and less hassle than a giveaway on the forum. Thanks again for everyone's help and advice. I've learned a lot. jim
  23. I have just received a beautiful restored Parker Vacumatic in the mail from Ebay. Got it for $83. It has a nasty strong perfume odor on the body and cap. I tried cleaning it with windex, light laundry soap and soft sponge, and alcohol wipes. Also tried "Pet Odor Remover" which normally takes any organic smell away. And, it still reeks so bad that my hand smells from holding it. Questions: 1. Can the smell be removed? . . . How? 2. Is the smell absorbed into the plastic? 3. Should I just try to return it? Thanks for your help. jim
  24. Hi, I'm new with fountain pens, I recently bought one, and I love it. I write with black ink, and when I start, it is very intense, what I like, but as I write, it becomes more gray, as if losing intensity, is it normal? Will it be a problem with the ink or the position? I use ink in cartridges, and the pen is not the cheapest or the most expensive, I would like to hear your recommendations, thanks.
  25. Hi, so, since most of us who love fountain pens can't really seem to stop buying pens, I thought it'd be cool to see how many pens you have in your pen collection. So, How many Fountain Pens do you have in your pen collection so far?
